"I hadn't asked him for anything, not one single thing. All I had said was that it I was finding things hard and that I wasn't looking forward to arriving at Hogwarts, and he gives me a stinking reply like that!" she spat, almost as though she were imagining her God-Father's face in front of her. "He wants my friends to leave earlier than scheduled." she mumbled, snarling as an afternote.

That was not what Snape had expected. But, why was she so upset? She seemed to be getting along fine with out her friends at the moment. What did she care that they left sooner rather than later. He was about to respond when he thought better of it and decided to ask her about her misgivings about coming to Hogwarts, instead. "Why aren't you looking forward to arriving at Hogwarts?"

Taken aback, she sighed, "I'm hardly about to receive a warm reception. It took me years, years to make those 3 friends and I'll probably never have friends like them again. It's just too hard, having to start again, all over again. All my life I've been shuffled about, according to what other's think should be done with me. I'm never asked what I want."

"You can even begin to understan dyour importance, can you? If you hadn't been shuffled about, you'd be dead by now," Snape sneered. Children. Why did they always think that adults were out to make them miserable?

"You think I dont already know that?" she asked,her fiery temper rising. "Maybe it'd be better if I were dead. Death has got to be better than living a life of unwantedness and hatred!"

"You aren't unwanted," Snape said. "You may be hated by those who are ignorant. But, by wishing for death you are only playing into their hands. It is weakness to desire death."

"But once you're dead, nothing more can hurt you, you're at rest." Shuffling a little, she mumbled, "Besides, who says I'm not unwanted? If anything, I'm only wanted for what I am and not who I am. No-one knows the real me."

What could he say to that? Snape was completely baffled by this girl. Then, he remembered Kristi saying something very similar to him, 'I'm always hiding out in the shadows where I can observe and not be noticed. It's begining to get on my nerves that no one sees me. No one knows the real me.' What was it that he said to her? It seemed to have cheered her up, but he couldn't remember what it was.

Snape seemed to be drifting into his own world so she took the initiative and allowed Minelli back outside, shutting the window after her. Casually tossing the envelope into the flames too, she sat back down, watching as that too disintigrated.

He finally remembered what it was that he had said to Kristi and decided to see if it would work with Marcella. Snape wasn't sure since Marcella seemed so much different from his daughter, but... "We all have our parts to play," he said, sitting down in a chair adjacent to Marcella.

"So what's yours?" she asked, casually, "You seem important, you must be if you have to pop off at random times and Dumbledore obviously gave you this role for a reason."

"I'm not at liberty to discuss that," Snape said, staring off into the distance. He wondered what it was she thought he was doing when he had to leave. Snape knew taking care of Marcella would be risky. The Dark Lord knew he wouldn't have to dodge Dumbledore while school was in recess, so he expected Snape to come to all summonses. Then. he thought of another good reason why Dumbledore would have given him this task. "I am Head of Slytherin House."

Not surprised by his response, she said nothing and sat, writing in a book, noting his every move. Something about the way he was, his attitude, his complete lack of understanding of how he affected people, fascinated her.

Snape watched as she wrote in a book. He got up and took his book on discipline off the shelf and began to read again.

Scribbling with her quill, madly, she watched as he took down another boring textbook. Didn't this man do anything for fun? Did he even know the meaning of the word? Setling for a 'no', she sighed and finished scribbling down her ingredients.

It was obvious by her thoughts that the girl was bored. Snape didn't want to have to entertain her, but he had a feeling that keeping her entertained would make his job easier. So, feining interested he asked, "What is that you're writing?"

Trying to stiffle her giggle, at his obvious intentional feined interest, she muttered, "A potion I've been working on."

Potion was the magic word and Snape no longer needed to fein interest. "Really? What potion is that?"

"Just something random I came up with. It's nothing serious or complicated, probably considered more cosmetic than anything else. I just find it easy to do these things, produce my own potions. It gives me something to put my energy into."

"I have my stores and work area set up in the basement, if you'd like to use them," he said, thinking that Marcella should have something to keep herself busy.

Her eyes enthused widely and she couldn't help but grin. "Really?! I could use them?" She had guessed that he might possibly have a private working area, but never dreamed that he'd actually lend her it.

She smiled as he told her she could use his facilities. "Yes, but there are some rules you will have to abide by," he said, not quite sneering anymore.

Nodding her head in obvious understanding, she scooped her books up into her arms, slid her wand behind her ear and eagerly asked, "Can you show me now?!"

Snape was surprised by her excitement, but it pleased him that she had taken an interest in something other than trying to baffle him. He rose and headed for the door, "Of course."

Following him eagerly, she walked closely behind him. "So how have you been into potions then?" she asked, interestedly, "Will you be teaching me at Hogwarts?"
