Bryce's glance wandered as Beth spoke about the Gryffs. He stared at them as they spoke and looked over at Serenity. "To be perfectly honest, I thought she'd be sorted over there, too. She spent nearly the entire ride with nothing but Gryffs," he said, his back still facing Beth as he looked. Turning back to Beth, he continued, "But, you're probably right. As if we would corrupt anyone. Even if we were a bunch of corrupters, how do they think they'd be able to protect her from it. After all, she was sorted into our house, meaning she's either already been corrupted or has the potential to become so."

He laughed and raised his glass of pumpkin juice. "To Slytherins and their corruptive, sinful, ways," he joked, clinking glasses with Beth before drinking down his juice and digging into the food as if he hadn't eaten in weeks.

'The Potter crew, use their intelligence like that?,' she responded incredulous, careful to lower her voice. 'That's asking a bit much. They so prefer to jump to their own conclusions about us evil Slytherins.' She rolled her eyes, lifting her glass to Bryce's toast and laughing with him. 'Wow, take it easy Brycey boy. You give yourself heartburn or one of those things.' She put her head to one side, thinking. 'Hmm, well, I can't remember. It was something about eating fast that muggles get and don't have potions for.' She shrugged, taking another sip of her drink and settling in to watching the Gryffindor's, picking the occasional piece of chicken from her plate. 'My aunt is always talking about it,' she mused distractedly.

"Why... Is... Your aunt... always talking about... muggle ailments?" Bryce spoke in between bites then, he wiped his mouth and downed another glass of pumpkin juice before speaking again. "And I'm not going to get sick if that's what all your blabbering is about."

'Huh, what??' Beth pulled her attention back to Bryce. 'Oh, she's a healer. Has a fascination about how muggle healers cope. Is quite barbaric what they do really. Calls them "doctors" I think.' She shrugged, returning her attention to the Gryffindors. 'It can be difficult to shut her uo on the subject to be honest.'

Orion waited several long moments before slipping in after Potter. Fortunately, the Slytherin table was close by, and he slid into a seat at the end of the table. Whatever he missed wasn't worth noting, other than the fact that there was one new redhead added to Slytherin house. Orion filled his plate and began to eat, ignoring any curious looks he was receiving from the under classman around him.

Andi ate her food with relish. She was really very hungry after not eating on the train, and the food at Hogwarts was always so good. She'd have to be sure to get out on her broom tomorrow to burn off the heavy dinner, but for now she was just glad to be eating. When she was full, Andi checked up and down the table. Everyone was involved in their own conversations, including her brother and Wendi and Brennan, who seemed to be embroiled in some sort of drama.

Andi climbed under the table and scooted up to the Staff Table. All the staff members looked at her curiously, but it didn't stop Andi from rounding the table and grabbing ahold of her Uncle Harry. "Uncle Harry, it is very poor form for you to not let us know you were going to be here. I think Rusty and Joey are going to have a nervous breakdown." She teased her uncle and gave him a bear hug before a stern throat-clearing from McGonagall brought her back to herself.

"Who cares about muggle stuff, anyway?" Bryce shrugged. Noticing Orion finally walk in, he got up and sat next to his friend. "Glad you could join us. What kept you? You missed your Miss Rosier's sorting but, that won't be a problem seeing as how you'll have access to her in the common room later."

"What did they say? Anything important?" Orion had no hopes that MacNair would let his absence drop, but he could try. "And you... how did the ride up to the castle go? I saw you run after one of those twins."

"Harry Potter is the new DADA prof, Hagrid is leaving Hogwarts at the end of term, and I," he paused for dramatic emphasis. "I accompanied the lovely Alexa Winston to the castle. But, don't think I've forgotten... I want an answer. What kept you from the sorting; Beth thought for sure you'd be here to see Rosier get sorted?"

"I got out of the carriage to get away from Greengrass and it was the last in the line. I had to walk back to the castle. It took a lot longer than I would have thought." He tried to give a carefree shrug and wondered why he was hiding it from Bryce that he'd walked back with Potter. "And... any progress with Alexa? That's the pretty one, right?"

"Uh-huh," Bryce said, a bit skeptical of Orion's story but, his face brightened at the mention of progress. "Yeah, Alexa is the pretty one. And yes, progress was definitely made. I wouldn't be surprised if I had myself a companion for the first Hogsmeade trip." He grabbed another large piece of bread and began to munch while looking down the table at the new Slytherins.

Orion propped his elbows on the table and grinned, pushing his plate away. "Well, so much for the thrill of the chase. And with twins... you can't exactly woo them both at the same time like with normal girls. Maybe I'll take up with the other ones, although I don't fancy the sporty girls." He shrugged and eyed down the table too.

"Well, we've got all term to pick and chose," he said, and pointed down toward the others. "Ophelia seems to be looking for some first night back fun. And what about that Rosier? Should be easier to make progress with her now that she's in our house; no meddling Gryffindors to get in your way."

"I'm smart enough to know that Rosier needs a little space before I start trying to win her over. She might not have Weasley's influence anymore, but she still has all those nasty things Weasley whispered in her ear to get over. Let me prove my intentions are noble and all that bunk before we move on." Orion sneered at a first year that was looking at him with her mouth open before commenting on Ophelia. "Lia is looking well, but I'm not sure I'm ready to take up with her again."

"Yeah, I like to get warmed up before tackling that one," Bryce laughed. "So, what were you really doing? I wouldn't have thought it would take you that long to walk up to the castle. Did you get lost along the way or something?"

"I went back on the train to get a heavier cloak. I wasn't the only person who missed the carriages, so I walked back with her... It just took longer than I intended." He shrugged and looked around the room. "It isn't a big deal. This feast sure wasn't something to worry about being on time for."

"What's wrong with her? Everything is wrong with her. Look, let me lay down some guidelines for you as a new Slytherin. One, we are the best, the elite. People like the Weasley's... that are poor and muggle lovers we don't associate with. Two, normally there is a Gryffindor and SLytherin barrier. They.. are arrogant and generally just get on our nerves. This rule applies to everything but guys. Like.. Jake Winston.. he's a Gryffindor, but who could say no a hottie like that?" Lia said, stretching her neck to see him.. "You got all that?"

Serenity just stared at the girl sitting beside her. Was she for real? Was this what all the Slytheirns thought? How in Merlin's name did the sorting hat think she belonged in a house like this?

"Her?" Bryce raised his eyebrows and leaned over. "Who was it?"

Orion stared across the hall at the far wall before turning and smiling at Bryce disarmingly. "A gentleman never tells. And that is all I'll say on it."

Harry walked in to a roar of approval. He wasn't too sure how the students would react to his being named the new Professor but he thought it would be nice and timely to take on the position while his own children were still in attendance. He sat down next to Snape at the staff table, which in itself, was about as ironic as it could get. As a student Harry and Snape, loathed each other. Now they would be colleagues.
As food appeared on his plate, Andi also appeared and chastised him for not telling her cousins. "Well, dear," he said hugging her, it wasn't actually decided until just the other day and your aunt and I felt that we would wait and suprise all of you." He looked over as MacGonagal cleared her throat, "you'd better go back to your seat before I get in trouble on my first night," he teased, not really wanting her to leave.

Beth barely noticed as Bryce left, her attention following one of the Winston twins. What in Merlin's name is she doing, she thought as she watched the girl drop under the table. She dismissed her first guess as ludicrous. No one would have that hard a neck. She followed the girls progress through the crowd, watching as she made her way to the Staff table. So that was it, she thought, wondering what would be made of such unusual actions. Sure enough McGonagall's face showed her disaproval. Not that anyone will say anything of course, she thought to herself. It was Harry Potter after all.

"It would be just like old times, Uncle Harry," Andi grinned and moved away from the table but not before McGonagall called her back and whispered a few words to her before sending her on her way. Andi whooped and leaped back to Harry's side to hug him again. "Did Rusty tell you that I'm captain this year?"

Bryce raised his eyebrows once more and smirked. "So that's it, then," he laughed. "Well, I'm glad you had yourself a good time already. I guess that means I'm falling behind."

He stretched and yawned. "What do you say we blow this scene?"

Orion's eyebrows shot up and he sat back, eager to be gone. "Did you get the password? I could use a little rest and relaxation, and being in this nuthouse certainly isn't providing it." He stood and straightened his robes and cloak, thinking momentarily about his cloak that Potter still had. Hopefully she'd take him at his word and never return it or speak of it again.

"Actually Professor MacGonagal asked me for my recomedation, she had a couple of candidates and I gave her a few suggestions.....congratulations," he said, smiling, "you'll be great."
