Gald you're here, but what do you think about the topic we are discussing? What are your thoughts on the corruption in the Ministry?
I think I would have done whatever it took to do what's best for the Ministry. I would rather die standing up for what I believe in than "fall in line" with those who appeared to be in power. I would have probably been cursed to think what they wanted, but if not, I would fight my rump off. | |

I think there's a lot more to the corruption than just, 'Oh, there are Death Eaters in the Ministry.'
Corruption didn't start with the Death Eaters-- they just sort of hightened it. But for them to do that at all, corruption would have needed to be apart of it before hand. Obviously we don't know what it was like the first time Voldemort was in power. We only know little bits here and there. Like Barty Crouch was sending people to Azkaban without trial. That's corrupt even if it seems like it's not. The justice system needs to be constant and strong. If you can send someone to prison or the Demetor's Kiss because you think you're right, then where is there justice????
We all know that Sirius was innocent, but he was sent to Azkaban without trial with some evidence. Although the evidence was solid, all they would have had to do was sit him in that chair, give him some Veritaserum and ask 'Did you send He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named (they wouldn't say Voldemort) after Lily and James Potter?' and it would have been done because obviously he would have said, 'No. We changed the Secret Keeper to Peter Pettigrew.'
If I were working in the Ministry at the time, I would do pretty much what Kingsley and Arthur and them did. I would work in the Order. And if worst came to worst, I would send my family packing and go into hiding while still working my tush off trying to stop the Death Eaters and Voldemort.
But it's like I said, corruption didn't start with the Death Eaters. Where it started? Who knows? But it's been apart of the system for as long as the system has existed. It's woven into the system. That's just how it is-- how people are.

| So, Death Eaters out of the picture, what would you do to prevent/stop further corruption? In post DH days, you don't have the Voldie/DE threat, so the life/death part of it wouldn't be "in the picture" as much. Would you try and set up some sort of corruption detection team or just a new way of checks and balances in the Ministry? I agree that there will always be "good and bad" people, so what should the new Ministry do about it?

Well, I know that Jo said Harry, Ron and Hermione all work in Magical Law Enforcement, Harry and Ron as Aurors and Hermione high up in the division and they bring about a lot of reforms....
I think it's hard to keep corruption at bay for too long because man kind seeks power. No matter how pure the system is, someone will come along and destroy that purity.

From a certain point on people will turn in and do what they are told to do. Most people aren't resistant fighter, they just don't want to lose their job.
And that's the frightening, because a regime wouldn't work without those "small" workers.

We may not have done the wrong thing but defiantly been scared and secretive about our disagreements.
