Mary was unsurprised that the trick didn't work. She pulled out her wand and practiced the movement, afraid to cast on herself, but trying at all costs to escape group work. She practiced the incantation again before pointing at her own nose.

Trying to clear the fear, Mary pointed at her own nose and said "Singultus Fixus." The affect was immediate, but it wasn't what she wanted. She started hiccuping louder, so loud it was louder than everything in the room. The hiccups were so powerful they hurt her throat.

"Oww!" she yelped. She knew she should have asked.

Since WHEN did Professor’s get you to make a fool of yourself for an outcome that was never going to get rid of the HICCUPS?!? Pouting, Holly stomped back across the classroom, although she was rather light on her feet and they didn’t make any extra sound. Which, for once, angered her all the more. She wanted to stomp and make a noise.

With a huff, and a sigh, the second year sat back down in her chair, pushing her curls away from her face as she pulled her wand from its holster and listened to the instructions.

Singultus fixus.

That was simple enough right? ”Singletus Fixus. Singeltus Fixis. Sing-gul-tess Fix-ess.” Um… No, nope.They didn’t sound right. Listening to some of the other students, she tried to copy them, repeating it over and over and over again until she found something that sounded more like the original charm that the Professor had used.

“SinGULtuss FIXuss” Yes… That sounded right. Or, at least she thought it did.

Was he really shushing her? Their professor didn't even notice that there were about five identical students in her classroom, she was fairly certain she wouldn't notice that Indigo wasn't hiccuping like the rest. As for her...

*HIIIC*

Still suffering from magical hiccups over here and boy was she ready to be done with those. *HIIIC* "Please do." The sooner Indigo cured her, the better off she'd be. *HIIIC* In the meantime, she practiced the wand movement so she could perfect it as best she could.

Malachi turns back to Kaira after the professor makes her announcement, taking his wand out as he does. "P*hiccup*Partners?"

Hanna jumped as Chloe leaned RIGHT UP CLOSE to her face and spoke. She was not expecting that, but a second passed...

HICCUP!

Hanna let out a laugh, clearly Chloe's surprise attack wasn't enough to scare the hiccups away. "I can... try to." How easy was it to scare someone who was expecting it? She thought quickly. Obviously a 'BOO' wouldn't do the trick. A scary story wasn't really the scare factor, right? Hanna bent down, her head under the desk. She scrunched up a piece of parchment, and popped back up. She threw it towards Chloe, saying "SPIDER!" as she did so.

Spiders were scary, right? Maybe not a parchment spider.



Hanna listened to the explanation of Singultus fixus. Of course there would be a spell to fix magically induced hiccups. She watched Professor Dopple perform the wand movement. A little tap. Quick, little tap. But of course not near the nose, that was how eyes popped out. Hanna lifted her wand, imagined a face in front of hers, and tapped it near the imaginary nose. Tap.

...say what?

So Torii had just spent the last half of class basically doing nothing at all? Well, she had been doing something, but it had amounted to nothing, and that was kind of the same thing. Then there was the fact that she'd still managed to cure her hiccups, although now she had no idea how.

*hiccup* ...

Oh.

Or not. She cast Gunnar a sideways glance then sighed. "So basically," she said to him, "we were fooled." Dopple had won that round. Oddly enough. "I kind of feel like we should have seen that one coming..." Whatever. She had a spell to learn.

"Singultus Fixus," she said out loud. "Sin-gul-tuss fix-uss." Sounded right at least.

Daisy wasn't surprised considering how this class was turning out but then again, this was Charms class so charmwork would be a major part of it. Daisy grabbed her notebook and quill and she silently hiccuped after previously holding her breath for a few moments.

When she was done writing her notes, Daisy went straight to practising the pronunciation since the wand movement was an easy one. She ran through the spell in her mind. "sin - GUL - tuss - FIX - uss," Daisy repeated until she felt confident to try the spell.

When she was ready, Daisy picked up her wand and as she gave a little tap in the air, said, "Singultus Fixus!" She waited for a few moments and to her relief, she was free from the hiccups that had been plaguing her.

Valencia squinted at the handwriting on the board. It was hard to read while hiccuping. The hiccup made her head move in an uncomfortable way. The little ravenclaw was not having an enjoyable time.

She tried the wand movement out. She waved her wand, looking cross eyed at the tip, trying not to poke her own eye out.

HICCUP.

He hand flinched and she ended up poking her cheek with her wand. Hm. Magical hiccups were not fun.

Now that Hanna was happy with the hand movement, she wanted to get started on the incantation. Singultus Fixus. sin - GUL - tuss - FIX - uss. "sin-GUL-tuss FIX-uss," she said. "sin-GUL-tuss FIX-uss, sin-GUL-tuss FIX-uss, sin-GUL-tuss FIX-uss." Was she happy with the incantation now? Mostly.

She put her wand towards herself, which was such an odd feeling. Never had she pointed her wand at her own face before. It wasn't natural, and what if she poked her own eye out? It would feel much better performing this on someone else, she realised, but at the same time... what if she messed it up?

No, better be safe. "sin-GUL-tuss FIX-uss," she said, giving her wand a little quick tap towards her nose. She had committed to the spell, even though it felt weird. And the results...? No hiccups!

Kaira was happy that she had gotten points for her house, but she didn't exactly enjoy what they all had been put through for that. She smiled at the Professor and said 'Thanks'.

These hiccups were HORRIBLE! As Malachi turned to her and asked if they could partner up, she was grateful. 'Sure..these are so.'*HIC* 'annoying!'

Caolan was getting pretty bored at this point. Bored of the hiccups, bored of trying to get rid of them and bored of all the drama going on around him. He was pressing his tongue up to the roof of his mouth in a last ditch attempt to cure them when Drewett piped up. “True.” Well almost true. “Drinking upside down works but I don’t trust any of the water in this place” The more of that water he drank the worse the hiccups would undoubtedly get and he was not ready to risk that.

The professor moved the class on and Caolan let out an audible sigh of relief that he could get rid of this annoyance once and for all. He turned to his partner. “Shall we practice it first before we try it on each other?” Because knowing Caolan something would go wrong if he tried it straight away first time and he didn’t want to harm the younger guy.

He got out his wand and tapped it once in front of him speaking the words of the incantation.

“Singultus Fix- *HICCUP* -us”

How were you supposed to do a charm when you were stuck in a hiccuping fit? Someone clearly didn’t think this one through.

Jackson wasn’t ready for the heat wave that was the Charms classroom. Was she baking cookies? Or baking the students? The festive sight was taking some time to get used to though, because seriously, last year had done some damage on his brain. Even though it had been months since that year ended, Jackson still half expected to stand until instructed. Luckily he snapped out of it and he awkwardly found a seat as he greeted the professor. “Good day, Professor Dopple.” He read the instructions and got started on his primary school looking name.

And folded it in half. Soon enough, the professor was practically YELLING her enthusiasm, which Jackson found disturbing at almost any hour, but he also had to appreciate it. Her question was an easy one, honestly, but Jackson figured anyone who found out they could perform magic would. Ah. Hiccups. Yea, those could be quite annoying. Raising his hand, he answered, “Well yea the most popular of course are drinking lots of liquid, holding your breath, getting scared… Those are what I was always told.” Personally though, he hated holding his breath. And he wasn’t jump scared easily. Sooo… Hiccups sucked. As the other students were answering, Jackson finally started looking around… and… Wait. Something was up here because he thought he had met the only Max Carden at Hogwarts this year but apparently he had been gravely mistaken. And mistaken. And mistaken again. He seriously couldn’t blame the Headmaster for his words and actions. Who had thought this was a grand idea?? Jackson felt his ears go a little red when he and the other leaders were called out for not doing much here, but honestly he just hadn’t noticed the size of the issue. He tried to keep quiet, noticing some students looking over at Derf. Seriously though, if Derf had told the Headmaster… Well, how could you blame the HEAD BOY for doing the HEAD BOY THING?!

Then the lesson was getting started and she was seriously telling them to purposefully give themselves the hiccups. WHAT? But whhhyyyy? He could have just ate a feast really quickly instead. At least that was a more fun and more deserving way to get hiccups. Well… at least it wasn’t sweltering in here anymore. Jackson started with the easiest solution which was holding his breath. Whiiiiich was just giving him a headache. He summoned some water and began chugging it until there was a trickle of water that escaped down his cheek. Jackson could chug water for daaays he was sure, but he wondered how long would get rid of hiccups because this was NOT cutting it.

Hoping to make life easy on himself, Jackson tried chugging his water again but this time he was interrupted by his own stupid hiccup. And this time, PLENTY of water spilled out. With a roll of his eyes, he pulled out his wand and cleaned himself up. He looked at some of the other ways they had listed to get rid of hiccups but… he really didn’t want to do any of them. Well if it was a solution on the board, then they had the professor’s permission to do it. That’s how it worked right? So now it was time for Jackson to do his famous never-been-seen-before cartwheels! He had done a few terrible attempts at this when he heard some questions going around that made him stop. NONE OF THESE WOULD WORK??? Some of them were quite obvious or seemed dumb to him, but he had always thought the water one helped a lot. He hadn’t even thought about the fact that these were magical hiccups though. As quickly as possible, he scribbled Singultus Fixus down and pointed his wand at himself, trying to gauge the range he had before actually hitting his own nose. It would be dangerous to do so?? What would happen if he accidentally booped himself on the nose??

Malachi lifts his wand and does as the teacher had showed them and waits to see if Kaira hiccups again.

Holding her breath hadn't worked. Singing hadn't worked. And doing cartwheels hadn't worked either. Rylee was starting to think that nothing at all was going to work. Returning to her set she picked up her quill to cross off 'cartwheels' from her list.

No sooner had she done this than Professor Dopple had admitted that all this was for NOTHING! Everything they all were doing wasn't going to work. Why? Simple. The hiccups had been magically induced upon them. Of course. Rylee huffed quietly shaking her head before she started to laugh softly at herself. Why hadn't she thought of this before?! Was she upset about having done all of this for nothing? Nah, not really.

What she was upset about was the hiccups she had that were now making her stomach hurt. She was more than happy to move on to what was going to cure this for her! Quickly jotting down the charm on her parchment first she than quietly repeated the spell to herself several times. "Singultus Fixus...singultus fixus.." This was much easier said than done when she kept hiccuping before she could finish saying it.

Pulling her wand from the holster on her wrist she gave the air in front of her a little tap as if tapping someone on the nose. Very simple indeed. Now to really give the charm a try.

*HICCUP!* Fast!

"Sing-" *HICCUP!* HICCUP* UGH!

Clearing her throat she tried again. "Singultus Fixus!" she cast tapping the air quickly with her wand. Did it work?

For a moment there, Kaira stopped 'Yes!!,' she said, in exhilaration!! But

Okay, guess not. Uggh, this was so annoying!!

Since this was a spell Indigo hadn't done before, it would probably be for the best to give the movement a few tries before doing the spell. He kept being tempted to actually tap her nose. That seemed like what he should be doing but no, apparently that would be bad and he didn't want to do any lasting harm to Vita.

"Okay, ready?" He moved his wand in a little tap, just above her nose but not touching. "Singultus Fixus." And he waited. Did it work? Were they gone? Hiccups sometimes paused for a bit and made you think they were gone without really disappearing. So he wanted to make sure that wasn't what was happening here. But now that he had done it for her it was only fair that he let her do the charm on him. Indigo eyed the cup he was still holding and downed it quickly.

*Hiccup* "Your turn."

Just when he thought he had gotten rid of the stinking hiccups he had one escape his mouth. He wasn't sure how he had been tricked into drinking that stuff and getting the hiccups. Sighing he listened to the oldest woman in the world tell them how to FINALLY get rid of them.

Wait. He had a brain fart. Was he supposed to turn his wand hiccup around to face him? Oh no he was supposed to just boop his wand in the air. hiccup Well now he just needed to get rid of these because he hated them. He looked around trying to see if he could find someone who needed a partner still. He looked around, felt his chest constrict and he decided against it.

Gripping his wand he got it ready to boop so he could get rid of the hiccups. "Singultus Fixus" he commanded with a boop of his wand to the air. Holding his breath he waited and waited to see if the spell worked.

*HIC*

Oh yeah… They were getting sore now and Holly really didn’t appreciate how much they were interfering with her concentration. She was trying to learn here, did they now know???

Lifting her wand she did the motion a few times - her wand hand moving jumpily if she happened to *HIC* in the middle of the motion - her whole body moving from the horrible, meanly Professor induced hiccups. Trying to steady herself didn’t work either - as they were so random! Sometimes they were ten seconds apart, then four, then twenty. How was anyone meant to work like this???

Huffing and puffing, and still attempting to say the charm right with all of her *HIC*’s added in for good horrible measure, Holly sighed.

She hated failing. Well, failure wasn’t an option - she just hadn’t found the correct answer yet.

Okay, new plan. As sooooon as she hiccup’ed, she’d do the charm and hope she got it out before the next one. Yes. Charms based on hiccup timing.

And she waited.

*HIC*

“Singultus Fix-*HIC*” She sighed and waited again.

“Singu-*HIC*” URGH. *HIC* ”Singultus Fi-*HIC*” URGHURGH. They were so anno-*HIC*.

Trying not to cry from a mix of frustration and a pain, the twelve year old sat up straighter and after waiting for her next *HIC* instantly tried again. ”Singultus Fixus!” She managed to tap her wand at herself and then she waited - did it work??

Tessa decided to leave it a mystery. She was at least sure that it wasn't the real Max. "Uh....okay." She tried to mimic his word choices. Was it weird to think 'he'.....what if it was Zoryn or Faith? Hmm. Never mind. They were both Max right now and that was what mattered.

She briefly wondered whether doing the leapfrog one would get them in more trouble for, like, embarrassing Max or something buuuuuuut it was Professor Dopple's request, so......

Józef was trying desperately to mask his un-Max like assignment as he wandered to a spot near the edge of the classroom that had less desks in it, but it was difficult because it wasn't every day you got to play leapfrog in a class whilst being someone else with someone else being someone else. Or with the person you were being.

It really hurt his brain to wonder if his partner was the real Max, and so he didn't. After a couple more loud hiccups, he took up the leap frog stance. "You-" HIC- "-first." -UP.

"Now, for our last activity I want you all to practice the incantation and wand movement and then help someone else get rid of their hiccups. Of course, if you wish to work alone, that's just fine. Now -- the wand movement!" Dolly lifted her wand and then did the quickest little tap in the air. "It's quite simple, just lift your wand and pretend like you are going to tap the person on the nose. Just a quick little tap. But don't actually touch them - that could be quite dangerous." Maybe. Perhaps. Who knew.

Dolly tucked her wand away again. "Alright everyone! Get to work! Practice your spells and get rid of those hiccups!" Oh, weren't they so glad for her help?!

So the leapfrog was never going to work? Józef pulled what he thought was a very Max-esque unimpressed look at the fact that he'd just spent time doing something POINTLESS even if he really didn't care. It wasn't like it was writing lines or something boring, really. He found it very difficult to focus on what Professor Dopple was saying next, though - easily distracted at the best of times, Jó was having much more fun watching the other students around them hiccuping.

And, you know, hiccuping himself.

When she'd finished speaking, he took a look at the board in a squinting manner and then nudged the other Max stood with him. "Are we just casting the spell on ourselves or something?" Because that sounded like a particularly boring way to end the lesson.

Abra knew it. He kneeeeeew it. He knew that there was no shifting magical hiccoughs with muggle tricks; and to think, had he verbalised his thoughts he might have been looking at ten points for himself. He supposed that was what was meant by 'nothing ventured, nothing gained'.

"HIC."

Again, Abra was relying on what Dopple said to them rather than what was written on the board, though in all honesty, neither option was a very good one. His memory was not the best.

"Singultus Fixus," he mumbled to himself as soon as the professor told them the spell, to stop himself from forgetting it. "Sing-HIC-ultus Fixus. Singultus Fixus." And a tap-on-the-nose-but-with-no-actual-touching. Right, he could remember that, sure.

As soon as they were given the go ahead to practice, Abra repeated the incantation back to himself again, only at normal speaking volume this time. "Singultus Fixus. Sin-GUL-tuss FIX-uss. Singultus Fixus." As for the wand movement, he hesitated at first, because he didn't know whether to act as though he was about to cast on another person, or himself.

So he opted for both. First he made as though he was almost about to tap the invisible nose of an invisible friend beside him, and then he did the same to himself. All bases covered.

"HIC."

Merlin, was he ever ready to get rid of these hiccoughs.

Malachi couldn’t help but chuckle before he does the process again, more precisely this time. "Tr*hiccup*try it on me."

Spiders were darling things and not remotely frightening to Chloe, but she was willing to put on a show for Hanna's sake. At the sight of the clever little parchment 'spider', Chloe shrieked and grinned and grasped her chest. OH HEAVENS OH DEAR OH NO. "Oh, I think maybe that... HIC. Not quite. But good effort."

They were moving on quickly, then, and Chloe gave the professor her full attention. Cute little lady, if not a little unusual. And a dead useful spell, if they were being fair. Perhaps hiccups weren't the most annoying thing in the world to Chloe, but they were well up on the list of annoyances, plus knowing a spell like this meant that Chloe could relieve people of their own annoyances and pain should the opportunity arise.

She turned to young Hanna again and pitched the spider back in the girl's direction. "You can practice on me. Singultus fixus, and all that."

*HIIICCCUPP*

Valencia's body visibly spasmed with the noise. She made a face as she regained her senses. Had she mentioned before how much she was not a fan of forced reflexes. She very much liked to be in control of her own body.

She tried the wand movement a few more times. She wanted to be able to do it properly before using the incantation.

And possibly figure out the timing of these -- *HIIIC* -- hiccups, so she doesn't end up poking out her eye.

"Singultus Fixus," Torii said again, still getting a feel for the spell. The wand movement wasn't that difficult either. Torii practicing tapping the air as she said the incantation. "Singultus Fixus," she said, pairing it with a tap. Seeing as the tapping part was really just a piece of cake, Torii turned back to her partner.

"Okay, I think I have it now. Want me to see if I can get rid of your hiccups?" she asked Gunnar. Oh, and...she'd love for him to get rid of hers, too. Which brought her to wonder, exactly how did this work if you were all by yourself and needed a cure for magically induced hiccups? She imagined trying to tap yourself on the nose with your own wand wasn't very easy.

"How are you coming along with the spell? Think you can get rid of mine?" she asked.

*hiccup*

Aaaaand it was gone. Pheeeww, Kaira let out a HUGE sigh of relief! All was well again. She had never appreciated lack of hiccups before and if anything, it made her extremely thankful for the times she had no hiccups.

She tapped his nose with her wand and said the incantation : 'Singultus Fixus' And waited.
