Alexandra Athena Carlton

Past the front desk and down a long hallway, is the office of the current Minister of Magic, Miss Alexandra A. Carlton. You must check in with either the Senior or Junior Undersecretary before proceeding to visit with the Minister. For those of you who've been here before, you should be quite familiar with the area. However, there is one very noticeable difference. The gold-lettered plaque which once indicated the office of Miss Reagan Taylor (now-former Minister of Magic) has been removed. In its place, a new plaque now reads:

Minister of Magic
Once inside the office, you'll find that it's typical of what a person would expect any office to look like. The Minister sits at a large, wooden desk centered along the back wall. A wizarding portrait of the Carlton family of five decorates the wall just behind the desk. If you watch the portrait long enough, a Carlton or two just might grow bored of their pose and walk away. Don't worry, though, they'll be back later, of course!
Allie is a pureblood witch who was born and raised in Sevenoaks, Kent, England. Despite her birthplace and the fact that she attended Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, much of her life, so far, has revolved around living in the United States of America, where she attended a university and worked to further her Ministry of Magic-oriented career. Little odds and ends throughout the office, such as a miniature model of the Statue of Liberty and a framed portrait of Times Square, reflect Allie's time away from her home country of Great Britain.
A bookcase lining the entire left wall of the office houses Allie's career-oriented literature, diplomas from Hogwarts and university, and a collection of framed pictures of family and friends. Don't let the professional appearance of the office fool you into thinking Allie is all about work and no play, though. In between pieces of paperwork and scheduled meetings, the Minister enjoys sitting back, relaxing, and thumbing through the latest edition of Witch Weekly. It's typical of Allie to have a couple of issues squeezed in amongst the literature, diplomas, and pictures situated on the bookcase.
Once you’re invited in, please help yourself to a seat. Allie is quite happy to see you!
"Allie, my dear, I brought you a coffee." Martel knocked gently on the door then stepped right into the Minister's office, a coffee for himself and one for her carefully held in one hand. He placed both mugs on the desk and took a seat opposite her.

Allie Carlton glanced down at the small piece of parchment she'd received only seconds earlier. It was a letter from her sister, Lexi, letting Allie know that she'd be seeing her very soon. Allie knew the school term was quickly coming to an end, so it wasn't unlikely that her sister would be making plans to head home.
Just then, the door opened, bringing it with it the smell of fresh coffee. Glancing up, Allie was met with Martel D'Isigny, who had sure enough brought her a steaming cup of coffee. "Oh, why thank you. This is just what I needed," she said, giving him a small smile before taking a sip of the drink.
As soon as was done, she placed her cup on the desk, and then turned her attention to Martel. She watched expectantly as she waited to hear what he had to say.
Martel watched her drink the coffee with an intense sort of interest and then relaxed once she sipped it.
"I have had a request from a certain magazine wishing to feature you on their cover. I believe they are doing a feature on 'Inspirational Witches of Britain' and, after all, who else is more inspirational than the Minister of Magic?" Martel began the order of business. He glanced around and tapped a copy of a nearby copy of Witch Weekly. "And I see you are already familiar with the magazine in question." He smiled quietly and sipped his own coffee.
"And I spoke with that individual we talked about earlier -as you requested- the man is quite graciously willing to offer his aid and assistance to you where ever you require it, though he is very busy, and very important, he has time for you, Minister Carlton." Martel's voice was brimming with respect, vibrating richly and the rhythm of his speech was almost hypnotising.
Wings flapping erratically, the large eagle owl approached the office, ignoring pretty much everything else as he wobbled back and forth aimlessly. It hadn't been a far trip, so he hadn't had a chance to look for mice or anything on the way... he'd do that on the way back, he supposed.
Into the Minister's office he went, large eyes moving back and forth between those who were inside. With a soft hoot, he landed on the back of one of the chairs, and held out his leg, waiting for either party to move to take the letter.

"Which...," she started to ask, but Martel had beaten her to that. Her head turned from Martel to a nearby copy of Witch Weekly, and then she turned back to him with a rather shocked expression. "Witch..."Which and witch seemed to be the only two words that she could form at the moment, for some reason. She supposed shock had a lot to do with that, though.
She didn't have much time to think any further about being on the cover of Witch Weekly, though, as Martel had already changed topics and moved on to something else. "Oh, yes...very busy and very important. Right," she remarked. "...and will this man be by to join uhh---..." The word us was cut short when the sudden presence of an Eagle Owl distracted the Minister from the previous discussion.

Martel just smiled kindly, eyes fixed on the Minister as she grasped what he'd been talking about, and then an owl arrived and he watched her read it, expression growing more intent. When she passed him the letter he relaxed and skimmed over it.
"Ah yes. The Daily Prophet I believe? My my, folk are curious are they not?" He asked, almost rhetorically. "You must of course, accept the interview offer. We shall invite her for dinner, make her feel welcome. Do you not agree, Minister Carlton? She sounds like a dear and it is no secret why I'm here to help you after all."
No secret at all. Not at all.
He reached out and touched the Minister's shoulder, as if reaffirming a connection.
"And as for our friend, yes he shall, in due time. When you most need him. But I suppose we need to get such necessities as this, this publicity, out of the way first. We're an open book, are we not, Minister Carlton? We have no secrets from our public. We work in their best interest after all." He continued smoothly, hypnotically.

With a hint of a smile on her face, Allie nodded in reply to Martel's question. "I was just thinking that I've seen her name in several editions of The Daily Prophet. I---...," she replied, starting to say something else but stopping before much of the thought could be said aloud. "Right. I think I will accept the offer. Dinner sounds like a nice idea, as well." She turned toward Martel, gave him a small smile and a brief nod, and then returned to her seat behind her desk.
She grew quiet as she listened to Martel's advice. She supposed it did seem like a good idea to address the requests for interviews first. She'd never been interviewed before in her life, and now she was being asked for two--Witch Weekly and The Daily Prophet. As Minister, though, she knew she'd need to get used to this sort of that. Better sooner that later, too. "Alright, we'll address the requests for interviews first, and then we'll look further into the matter concerning our very busy and important friend."

She narrowed her eyes at him. People who didn't eat cookies were just plain uncivilized and were not to be trusted. She sat down next to Rex and nodded. She'd speak up when she was needed and she'd keep an eye on that D'Isigny character... Oh yeah, she was the muscle...

"Forgive my interruption." He spoke and gave a small polite bow,"Have the wards failed in any other pitches?" The answer was yes, he knew. It was just a matter of time before it was clear where the other failed wards were. Quidditch pitches weren't just in Europe after all.

Allie's eyes flickered from Rex to Gina. It seemed the Magical Cooperation head didn't know the answer to the question either. At least, she had turned to Rex as if she, too, were waiting to hear further information. At the sound of Martel's voice, Allie diverted her attention to her advisor, who seemed unbothered about the news.

He posed an interesting question. It got Allie to wondering whether the ward failing was a one time thing, or if this was something that was becoming a common target in many different places. Curious to hear the answer, Allie turned back to Rex.

However, I'm not one to risk exposure of one of our most treasured sports and would like to suspend all games in the United Kingdom until each pitch has been thoroughly inspected and the wards tested."
Rex glanced at Gina and then looked straight at Allie.
"As the Minister of Magic, this is your call - do you want all Quidditch events cancelled until I can send a team out to inspect each stadium or are you willing to risk exposure to Muggles?"

Gina had heard exactly what Rex had. "Surely you aren't serious...?" Her eyes glanced over at the non-cookie-eating-wizard... What did he think about this. She was the International Magical Cooperation Department head... she needed to say something... "I suggest we hold a meeting with the Russian Officials and see what went wrong. Not to lay blame, but to fix things so they won't happen in the future."

Allie simply narrowed her eyes in confusion as both department heads standing before her seemed to have thought she suggested nothing be done about the incident. She thought back to the last thing she'd said and tried to recall if she'd even answered their question at all. No, no she hadn't. So where had the confusion come in?
Smiling politely, she shook her head and tried to clarify her response. "I do apologize for the confusion, but I haven't actually made a decision one way or the other yet," she started. "I was simply asking what the aftereffects of the inspections would be. How many games would be affected and is there an idea as to how long the inspections would take?"
