No I don't think he would have done as much with Lucius if he didn't have Draco. For all we know, maybe Voldemort was slightly jealous of Lucius because he had a wife and child. But that's besides the point.
And yes, we do know some other death eaters with kids at Hogwarts who are the same age as Harry. I could think of at least two: Crabbe and Goyle. I believe Nott also had a kid too, but not sure...

Thank you! And there might have been no way for Lucius to get the diary into the school, but as I mentioned before, there were other kids who had fathers that were death eaters. We might have seen more of Crabbe or Goyle, but I am confident that JKR would have found someway for it to work, even without Draco.

I disagree though with Snape and Lucius keeping contact. Lucius is the type of person who would use any means possible to keep in contact and maintain his high status with important figures. I know Snape wasn't that high authority, but he was one of those figures who needed to be "watched", since he was acting as a spy (for which side, we found out in the last book). But I still think that Lucius would have found a way to maintain his connections at Hogwarts and since Snape was the only "death eater" there, it would have been through him.

I'm a little late following up on the discussion topic. I think if Lucius hadn't had a son that Voldemort might have focused his attention more on another DE who did have a son, such as Crabbe Sr., Goyle Sr. or Nott Sr. The son of a DE was important because he was supposed to have been the one to kill Dumbledore and if it had been someone other than Draco, things might have turned out a lot differently.

LMFC Officer Position(s) Application

Jess (hermi886) and I are now working hard to get the LMFC up and running, but we'll need everyone's help in making this club all it can be. If you are interested in becoming an officer, please feel free to fill out an application and submit it both Jess and I.


Here are the available positions:

I know that this is going to be a disagreement to some of the other responses, so don't bite my head off too much

But erm, I don't think they were married, because of a deep love for each other, and I wouldn't use the word convenience either. They knew each other in school and could have possibly dated or been decent enough friends, but I highly doubt they were as smitten with each other as Lily and James. I definitely think they care about each other, but I think their relationship was more of an agreement with a small notion of interest, at least in the beginning. I think Narcissia also favored Lucius, because he seems to be a man of power and intelligence. I think then just love grew over time.

I agree exactly! I really believe that theirs was a marriage of convenience rather than love, and that it wasn't until Draco came into the picture (maybe even after that) that the two of them started to feel any true emotion toward one another. I don't think Lucius gave her much thought before that time, he does impress as the type who would have been pretty cold, especially in an arranged marriage.

I think that it was something that was arranged. To keep pure bloodlines and the right families united together. They would have to be very careful to not let the wrong person slip into the family.
