"It's okay. I really did deserve detention for my stupidity," Day looked over to where Potter was sitting. "I don't think I have to worry about Potter tonight with Snape there to supervise."

Wyn awoke and stretched lazily. She glanced at the clock and groaned. Then she groaned again when she realized she had detention that night with Potter, Jay, and Day. Well, Day wouldn't be so bad. And Jay... Wyn wasn't sure about him. As long as Potter kept himself to himself, Wyn thought they'd all survive.

Pansy leaned in from where she was listening to Day and Draco's conversation. She felt slightly exultant from the knowledge that Draco didn't fancy Day.

"I don't understand why we aren't punishing McMillan for hexing Day," she pouted. Pansy was always up for a good hexing.

Day smiled at Pansy's slow thinking. "Pansy, dear... Why do you think John went smashing into the wall the other night, hmm?"

Pansy frowned. "But that was YOU punishing him. I think we should get a chance to do it too. I, uh... I know a blinding hex...?"

Even Pansy realized how unimpressive that sounded, although it had worked so effectively on Mattie. "I just think Slytherins have to do something about one of their own attacking another of their own. I wish we could just... kick him out of the house."

Day narrowed her eyes at Pansy, "Blinding hex? That's interesting Pansy. Yes, I agree... hexing people within your own house is a serious offence."

Pansy shifted uneasily at Day's words and her look was penetrating, but she was very good at shaking off things she didn't like.

"Couldn't we do that, though? Couldn't we just get everyone to ignore him for being so un-Slytherin?"

Day sighed. "I doubt it. But, let's talk about you some more, Pansy. So, this blinding hex of yours... Is it effective?"

Pansy looked excited. "Yeah, it's a really good curse. Leaves people totally helpless. Imagine McMillan helpless!" She sighed.

Suddenly, she looked a little suspicious. "But lots of people know blinding hexes. Even your precious new friend Wyn. She told me when we were first years that she had known it forever and that her father even shot her with it so that she could practice hexing impaired."

"Yeah, well some are more effective than others. I know several different blinding hexes, myself. Most of them aren't too bad- just leave you with blurred vision- and they don't act instantly. But, there is one..." Day left it hanging and studied Pansy's reaction.

Pansy tried to look innocent, but she failed miserably. There wasn't anything remotely innocent about Pansy, and she had never been much of an actress.

"There are different strengths of blinding hex? I wonder where the one I know ranks. I have heard there might be negative side effects."

Day put her arm around Pansy's shoulders. "Why don't we take a little walk, Pansy? I feel like I need a little air after being cooped up in that hospital wing."

Pansy tried to get out of Day's grip, but the girl's summer playing Quidditch had made her strong. After wriggling uselessly for a moment, she relaxed and nodded her head.

"That sounds nice. I do hope you're feeling better?"

"Yes, I'm feeling much better, thanks," Day said, dragging Pansy up with her. "Now, we'll just stop outside the door to pick up my wand and you can tell me all about your blinding hex. I'm anxious to hear if it's any of the ones I know."

Pansy thought briefly about making a run for it, but she knew she wouldn't make it very far if Day was willing to hex her. And something about the steely quality to her voice let Pansy know that Day was VERY willing to hex her.

"What, what do you want to know?"

Day ushered Pansy out of the door and picked up her wand from the table Snape had placed there for her to keep her wand, safely. Day wondered what sort of charm Dumbledore had put on the threshold of the Great Hall- Snape said she would regret it if she tried to cross that line with a wand on her person.... Her thoughts turned back to Pansy, "Well, I was wondering where you learnt it. I mean, if it's one of the more advanced hexes, I'm sure you couldn't have learned the wand motions from a book."

Harry, ROn and Jay continued to eat and talk about the upcoming Quidditch season...." I wonder why Hermione didn't come down yet," Harry said as he noticed Day and Pansy head out side....

Pansy lifted her chin. "I learned it from my father. He told me that every pretty young girl needs to have a defense against the wilds of the world."

Wyn finally rolled out of bed, dreading the day. If she hurried, she'd just have time to make it to the Great Hall to grab some toast. Yuck... she needed to get up earlier. She was sick of toast.

She brushed her hair, but ignored the braid in favor of time. In a hurry, she got dressed, grabbed her books, and ran for the Great Hall.

Day smiled. "Yeah, I know what you mean. Well, Mattie may not have had a ready defence, but I know she'll never need to worry about you again," Day gave Pansy an evil smirk as she pointed her wand.

Pansy backed slowly away from Day, her eyes wide and fearful. "I don't know what you're talking about, Day. I didn't have anything to do with..." She changed course suddenly, her voice still pleading. "Day, Draco will be so angry if you hex me. He cares about me very much..."

Wyn yawned as she settled on the bench, wondering where the other seventh years were. Probably on their way to class like any good student would be. She grabbed a glass of pumpkin juice.

"Draco doesn't scare me, Pansy. I just wan tyou to understand that I will not tolerate petty hexing of other Slytherins. Get over yourself, Pansy! "Offensio"!" Pansy staggered back as if she had been hit with a bludger to the stomach. She fell upon the grass and Day moved her behind a bush. She would wake up on her own at some point and hopefully she had enough sense to keep her mouth shut.

Day walked calmly back into the Great Hall, depositing her wand first, and began to finish her breakfast. "Hey Wyn. Did you see my new flowers?" she asked, pointing to the flowers on the table.

Wyn looked up at Day's greeting, pushing her hair out of her face. She yawned and smiled sheepishly. "Hey, Day... ready for another fascinating day of classes at Hogwarts? I saw your flowers. They're beautiful. Where'd you get them?"

"They were on the nightstand in place of the roses from yesterday," Day said looking queerly at them. "But, this time there was note.." seeing Wyn start to get excited she hurried on, "But there was no name."

Day leaned in a little closer to Wyn and whispered, "I took care of Mattie's little problem. Tell her for me if you see her before me."

Wyn nodded to show that she understood. Day had done something to Pansy... which was good. You just DON'T attack your own house. It wasn't done.

She studied the lovely flowers, stroking one petal with her fingertip. "What did the note say? Who do you think it might be from?" She looked at everyone at their table, in consideration, then looked across the hall at the other tables. "It could be anyone."
