Snape muttered a password under his breath and the door to the cottage swung open. He allowed the students to enter first then, casting a final glance around outside, he backed into the cottage and shut the door, locking it with a spell.

Snape turned to see the students shivering and looking around. He wasn't sure what to do now that they had arrived; he'd never had the occassion to play host before. So, he settled for lighting the fire, ignoring his drenched status.

Throwing her hood back over her head, she hastily scurried through the door way and removed her robe as soon as the fire had been lit. Not knowing what to do or if she needed to say anything, she glanced around at the others, awkwardly, finally resting on staring at Snape, who was currently drenched, head to foot, like the rest of them. Taking in his appearance, under the light of the new born flames, she saw that he wasn't as foul appearing as she once thought.

However the miserable sneer was still upon his face and he stood in a most unflattering way.

Casting a glance at her shivering friends and knowing she was also dripping a large puddle onto the floor, Alyssa looked expectantly at Snape. He moved deftly and quickly, but seemed to be making no efforts to make them all dry and comfortable.

Alyssa dropped her trunk heavily and shook her hair out like a dog. The long red strands released water in all directions, creating an even bigger mess.

Feeling an interuption were necessary to the awkward silence, she coughed a little and rocked on her feet, mumbling, "Maybe some instruction might help..."

Snape looked up after lighting the fire to see the students staring at him, expectantly. He walked over to a door and opened it, "This is the kitchen."

He walked down the hallway, not waiting to see if the followed, "This is the wash room."

Gesturing toward a large door with a snake upon the front and glancing back, he realized the children had lagged behind, "Come on, then."

Rolling her eyes, she trailed ahead of the others, following the man through the door with the serpent.

"Are we all sharing the same bathroom then?" she asked, only half-interested.

Alyssa followed Marcella and Snape, with Cossette and Darrin. The house was small but comfortable. She wondered how a man who was used to living alone would deal with having four teenagers living with him. She shrugged the question off... that was his problem. Maybe it would drive him crazy and they could all go back to Durmstrang. Except... Marcella couldn't go back to Durmstrang.

Snape sneered at Marcella. "This is the study, you may congregate here if you wish," he said. "The bedrooms are further down the hall. You three girls will have to share one room; I will conjure up the extra beds for you. And the boy can use the other. My quarters are just across the hall, here," he pointed at the door opposite that of the study.

And with that, he left the students and entered his room.

"Well that was informative.." she sighed, jumping up on one of the work surfaces in the kitchen and swinging her legs carelessly.

She shook her head in disbelief. He had told them nothing, nothing of why they were there or what they were meant to do.

He had just left them to their own devices, in a house they didn't know in an area in which they had never seen before. Kicking the cupboards, she snarled, frustratedly,

"You'd think my God-Father would hire someone decent to look after me!" as if she were shouting it at him, as if he could hear her.

"I hate him," Alyssa said sourly. "I can't even remember his name, but I'm fairly certain I hate him." She paced the kitchen, slamming cabinets and generally trying to make as much noise as possible.

"And... I'm hungry. Are you?"

Grinning at her purposeful noise-making, she nodded her head eagerly, as she heard her own stomach grumble. "That's another thing, does he really expect us to cook for ourselves? He is so annoying. He doesn't seem to give a toss for the fact that I could walk out of here any minute and refuse to go and he'd be stuffed."

There were pots and pans in the cabinet next to the sink. Alyssa stared at them a bit helplessly for a moment.

"And why don't they teach useful classes at Durmstrang anyway? I'm never going to need to read tea leaves and pretend I'm a total crackpot, but I don't know anything about how to cook."

Fortunately, Cossette had taken Muggle Studies and took over the cooking.

Snape pulled off his soaked robe. Luckily, the rain hadn't penetrated through the robe into his clothes. He hung the robe up and changed into a dry pair of shoes before re-emerging from his room. He walked into the kitchen to find the girls looking through his kitchen cabinets. "If you would be patient for a moment, I will get you something to eat," he sneered, walking over to Cosstte and taking the pan out of her hand.

Folding her arms, still sat on the work top, she glared down at him as he cooked. Scanning her eyes over his hands, she noticed the many lines upon them, scattered all over his palms, as though they were their own story. Sighing, she said, "You could try and be a bit nicer to us. I know they wont be staying long, but we're going to be here, together, for 3 months and neither of us are going to survive if you insist on being difficult."

"How should we know that?" Alyssa crabbed under her breath. The man had just walked out, giving no indication he was going to come back and see to their needs. Her stomach growled. She was hungry and tired from the trip, not to mention dirty and wet. Definitely not Alyssa at her best.

Snape looked up from his cooking and stared into her eyes. "I am not being difficult. It was my job to bring you here and keep you safe. No one said anything about coddling you. I was under the impression that you were mature and capable of handling yourself," he said as he flicked his wand and the food appeared on the kitchen table.

"I am." she replied, shortly, coughing back tears as she spoke. She was strong and independant, but that didn't mean compassion would be ignored.

Frowning, she sat at the table, unable to lift a fork or knife. Suddenyl, her appetite had completely vanished and she felt nothing but misery.

Snape sat at the end of the table, quietly ignoring everything around him. His hair was still wet and a few drops of moisture fell into his soup. He absentmindedly pulled his hair behind his ears and continued eating in silence.

Arising dramatically from her seat, she ran into the other room and collapsed upon the sofa, her head in her hands. Silently, she cried, her shoulders shaking as she did so. So much pressure had fallen upon her shoulders and she knew not why. She was expected to live in this drudgery, with this man for three months and then move to a completely different country, all because of some reason she knew not. And he wasn't even grateful for her being here. Sobbing her heart out, she laid upon the sofa, her head pushed into the cushions.

Snape looked up as Marcella fled from the table. This was exactly what he had been afraid of. He tried to warn Dumbledore, but no, the man wouldn't see reason. This girl was unstable and likely to break under the strain of these conditions. She was no better than Potter.

Hearing a somewhat familiar sneer inside her head, she shook the thoughts from her head, crying harder. So what if she was unstable? She'd like to him be stable in the situation she was in. Regretting ever coming away with him, she tore at her face, attempting to rip away her tears with her anger.

No one moved as Marcella left the room. Alyssa kept Darrin from moving and fixed Snape with a glare. Her glare always used to make the younger kids at the orphange shake, so she knew it was somewhat affective.

"You're the adult here. You better take care of it," she said in mock sweetness. When he looked at her impassively, she added, "We won't be here forever. I suggest you figure Marcella out now while we can help."

Snape was not one to be bossed around by mere students, but the girl had a point. If he didn't take care of this, Marcella might just run away with her friends, leaving him to explain to Dumbledore why she disappeared. He reluctantly got up and walked to the study.

He found Marcella on the sofa, in tears. Snape didn't know what to say now that he was here. He stood just inside the door, arms at his sides, trying to make his face look comforting, and knew he was not succeeding. Finally, he settled for sitting beside her. "I know it's difficult. But, believe me when I tell you that I have your best interest at heart."

She scoffed in response and refused to look up at him. She knew he could not be much comfort to her and that he couldn't possibly comprehend her situation and the impact it was having upon her heart. She just sighed and thought miserably, of how she wished she'd never bothere coming in the first place.

Doing all that he could do, Snape got up. He didn't know what else to say and she obviously didn't want to hear anything he could come up with anyway. It was probably better to let her sulk. Perhaps she just needed time to adjust. He knew he certainly did. One teenage girl was enough to deal with- now he had three and a boy on top of that.

Snape walked slowly out the door, to head back to the kitchen where his supper was getting cold.
