She felt as if he were drawing her in. A part of her desparately wanted to leg it out of the room but she was well aware of the repercussions an action like that would have. Settling into the seat beside him, her eyes drifted toward the ceiling which showed a surprisingly clear night sky. Stars sparkled without a cloud in sight to block them. Still, not even the image of this could make her forget everything she was carrying. "What do you do?" she mused, carefully, her eyes still upward, "When you don't know what to do?"

Dumbledore continued to smile as Marcella joined him and began the conversation. It was a start. "I take a bath," he replied, simply.

occ: tee hee... That just seemed like such a Dumbledore thing to say. o_P He reminds me of Ty and her shower ideas. lol

At his words her eyes became distracted and she scanned his face. She should've known she'd only get something cryptic out of him. It wasn't like Dumbledore to give straight forward advice. A frown appearing, she replied, "I'm sorry Dumbledore, but I fail to see the humour in any of this. Although, I am glad you can." she sniped, the harsh words falling off her tongue before she could stop them.

"I'm afraid you misunderstood me, Marcella. I was merely giving you an answer to your inquiry. When I don't know what to do, I take a bath. I find that answers come more quickly to a relaxed mind," he replied, more seriously.

She was about to be short with him once more when something stopped her from speaking. She'd tried just about everything else; was it really worth dismissing the idea so quickly? However, the idea of bathing in her cramped quarters wasn't eactly the epitome of relaxation. Her mind drifted to the Prefect's bathrooms which she had once used, they were wonderful. But, alas, they were untouchable what with the students being back. The last thing she wanted was to be interupted by hormone-crazed 16-year-old boy. Resigned to her conclusion, she sighed, "Somehow I doubt that would work."

Harry offered half a smile to Tonks. He wasn't sure how he felt, considering she and Tonks had run off and left him to drag his drunken self back to Hogwarts. It wasn't that he wanted to be guarded, but he could use a friend, and that wasn't exactly how friends behaved.

"I'll call you Professor when you call me Mister... sir," Harry smiled through his mouthful of bread.

"There is a special bath for the professors' use," he said, as if reading her mind. "And I happen to know that it has recently been stocked with a variety of potions to aid in easing the mind and allowing one to rest and relax.

She smiled. It was only a small one but she did it all the same. It seemed he'd read her mind which didn't surprise her. Even when she was guarding her thoughts he could always see what she was thinking so she guessed now that her guard was down completely, she'd probably be more obvious than ever, at least to him. Had it been anyone else sat next to her, that notion would've unnerved her. But with Dumbledore, it was sort of comforting.

At his last few words, she snorted. "I think I'll be fine without those concoctions. I'd rather not touch anything he's created. He brings disaster to whatever he touches, especially me."

Snape began tiring of his visit to the Hospital Wing the moment Tonks came in. He smirked as she fell, "Typical. I would have thought you'd outgrown those tendencies by now."

Completely ignoring Black's presence, he turned back to Potter. "And neither is it polite to speak with your mouth full," he said, ignoring his comment. "I believe you have all the company you need, good night."

He turned to exit the wing.

Dumbledore looked over at her, severely. "Attitude like that will get you nowhere, Marcella. If you are going to lay blame anywhere, it should be with me as it was I who chose Severus for the task of protecting you."

"It wasn't his protection that ruined everything. If he'd done his job properly what happened ... it wouldn't have .... and then I'd have never found out .... " She sighed, frustrated. "Forget it." she mumbled, pathetically, "You wouldn't understand. I don't expect you to understand."

"Because I don't want to!" she snapped, before she could stop herself. Anger began coursing through her veins; she gripped onto the table with her nails, her eyes fixed on the clean wooden surface before her. Why did he have to be so irritating. "You know exactly what I mean. Why do you want to torture me by trying to make me go through it again? Haven't I been through enough?"

"Sometimes it eases our pain to talk about it, Marcella. I was inviting you to confide in me. You do not need to shout or feel obligated to say anything," he gently explained.

"That's just it though, I can't talk to you. No offence Dumbledore, but you're not normal. I shout at you and all I get back is calm. It's irritating." she finished, her face flushed a deep red, her hands shaking.

His eyes twinkled with laughter. "I suppose I am a bit odd and you aren't the first to note it," he smiled. "Is there someone you can talk to? Tonks, perhaps?"

Marcella snorted and looked at him for the first time since she'd started raising her voice at him. "You can't be serious. She wouldn't understand and besides, she's too busy with that traitor, Sunny. I don't feel the need to talk to anyone. I just want to be alone," she asserted, although she didn't sound sure whether she believed what she said in her last statement.

"Well then, I suppose I'll head up to my office and leave you to it," Dumbledore replied, still smiling, as he pushed his chair back and stood up.

Leave her to what? She desparately felt like throwing something at him but the house elves had already been and gone and nothing was left on the tables. And she didn't dare pull out her wand on Albus Dumbledore. Frustrated, she settled for kicking his chair instead, hard. It did give her some satisfaction however the pain soon kicked in and she squirmed as she looked down at her leg to see a cut with a bruise forming around it. Tears, motivated by the sight of blood more than the stinging sensation rising through her body, began to creepto the front of her eyes. Wiping them away irritably, she got up and pushed her chair back beneath the table. Waiting until Dumbledore had left, she began limping down the aisles and entered the hallway, feeling none the better for their encounter. Leaning against a wall on the left she stood with her head against the stone, her eyes closed, trying to compose herself. The last thing she needed was to walk into a student looking as if she'd just had a run-in with a teacher.

He was strolling down the corridor on his way back up to his tower when he noticed a figure leaning against the wall outside the Great Hall. Thinking it was a student out of bounds, he walked up to them. "Students should be in their Common..." Professor Flitwick began but, stopped when he recognized who it was. "Oh, Miss Riddle. Excuse me, I didn't see that it was you."

She opened her eyes at the sound of a voice and initially saw nobody (she was looking for someone at her eye level). After several moments of confusion she looked down, seeing Professor Flitwick gazing up at her. "Hi Professor .... I mean Sir. I mean ... " she stumbled on her words, not quite sure what to call him. Pulling the bottom of her robe discreetly over the cut on the bottom of her leg, she hesistated and then quickly added, suddenly remembering, "Sir, where are the staff bathrooms? Dumbledore suggested I use them only he conveniently left without telling me where they were."

"Filius is fine, my dear," he laughed at her hesitation in addressing him. "The staff bathroom isn't too far, I can show you and give you the password, if you'd like."

Snape exitted the Hospital Wing and was making his way back to the dungeons when he spotted Marcella come out of the Great Hall. He stood, lurking in the shadows, watching her as she leaned against the wall and then, began to speak with Flitwick.

"I'm sure I'll be alright on my own, thanks," she added, not wanting to appear rude but at the same time preferring not to have to walk around clutching her robe. She didn't fancy having to explain why she was hurt to a Professor that she suspected knew little about her past. "Just point me in the right direction and give me the password. I'll be fine, honest. I know the school well enough not to get lost."

"Ah, but you see, there's a trick to it. It would be better for me to show you," Professor Flitwick insisted. "I promise I'll leave you alone once I've shown you how to enter," he winked.

She had little choice but to take his word for it. She was already verging on rude when she'd first opened her mouth and saying anything more in the form of a refusal would definitely be considered disrespectful. However his wink made her feel uncomfortable and so she hung back a little as she followed him, wondering how hard it could be to open a bathroom door.
