How do you think Dumbledore's Army differed in the last book? Do you think Neville being in charge made a difference?

I think it would be the same as harry had it cos Neville, being apart of the original DA would know what to do. I think students would learn loads from Neville.

Well, they had to be more careful because of the Carrows. Plus it was really hard with keeping secrets because of the beatings and tortures and who knows, the Carrows probably used veritaserum or something.

Well, Neville, Ginny, and Luna were sort of in charge. Ginny is a wall. Living with older brothers, she has to be tough and motivate the others. She's a pretty strong fighter too.

Luna knows what she believes in and she sticks with that [in her own weird way, but still] So her confidence might rub off on others and she's just such a positive thinker that she can convince people to not give up.

Neville. This guy rocks, man! He finally finally finally broke out of that shy shell of his! He took the beatings but he never even held back and gave a second thought of continuing fighting in the DA. He would've made his parents super proud! True Longbottom. True Gryffindor. And let's get a quote from DD shall we?

Only a true Gryffindor can pull the sword out of the Sorting Hat.

Neville=True Gryffindor=PWNS.

[take that, Nagini!]

I could see it coming. Only because as each book came and went both Ginny and Neville became stronger characters. So when DH was
out I was not a bit surprised on how a big of a character Neville turned out to be and the courage he had. Everything he had been through beginning with his parents being tortured by Bellatrix. I am proud of Neville.

Adversity builds strength, and each character was already strong in their own right but they did not need to draw on that strength until then. It is only when you are facing true difficulty that you find out what you are really capable of. Until then, you can only suppose what you would do, and I think Neville himself, being humble, would never have thought of himself as truly courageous, but it was inside him to be all the time. Same with Ginny, she has always been a tough cookie. It did not show in Luna because she was so mellow and sweet, but it was there, and showed in OotP. As for the others, well, we don't know them quite as well, but anyone who has the guts to join such a group in the first place, knowing what the possible consequences could be (and probably imagining much worse as they are children and so see the end of the world in any punishment) would have to be someone of strong character and strength, someone who does not run or back down when courage is needed most. The challenge of the Carrows and living in those conditions would have only magnified that, and given them an opportunity to show what they were capable of. I don't think it changed them so much as it brought out the best in them. But I don't think it was a "study group" any longer, but more of a true army. Their numbers were greatly reduced but they would have been soldiers, not students, at that point.
I would also like to point out two things:
Neville led the DA alone for some time because Luna was kidnapped and Ginny was at home.
Neville was respected by the other students as a leader by the time Harry did arrive back at Hogwarts.
And, one last thing, if I am not misremembering, Neville sought out Voldemort when Harry was thought to be dead. Name me one other wizard or witch (besides Harry), grown or not, who ever had the nerve to do so. Ok, so Dumbledore, but hello, he's Dumbledore! I'd say Neville was in rare company, indeed.

Neville is a true Gryffie! He wasso brave in the battle..so much more mature. Who could believe he could change so incredibly. *sighs* I love him!
So, I think he'd do a good job being in charge of the DA

Oh yeah definitely! Nevil wasn't so Gryffindor-y in the first books. But in the last books he got the courage that a true Gryffindor has. And in the last book Nevile was the true definition of a Gryffindor. And I think that there was nobody better to run the DA the Nevile. And in the Chapter where Nevile kills the snake i was truly impressed. I couldn't believe he did that. He did very good job being in charge of the DA. And it was a very hard job, because Hogwarts was under the eyes of the Ministry and there were deatheaters all over the school.
