Er...this was touched upon earlier, but I don't know how deep you guys got into it...Bellatrix's relationship with her husband versus Voldemort. As in, why would she marry anyone if she was in love with Voldemort? Did she only discover that after she got married and joined the Death Eaters? How do you think Rodolphus felt? Did Bella ever, at any point, love her husband? etc.

That's a great topic! I don't think we ever finished with it. I do think Bellatrix had some kind of big fascination with Voldemort, whether it was really love or just idolation from afar is something we will never really know. Rodolphus was a loyal Death Eater, of course, so he never questioned any of his wife's undying devotion, he probably thought it was only a natural thing. Me, I think there was a little more to it than that!

I have a new rule for the game, so guess away!

I always saw the whole Bella/Voldemort/Rodolphus triangle as that idea where you can love more than one person as once, but the pull of one person is stronger. There's also the idea that it was in Bellatrix's best interest to marry Rodolphus for some reason, as opposed for trying to marry Voldemort (which I'm sure would not work) or staying single. I think Rodolphus is also obsessed with being a Death Eater, enough so that he didn't mind Bellatrix's obvious infatuation with Voldemort.

I don't think Bellatrix would have cheapened her relationship with Voldemort by loving him in the fashion that she wanted to know him in the Biblical sense and the marriages there were arranged between the pure blood families I think were done just to keep the blood pure. They weren't love matches by any stretch of the imagination. So I don't think Bella and Rodo were in the marriage for love. They were just two people joined together by a piece of paper.

I like that point. I never really thought of their marriage as arranged, all though I think there might be hints of that in the books...maybe Bellatrix likes the excitement (for lack of a better word) of not being able to claim Voldemort. I'm not sure Voldy would allow that in any case.

I mean there are only a few pureblood wizarding families so we have to assume that some of the marriages were arranged. Bellatrix does not seem like the sort of woman who could have been bothered by marriage. I mean her and her husband never had children they were to busy doing Voldy dirty work, but her sisters both had children.

That's a good point about Bellatrix and marriage. I really think it was strictly a marriage of convenience, they never did have any children and apparently they really weren't that affectionate with each other. From reading the books it seems they were rarely together and really could care less if they were or not. I think Bellatrix cared far more for Voldemort than she did for Rodolphus.

I recently wrote a story involving Bellatrix and Rodolphus and in that they actually got closer, but of course that's only in a story!
