Throughout the series we have seen Neville grow from the clumsy, shy little boy to excelling in the DA classes. It seemed that all he needed was a little extra help in order to get up to par. We see him not only stand up to but stand up for his friends. Eventually we learned that he is closely tied to the prophecy and it was by chance that Harry was chosen and not Neville. Has Neville been sheltered do to the lose of his parents?

Luna is a quirky girl that we meet late in the series, she appears to not know up from down. She demonstrates instant loyalty to the DA, and does well in the classes. Is there more than meets the eye to her?

Do Neville and/or Luna have more important roles than we have been lead to believe in the final book and final battle? What do you think?

I think all the characters have a place of importance in the books. Either by just filling up space or speaking, to the actual battle scenes.

However, I think Luna and Neville have a specialpart, as they fill all 3 of those items I listed. I think Luna and Neville will develop a bond, and that will play a key part in the seventh book.

Perhaps Neville and Luna will go on secret missions, and build up their relatioships from there....or they could possibly just be more targets to distract the Dark Lord.

Anything is possible....oh, btw....FIRST TO POST! WHOOO!

Well, they postively have had a great influence on us in the books so far. Expecially in OotP. As for me, I doubt any futher reference of the characters being important will be required in DH.

I believe that Luna and Neville will play at important roles in the final book. They were the only 2 of the DA that asked about DA meetings. They are very loyal to Harry and were the only other members to help him in the DOM battle. They were also thrust into the spotlight because of it (in OOTP). They must be so close to Harry for a reason. I believe they will play important roles in the book.

You can already know for sure thatLun will be important, beacsue the way JK just put her in the book out of nowhere tells you that, if Luna was a normal character than we would have know about her COS

I think that Neville will finally succeed in making his Gran proud of him during Book 7! He has steadily been gaining strength and confidence...and I think that somehow, the prophecy will link them here. We all know that Neville was the "other" possibility where the prophecy was concerned, although we know he was NOT the "chosen one". There is still that link and it will be a strong factor. Luna and Neville have the bond created out of both conceived and real friendlessness, which could also prove to be very strong in the end. Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny were their only "true" friends, although, for the most part, they have only been "satelites" to the four main characters. They have never truely been "insiders" with the exception of their DA ties and the fact they they are the only ones to respond to the summons of the enchanted coins. The six characters, despite these above facts, DO have a true and strong bond! Luna and Neville will definately play a role in the final battle!

I completly agree with you Hg fan, I knew Luna would be important especially by the fact that she was not introduced until OotP, that in itself, not to mention her other abilities and show of loyalty make me think that she will be important in the last book.

I agree with you Tatewin, although I do think that his grandma is already proud of him, she just has a hard time expressing it. But ever since OotP when we found out about the propchecy and how close Neville had been to being the 'Chosen One" I think that he will show some true power and abilities in the final book.

WORD! I hope so! Neville's gotta have some powers!

I'm sure I'll be hated forever for this; but I hope it ends up with Neville somehow, miraculously fulfilling the prophecy. I'd rather Neville give up his life and kill Voldemort to save Harry than for Harry to die.

Harry can live on (he can name his first kid Neville heh)...

I think they have a very important part in the final battle. The trio will not be able to fight Voldemort and the Death Eaters on their own, they will need all the help they can get. And i´m sure Neville and Luna won´t just sit around and do nothing while their is a war going on and their friends need them.

When I first read you post, my initial reaction was, "ARG what is wrong with you!? poor Neville!" but then after considering what you had said, I tend to agree, I hope both of them live, but if Neville fulfills the prophecy that would make his family so proud and give him a real sense of worth, not to mention force everyone to see he is not the klutsy little boy, but a brave man. So yes, I would have to agree with you, although I hope that he doesn't have to die

I think that Neville will end up killing Bellatrix lestrange, not Voldy. He has more reason to hate Bellatrix in some ways. So if Harry kills Voldy, Neville kills Bella, everyone's happy! except the dead people of course... *whistles* Neville will have to have an important role because he's so involved with the prophecy, but I'm not sure JK will let Neville kill Voldy... that's Harry's job... but Bella yes, Harry will probs let Neville do that.

I don't know how important Luna will be, but I agree on the Neville topic: I have the strongest feeling that he will kill bella to avenge his parents. I don't think JK would make Neville such a forgetful and clumsy person and then show us in OotP that he CAN fight and that he does has strength and courage he never knew about just to end it there. She must have something more for him to do!

exactly! Luna I don't know... I'm a Neville/Luna shipper so I hope they become a couple and Luna can help Neville get stronger in her own strange little way. Also she likes Ginny and might go along with her.
