Discussion:
Not just with the difference of spells, because obviously new spells and potions and ideas are being founded every day just like in the muggle world... But something probably was vastly different was the structure or lack thereof of the wizarding world. It's not like there were always strict rules about the use of magic, or we would not have the witch burnings... But I'm sure rules were more lenient with everyone running amock and doing magic as they pleased; without a care in the world.

Discussion: The founders' most obvious goal was to educate the young wizards and witches of their present and future, but they probably did have more remote goals as well. I mean, Rowena might have intended to widen the known magic of the time by watching her students.. or something. And Helga surely wanted to give everybody a chance to learn and become great, while Salazar might have wanted to have personal gain of some sort as a side effect of starting the school. And Gryffindor... I don't know what Godric's personal goals might have been. Maybe wanted to teach the next generation of heroes or something.
