Severus closed the book completely and locked it in his trunk before responding. "Practical Dark Arts," he responded, studying the boy's reaction.

James didn't react right away to the book title, he had heard about people who studied Dark Arts, but hadn't met any of them before, "well that's nice, I guess...." he noticed that the two of them had already eaten some snacks and decided that he was hungry, "I think I'm going to find that food cart lady, I'll see you two around," and he got up to leave

Bella pouted at Severus. "You scared him away. He was good blood, and probably worth spending time with, and you frightened him off. Do you plan on having friends at Hogwarts, or are do you prefer to be the scariest thing there? Because I have to warn you, I hear there's this incredibly Dark forest absolutely full of things that are scarier than you..." Her tone held a little maliciousness, but mostly curiosity.

Severus sneered at Bellatrix. "I didn't like him," he said said, simply. He wasn't sure why; he only knew that that boy irritated him to no end with his messy hair, his incessant questions, and his obvious distaste of the Dark Arts. "Anyone worth knowing would not have left upon hearing the title of the book I was reading."

James had wandered a bit down the halls of the train, occasionally bumping into the walls as it swayed, he hit a door of a compartment and looked in, "wow this room's crowded," he thought to himself, he was about to head away when he noticed that one of the girls in that carriage had red hair and freckles, she looked cute.....he logged it away in his head and continued down the way eventually finding the food cart

*Sirius and Remus continued their Quidditch talk, completely ignoring the girls. Remus was much more interesting than them to Sirius. But, in true Sirius character, being in one place for a long period of time, made him figety. *

"Well, Remus...ladies...I think I'll go ask how much longer, and maybe hit that old lady up again for some snacks. Don't miss me too much now," He said with his usual charming smile. Sirius got up and left the car, but had no intentions whatsoever of finding out about the train. He wanted to check out the other cars, maybe give his least favorite cousin of all a hard time. He searched through the cars..meeting and greeting. Then, he found what he was looking for....Bella and a greasy-haired, snotty looking boy. Perfect. He sqeezed in and plopped down beside Bella, puting his arm around her. *

"Hi Cousin. Fancy seeing you here. Aren't you going to introduce me to your new pal?" Sirius said with all the suave sarcasm he couls muster.

Remus sat still for almost a full five seconds before jumping to his feet. It was just cruel and unusual of Sirius to leave him like that, alone with the two girls. They were staring at him... he just knew it. "I... I'm hungry too!" he said suddenly. "I'm going to catch Sirius. Can I get you anything?" He left the compartment before they answered and hurried in the direction he supposed Sirius went. He did find the food cart, but Sirius wasn't there. Instead, a boy about his own age with unruly dark hair was buying food. "Sorry," Remus mumbled when the woman tried to sell him something. "Looking for someone."

Bella slapped Sirius's arm away. "Don't touch me, you toad," she spit her words at him. He stayed, lounging next to her, and her expression turned dark. "I told you before, Siri... stay away from me and mine. Hogwarts is a big school, and I'm sure you can manage to find a few friends of your own, even if we do somehow end up in the same house."

"And it's nice to see you too, Bells. Boy how I missed that lovely face of yours. " Sirius sat back and put his hands behid his head, sighing a bit.

"Oh Bella, don't act like you don't enjoy my company. I know you better than that....but let's just get one thing straight..If I end up in the same house as you, and your kind..then someone somewhere made a huge mistake. Now, show your true Black manners and introduce me to your pal here." Sirius said with rather large grin and a nod towards the lanky boy across from him.

"Don't presume to know anything about me, Sirius, and don't knock 'my kind,'" Bella said coolly. "You are my kind, even if you deny it. You're a Black. You're powerful, you're pure-blooded, and you want what you want. Stop being some sort of misfit and acting like you're too good to be the best there is."

She paused, before rolling her eyes. "Oh, that's Severus. Severus Snape."

Severus sat back in his seat and watched the two cousins spar. It was quite entertaining and he was rather enjoying himself until their attention was diverted to him. He didn't know what to make of this boy. He obviously didn't like something about Bellatrix and Severus had a sneaky suspicion he knew what it was he didn't like you kind. Which meant the boisterous boy was likely turn that "charm" on him, next.

Snape smirked as he nodded his head in greeting to Sirius.

Remus was startled when the boy spoke to him. "Er... no. I was looking for this boy. He has longish dark hair. Really fancy-sort of robes... nevermind." He rolled his eyes at his own foolishness. He didn't know why he was bothering to look for Sirius anyway. The boy would come back, and girls weren't THAT scary.

He turned to make his way back down to the car he came from. "I suppose I'll check in the other direction, and then I'll just wait. Maybe he'll find me."

*Sirius ignored Bella. He had already had enough of her, all he had planned to do was get under her skin a little, and he was pretty sure he had succeeded. But this new guy, Severus, now he was an interesting guy. He looked as if his skin had never seen the light of day, and his face just suggested that he was up to no good. He looked like a prime prey for Sirius.*

"Severus! How very wonderful it is to meet a friend of my cousin Bella here." *He said as he stood to observe him better*" I'm sure she has already given you an earfull all about me, so I'll just leave it at that. So, what do you like to do Severus? Obviously not go outside much." Sirius said with a slight snicker.

Severus sneered at Sirius as he stood over him. Keeping his eyes on the boy the whole time, he carefully stuck his hand in his pocket and grasped his wand handle so that he wouldn't notice. As Sirius asked him So, what do you like to do Severus? Severus withdrew his wand and muttered a curse, sending Sirius flying back through the compartment door. But, before he could shut the door, the larger boy had regained his footing...

As Sirius flew through the air, Bella laughed in delight. Her cousin's feet had actually left the ground! She turned and smiled genuinely at Severus for the first time. "Excellent!" she praised him. "Be sure to hit him again. He's got a lot of power, but he works like a Muggle... all muscle and no brain."

She turned and watched the encounter in anticipation.

*Sirius was more mad than he had been in a long time.He had just been gotten by Greasy. But, despite the ever more rising feeling of recklessness bubbling up inside him, he actually remained somewhat calm on the outside. He rose up off the floor, out in the hall of the train, sticking his foot in the door so the little creep couldn't lock him out. Down the hall a bit was Remus, and another boy, looking about the same age. Sirius shrugged at them, gave a quick laugh, and waved. Then he dove back in at the bony, greasy, evil little guy, pinning him to the ground, before he could draw the wand again. He wiggled and squirmed underneath the weight of Sirius, but couldn't get out. Sirius laughed until his sides hurt.*

Severus tried to lift his wand to defend himself but, the boy, Sirius was too quick and toppled him. His wand rolled under the seat and he was pinned to the ground under the larger boy. He tried wriggling free, but the boy had a good hold on him. Glancing up at the girl, he knew by the look on her face that she wouldn't help him so he turned back to his wand. Stretching out his hand, his fingertips could just touch the end.... If he could just move an inch more to the right....

Severus put his left hand up to try and take some of Sirius' weight off of him as he slithered over just enough... "Got it!" he yelled triumphantly and pointed the wand in Sirius' face, "Furnunculus!"

Great boils began erupting on his face and Sirius put his hands up. Severus seized this opportunity to wriggle out from underneath the preoccupied boy and retreated to a corner, his wand still outstretched. He looked over at the door to the compartment and saw a crowd of people had gathered to watch the drama unfold...

*Sirius grabbed his face as the boils sprouted out. It was really quite painful, but during the chaos, the snake underneath him managed to slither out from under him and retreated, like a true coward would, to the corner. Sirius didn't even wait for the boils to stop appearing before launching his retaliation attack. Before Severus could even mutter another curse at Sirius, Sirius had him by the throat, pounding on his face with his fist, trying to inflict as much pain as possible. Sirius only stopped when he heard a gasp or two from behind him. Still grasping the filth by the neck, Sirius turned to see the crowd he had managed to gather. He couldn't exactly see who it was, through the mass of boils still popping up on his face, but he could tell they were there. *

Unable to breath, let alone say anything, Severus was stuck waiting for the blows to come. It wouldn't have been so bad if he hadn't known that there was an audience; he had suffered worse pains under the heavy hand of his father. But, this wasn't his father and Severus would not stand to be humiliated. One hand grasped at the hand around his neck and the other pointed his wand at Sirius' chest. He tried prying at the fingers to catch enough breath to utter his curse.

The first things out of his mouth as he managed to pry one of the fingers away from his windpipe sounded like nothing more than a series of snivelling groans, as his lungs attempted to fill themselves with air. But after a couple breaths, he had managed to utter another curse, breaking Sirius' hold on him, and sending himinto the crowd of people behind him.

Snape fell to his knees on the ground, without Sirius to hold him up. His non-wand hand went to his throat as he wheezed. His eyes watered and his nose ran and bled as he coughed and sputtered with the sudden influx of air.

James breifly saw a boy get flung into the hall down from where he and the other kid where standing, as the boy went back in he heard some struggling and yelling, sounded like a brawl had started, never one to turn down watching a fight, James followed the other boy quiclkly down to the compartment as did many of the other students, a small crowd was gathered around the open door, James squeezed his way to the front to see the bigger kid on top of the boy that James had met before

Suddenly the upper boy came flying once more into the crowd guarding the door as the greasy haired kid mumbled some spell, as the boy landed at James' feet he noticed boils all over his face, "ewww, those are going to leave a mark," joked James, he surveyed the compartment a bit and then added, "anyone need some help in here?"

Sirius smiled up at the boy hovering over him. A jokester. Just like himself. Sirius pulled himself up off the floor once again, rubbing the back of his head. "That is definantly going to leave a mark"," he thought.*

"No..no I don't think I need any help. I was just giving greasy here a hard time. *Sirius looked over at the pathetic heap on the floor, bleeding and spluttering.* He brought it on himself, the snivelling idiot. *Sirius retrieved his new wand from the inside of his robes* Well, we're all having so much fun now...why stop?"Sirius grinned and pointed his wand at the babbling baby on the floor.

Severus lifted his head and sat back on his heels. As Sirius slowly went for his wand, Severus wiped his hooked nose on the sleeve of his robe and pointed his wand again. "Expelliarmus!" he said and the boy's wand went flying out of his hand.

Quickly getting to his feet in expectation of another muggle attack, Severus backed up into the compartment, keeping his wand steady on Sirius. His eyes narrowed as he sneered, "Stay away from me, if you know what's good for you."

"wow, impressive," thought James to himself, the greasy kid may be a prat but he knew his spells, but still James couldn't resist having a little fun at someone elses expense, he lifted his wand ever so slightly from his trousers and pointed it at the rack of suitcases and clothes above where the boy was standing, he was immediately cascaded by coats, scarves and books, tumbling him to the ground, knocking the wand out of his hand

*Sirius was a little stunned at the kid on the floor. He really knew a lot of spells and such to just be first year. That must explain his colorless skin..he spent all his time indoors studying. What a geek. Then the new guy that had offered to help, toppled a load of bags onto his head. Sirius moved quick as he saw Severus's wand roll from his hand. He sprung and got his own and Snape's wands. Then he went and stood close to the boy who had magnificently buried Snape. He extended his hand to him and smiled through his boil infested face.*

"The names Sirius. It's sure nice to meet you."
