I've noticed that as the movies continued, more and more scenes from the books don't make it to the big screen. I find this most disturbing. Granted, most directors and producers don't want a 6 hour Harry Potter film. But how can you cut out S.P.E.W.? What about the explanation about the Marauders? And what about the fact that the film made it seem like Harry was in Diagon Alley for a day, instead of a week? I can't imagine what the reaction might be if they cut out almost all of the fighting in the Ministry of Magic, can you? Loved the ficlett! That is interesting that Dan wants Harry to die in the next book, usually an actor portraying a character wants them to live, however I suppose it doesn't matter to much to him, he is bassically gauranteed through all of the movies, and the since the 7th is the last, he would be out of the project anyway  | |

It took me a while to think up a topic to write about, but I finally chose the Triange of Love: Harry, Hermione, and Ron. Yes, the Bulgarian that stole Hermione's heart. I do have a feeling that he will return in Book Seven...but maybe I can't say for sure...
Well, Hermione has a huge desicion to make. Ron...Harry...or Viktor? Who will she pick? Will she pick at all? Well, I can't tell you, because I'm not JKR.

The picture shows only 15 DA members, yet the books include 29 members. Not only are half of the members missing, but there are some that are a bit...out of place. "Well all of the members aren't in it!" said DAFC member Ebony Middleton. True, they are not all there. But why would the picture only include half of the DA? Is this a hint to tell us that not all book DA members will become movie DA members?
For some though, the fact that all members are not there is not anything to worry about. Another thing one may have noticed while constantly scanning the picture is...the hair! Where did it all go? The hair went from about neck length for boys and shoulder length or longer for girls to about 2 inches. Okay, so not inches, but still, why the cutting? If director David Yates is trying to make the movies continue to be realistic, I don't think it is working. When was the last time you heard or saw 15 friends, some closer to each other than others, all cut their hair the same length over the summer. One thing is for sure, it certainly is not canon. I don't know how Miss Rowling feels on this situation (unavailable for comment), but is certainly a hot topic that could continue until midnight, July 13, 2007.
Whether you think, "They're brilliant!!!!" as DAFC member miss weasley does, or whether you believe that, "They're all right, they're nothing to go psycho about, but not bad," as LovelyLunaLovegood does, one thing is for sure: We're all gonna keep looking over that picture we got stashed somewhere in our hard drive over and over again. At least, some of us will.

You might ask why Zacharias Smith, seemingly a minor character, has anything to do with the major plot twists in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, where he is only mentioned briefly. However, if you think back to one of the memories Harry ‘sees’ in the Pensieve it all becomes quite clear. Remember the memory that was gotten from Hokey the house-elf (Pages 433-438, book 6)? If you think back hard (or go back and check the page), you’ll discover that her master goes by the name Hepzibah Smith (Note her last name is the same as Zacharias’s).
Before we get to the importance of all this, let me attempt (with limited evidence) to prove that Zacharias and Hepzibah are actually related. Firstly, there is the last name connection. If that is not enough, there is the fact that Zacharias is in Hufflepuff (For proof, see the quote in paragraph one). Now, we do not know if Hepzibah was in Hufflepuff, but we can assume so because she has claimed to be distantly descended from Helga Hufflepuff (Page 436, book 6). In fact, it is that very dissidence that brings us to why the connection between Zacharias and Hepzibah is so important.
If Zacharias and Hepzibah are indeed related it makes sense for Zacharias to have inherited some of her things when she died. In fact, Hepzibah even says; “…Oh, if my family knew I was showing you… They can’t wait to get their hands on this!” (Page 436, book 6). This seems to imply that they will inherit it when she dies. On the same page as this quote was found, Hepzibah reveals exactly what the ‘this’ she was talking about is; a cup of Helga Hufflepuff’s. We later find out that Voldemort steals it.
This brings us to our last question; then why does the connection between the two Smith’s matter? Perhaps the Smith family got the cup (and possibly the Slytherin locket, which was also stolen) back later, not knowing there was a horcrux inside of it. If this is indeed true, then Harry may require Zacharias’s help to find all of the remaining horcruxes. And even if the Smith’s have never recovered the cup, it makes you wonder, doesn’t it… Is there more to the Smith family than J.K. Rowling’s letting on? | |
