I think he probably became the owner of the Hogs Head through a lot of hard work. We know that he loved the bar and put a lot of work into it, no doubt the owner at that time saw this and recognized that Aberforth would make a great person to run the place. Or it might even be possible that he inherited the bar, but I don't think that's what happened, somehow. I kinda think it was through all his work and dedication.

I totally agree with Slytherin Fox. Aberforth does show in Deathly Hallows that, despite his somewhat rough attitude, when he does care about something/something he'll fight for it or protect it. He probably showed he really cared for a place like the Hog's Head and thus became the new owner.

Yesh, I think both ya'll are right. Aberforth is no doubt hard-working, and I can even see him working hard to keep up the pub's low-key reputation. I wonder if Albus had any hand in helping him secure the position though...since it's so close to Hogwarts, maybe Albus thought he'd need to keep an eye on Aberforth?

That's an interesting point, and it may have started out like that. That's something I never really considered before, and I think it just may have happened that way. You never know!

Like others have said, I think some of it was through Aberforth being hardworking. I don't think he is one to have used Albus to get him the job though; he seems like he'd be one to work towards some goal to get what he really wants... Perhaps stubborn, if you will.

Yes, stubborn Aberforth no doubt was. I'm sure he did want to get ahead on his own merits, without any help from Albus, even if he might have been the one that actually set the process in motion for him to get the job in the first place.

No, she never did, and that would be something we could speculate about. Who did own the Hog''s Head before Aberforth, what kind of person do you thiink it was? It could be interesting to have some kind of picture.

What if they'd had interviews and applications? Can you just see a little sign below the Hog's Head sign: "Now Hiring."

Maybe he was the first one, and that's how he got the job! He could have been a really loyal patron, a "regular" at the pub, and so he was already familiar with the area and the owners and all.

Plus, he could have used Albus as a reference.

Even if Albus was the one to set the process in motion, then I don't think he got Aberforth the job per se. And if he did, he would never tell Aberforth because of his brother's stubbornness.

That's a good question about previous owners of the Hog's Head. More to speculate about this character now... Not really sure of the type of person who owned it before Aberforth, but for some reason I see it being some elderly man that was about to retire.
Before the man retired, he 'handed his pub' over to his most loyal customer, who happened to be Aberforth. It seems to be more likely then a "now hiring" sign; at least to me

Yes, Jess, I think that's what I would imagine too. A now hiring sign would be too Muggle for Hogsmeade.

I could see an old couple, or maybe just an old man, who was probably friends with Aberforth and saw him as trustworthy, loyal, same kind of mettle....yep.

Hmmm, the Three Broomsticks as a family business, I never thought about that. Maybe they were the last in their line and since Aberforth was a good friend of theirs and a loyal customer, they saw the worth in him and decided to leave the club to him.

Very possible! You never know, the Three Broomsticks may have been in the Dumbledore family for many years before Aberforth actually took over running it. There is so little we know...

OR... what if he was secretly dating Madam Rosmerta!?! =O They're both "older" right? I mean, it's possible. They both own pubs, despite that one is drastically more busy than the other... but they're both connected to Albus.. Ooh! I actually like that idea the more I think about it. =)
