Dolly Dopple 01-08-2019 04:35 AM

Charms Lesson 1

It was a BRIGHT and SHINY, WONDERFUL, MARVELOUS, SPECTACULAR, DELICIOUS day. The sun was out (even though it was cold) and the charms classroom was about 500 degrees, just like old Dolly Dopple liked it. Nice and roasty toasty.

After opening the door to the classroom, Dolly stood at the front of the classroom, fingers eagerly twiddling in front of her chest, an excited wrinkly smile on her face. The classroom was set up like a normal classroom with a few colourful ribbon streamers draping across the ceiling to give some flare. On the corner of the table in front of Dolly sat a scraggly, patchy-furred kneazle that looked mostly dead. Was it actually dead? Did it just blink? No, it had to be dead...

On each of the desks sit a small cup of clear, unscented liquid and a piece of paper. On the board, a simple set of instructions is written in wiggly, unkempt handwriting:
Write your name in BIG letters on your paper and fold it in half to make a table tent.

Class progression:
1. Greetings, first question
2. Responses, second question
3. Responses, mini activity
4. Spell, main activity

Mark wasn't sure there would be anyone who looked as old as his Great Grandmother but this woman was making it a competition in his eyes. Would it be really rude to ask her age? He just needed a number for better comparison. No don't that would be an awful horrible idea. Maybe someone else will ask it, maybe she'll give a hint at her age?

Right anyways. This classroom felt so hot like it was Disney World in the summer or somewhere equally as hot. That kneazle looked like it might actually be cooking. "Hello, Professor." Mark gave her a small smile and went to the desks.

Mark set up camp at a desk not far from the front and took a moment to read the handwriting. No hint toward her age yet, only that old boney fingers probably couldn't hold onto chalk.

He wrote his name in block letters on the piece of paper and folded it as instructed.

Torii still didn't know what to think about Professor Dopple. From what she could tell, the lady was the firstborn child of sunshine and rainbows...or something. She honestly didn't seem to have an unhappy bone in her body, and that both comforted and terrified Torii.

The fourth year stepped into the room and was immediately greeted with the stuffiness of a way-too-hot room. DEAR MERLIN. She was already shuffling around trying to remove her jacket as she looked up at the lady before her. "Hello, Professor Dopple," she said, making her way into the room. The professor looked like she was about to burst into flames of energy over this very class, but her kneazle looked like it had seen a better day. Poor thing.

Torii took a seat and set to work making her name tag. Or table tent. Whatever Dopple was calling it. She wrote her name as big as she could, just like the professor asked. Whatever makes her happ...ier.

Daisy entered the classroom, feeling slightly apprehensive. Professor Marchand had helped her cope with so much and now he was gone. However, she was going to show this new Charms professor respect as she smiled and said, "Hello, Professor Dopple."

She made her way to her desk and followed Dopple's instructions, writing her name on the piece of paper and folding it to create a table tent.

Mariam was quite eager to make her way to their charms lesson. There might have even been a little spring in her step, however small it may have been. Although, her steps faltered rather suddenly as she stepped into the classroom, a look of utter surprise crossing her face. Was this classroom always this hot?

Peeling off her sweater, she moved to one of the... middle desks towards the side, a bit more hesitant than before. For one, it was like death in here so that was a certain no for her, and two, there was death sitting at the front of the classroom. Not the professor, goodness no, but whatever it was that was on the desk. Hmm. Might as well busy herself with those instructions.

Ohhh amazing! Bel was ALL about the nice warm classroom. She walked in and immediately took a moment to bask in it.

"G'day professor!" Bel was EXCITED for a brand new professor. Not that she had any issue with Professor Marchand personally, it was more the CHARMS bit that was problematic for her, and maybe it was wishful thinking but if a new professor could somehow make one of her hardest subjects stick then that would be bonza! She had special permission to continue with Charms. And Transfiguration. And Defense Against the Dark Arts. The wandwork subjects basically. After having got only Ps on all her OWLs for those, maybe she should've just chucked it all in and given up. It was just that after all that Inferi business the term before last, she kind of felt that giving up was not the best of ideas. If she could learn a bit more, maybe just get some more of the basics under control, then at least she could finish school knowing she'd tried and done her best. She had better sit down yeah? Bel glanced around and then bagsed herself an empty spot, saving one seat for Derfael and then turning her attention to the instructions, the paper, the.... water? And also the kneazle. It was cute in an unfortunate kind of way.

And if she was to make a table tent, Bel felt that just a folded bit of paper wasn't QUITE enough. Carefully she tore off one thin long end of the paper and put it aside. Then she wrote her name as big as she could, and made the folded tent thing which was obviously so that the professor could see who they were. Big because of being old maybe? She had gone with just her first name, to maximize the bigness.

That done, she had the little paper name tent folded and up, hers slightly shorter than most cos of the bit she'd torn off.... which she now busied herself into making into a little paper campfire, with little paper flames. No ACTUAL fire involved -again, she didn't have the magical skill for that- but more... origami style. At least some semblance of it. Yep. That she put in 'front' of the tent at its 'entrance'. Entertaining herself and also maybe taking the tent thing a little too seriously. But still, her name was BIG on there. BEL. That was her. And definitely would be readable even to little old lady eyes right?

Noowww to bask more in the warmth. Niceeee.

It was like a heat explosion or something.

The eleven year old dramatically gasped as he entered the Charms classroom. It was REAL hot in here, not like a fake hot that they sometimes get at home in May, and Ronan looked alarmed as he glanced at the Professor first and then at the students already there, relaxing a little when he spotted Bel. If Bel was here and she wasn't worried or nuthin', then he wouldn't be either.

So... he went and sat around her area. Not next to her of course, she probably had super cool friends and stuff, but he was close enough to hear her. Cool.
RONAN EMERY WALLACE

Big enough? Ronan definitely thought so. He mimicked everyone's movements and, after a few wrong foldings, managed to get his name propped up. "Good morning Professor Dipple!" That was her name right?

siriusblackliveson 01-08-2019 10:48 AM

Patrick walked into the room about ready to die from the heat that bashed his face upon entering the class room. Good to know he shouldn’t plan on wearing layers in this class anymore.

Shrugging off his sweater and taking a seat behind Torii he greeted both her and the professor. “Hello Professor Dopple. Hi Torii” he let his voice drop to not be as loud to greet Torii. He wondered what charms would be like and what they’d learn for the day it was always interesting.

Malachi 01-08-2019 10:49 AM

Malachi walks to his next class looking around as he does before reaching the door. He nods his head in greeting to the professor before looking at the board. He tilts his head ever so slightly before going to one of the pieces of paper and writing in big letters

Malachi Mitsue

He folds the paper and puts it back on the table, waiting for the class to officially begin.

lazykitty 01-08-2019 10:49 AM

Ugh. WHY? Why was it so HOT in here?!

Seriously, it wasn't even that cold outside yet. Nothing that a sweater couldn't handle, anyway. And speaking of sweaters, she couldn't even take hers off, for decency reasons. So she was going to be stuck baking like a potato. No, wait. She actually envied the potato. At least they only had to suffer for, like, fifteen minutes. This class was going to run for an hour. "Hello, professor." Ugh, she was already sweating as she sank into her seat.

Oh, wait. She had magic. She cast a cooling charm around her body and let out an "Ah!" as it went to work. Much better.

What was this on her desk? Oh, she had to make a nameplate. Now that the paper wasn't at risk of sticking to sweaty arms, that would be easy. She quickly scrawled her name and folded the paper like so, placing it towards the front. There. Now what?

Aaaaaahhhh.

Waaaaaarmth.

Harri liked this class already. "Morning, Professor!" The young Gryffindor, who looked like she never owned a hairbrush, greeted cheerfully as she entered the classroom. Their Professor looked as old as...ew, was that a dead kneazle?

......

Well, uh, to each her own?

Making a beeline towards one of the vacant desks, she eyed the instructions on the board and wrote down her name. There.

Mary walked into the classroom, finding the simple conditions a relief the first dada lesson. No bog to swamp through, no matter of practical clothing required, an actual textbook to read through. Just a little warm, nothing else. Actually, it was very warm, but it was better than the bog, so Mary would take it.

She sat down and found the nameplate on her desk. Reading the instructions on the board, Mary scrawled her name across the tag in neat lettering

Kaira walked in for her first Charms lesson. Boy, was she excited!

She smiled at the gentle old lady who was their teacher 'Good morning Professor..how are you this morning?,' she asked, chirpily.

As she sat down, she noticed the instruction on the board. She took a paper and wrote her name-

Kaira Parker
She then folded it as instructed and waited for the class to begin.

What was this thing shining down on him from above as if the heavens had opened? It was almost unheard of at this time of the year, and yet hear it was as he walked into the classroom. With a day like this, Ewan couldn’t help but enter with a smile on his face. The sun always did that to him.

Setting himself down at a desk on his own near a window so he could still feel the sun on his skin, he pulled out his quill and books on his desk, careful not to hit over the cup of clear liquid in front of him before finally following the instructions on the board and writing his name on a piece of parchment in a some what neat and large style.

Ewan George Jones

Folding his paper carefully, he placed it on the desk in front of him before his attention finally turned to the ancient woman that lay before the class. Not wanting to seem rude, he greeted her in a warm manor “Good Morning Professor Dopple”.

klexos24 01-08-2019 01:50 PM

For Harri (& the class ofc)!

Charlie was hoping and expecting that Charms would be much less freaky-deaky than DADA. The nice-looking old lady at the front of the classroom -- she assumed she was Professor Dopple? -- reinforced that expectation. Before introducing herself to the professor and bidding her a good morning, Charlie furrowed her brow and absorbed the words scratched onto the chalkboard... BIG letters, name, paper tent. She'd done it many times before in her muggle courses, so she was feeling quite good about Charms at this point.

At this point, it was time to extend a greeting to the professor. "Good morning, professor," Charlie greeted quite positively (as much as was possible on a school-day morning). The desks were starting to fill up, so she scanned the rows quickly for one that was empty. She then spotted an empty desk beside a gryffindor first-year (Harri) she could have sworn was named Henrietta (Charlie had perfect memory, of course).

"You're, um... Henrietta, right? I'm Charlie. It's a pleasure," she stated matter-of-factly, pulling a piece of parchment out of her satchel and folding it like a hot-dog. After itching at the back of her neck, he dipped a quill from the same satchel in a pot of ink and scribbled her name on the hot-dog:

Circe on a cracker, it was hot in here....

Kolyander 01-08-2019 02:21 PM

There was a bright glorious smile on Rylee's face as she entered the Charms classroom. Was it the sun shining today, the warmth inside the room or perhaps it was the colorful streamers hanging down from the ceiling that made her so happy. Nah, it was none of these things but they sure did help keep her mood lifted sky high.

"Hello, Professor Dopple, I love the splash of color you added to the room!," Rylee chirped excited nodding her head towards the streamers. She was one of those that loved to add some color and her own style to things, like the purple ribbon that was braided into a small section of her hair today, courtesy of Anni during breakfast. Oh, lookit! There was a kitty! Hi kitty!

Smiling at everyone she found herself an empty desk and sat down taking out all her things. It was only after she had her things out that she folded the parchment on her desk in half as instructed, dipped her unicorn quill into some brightly colored ink and wrote her name nice and large across the parchment.

Quote:

PRICHARD

Sitting the parchment up nicely on her desk, she sat back on her chair, feet swinging back and forth a little bit.

The corridors were really not of an acceptable temperature, okay. It was too cold for Abra... though, really, there weren't many times it wasn't too cold for him in this country.

... Except maybe inside this classroom. Abra's face visibly changed when he entered, going from grumpy and miserable to surprised and relieved. Waaaaaaaaarm. He smiled big at the professor, taking an immediate liking to her."Hello, Professor."

Taking a seat, Abra looked automatically at the board and had to sort of... stop and stare for a moment. No... no, he couldn't read that handwriting, and he wasn't even going to try. Instead, he glanced around to see what everyone else was doing, and his eyes landed on Bel, with her big old name tag thingy right in front of her. Others had done the same, so Abra went ahead and assumed that was what the paper on the desk was for. He got his quill and ink out from his bag, and followed suit.

When he was done, and the paper folded and on his desk, Abra looked up and his eyes fell on the... the... was that a dead kneazle? Like, a literal dead kneazle, not the wrockstar kind? No... it couldn't be... it was surely alive, right? ... Abra stared steadily at it for a while, as though to make absolutely sure.

oh its Erik ok 01-08-2019 03:09 PM

It was way to hot in here to even think about charms or even doing magic with any sense of focus. Yet here first year Igor Vitvinin was walking into the hot classroom. He smile at Professor Dopple before his attention went to her desk and uh...kneazle that didn't look like it was breathing...maybe it was just napping. Yeah lets go with that.

He took a seat somewhere and looked at the board. Easy enough

and fold it in half he does.

Walking into the charms classroom, the furious heatwave hit Steph in the face and she stepped back. Holy merlin, why was it like a desert in here? "Hello professor," the redhead smiled and headed towards a desk. But not before writing her name down in large letters for the professor.

https://k.nickpic.host/BAY1lD.png

That was big enough right? Her name was kind of long so she didn't have much space to make it bigger. Plus, was the heat safe for that kneazle? Maybe it's had a heat stroke already.. Anyway. Folding the paper into a a tent, Steph set it on her desk and proceeded to put her hair up in a high, messy bun. At least her hoops earrings wouldn't keep getting caught in her hair now.

Had Indigo just walked into an oven? No, that was just how the charms classroom was, apparently. And there was the new charms professor in the front of the classroom. How old was she anyway? Like 200? Honestly, Indigo wouldn't be surprised. Hello professor," he greeted politely before going to take a seat. None of his friends were there yet so he sat by himself, though he wasn't bothered by that at all. As soon as he sat down he busied himself by writing his name on the piece of paper at his desk. When that was all set up he started absentmindedly doodling on the back.

First day of Charms class...

One of her favorite classes here at Hogwarts, although when she walked into the room she looked around and frowned a bit. The man who helped her through so much and was so kind was no longer here. Although she knew he was just a letter away it felt a bit weird not greeting him in this classroom. But none the less, Stella was going to show the same respect and kindness. "Hello Professor, lovely day isn't it?" Seeing Rylee and Abra she smiled and waved at them. Ah... there was Kaira, she smiled and waved at her as well.

Taking her seat she gotten out her quill and parchment and wrote her name as big as she could. She wasn't the type of person who wrote big so it was a bit weird fod her. Doing as she instructed she sat it in front of her and waited for class to start.

If there was one subject that Vita felt absolutely confident in, it was charms. She loved the art of wand movements and the way an incantation said correctly could bring magic to life right before your eyes. She was also hoping someone as ancient seasoned as Professor Dopple would have an abundance of wisdom to share on the subject and she was eager to soak it all in.

....That is if she could stay awake in this classroom. Holy hippogriffs, it was warm! The hot air hit her like a ton of bricks and weighed her down in a way that she found uncomfortable. Surely this environment wasn't conducive to learning. Hm...

"Hello Professor," She managed a polite smile as she passed by the older woman, wondering if perhaps the reason the kneazle seemed to no longer be with them was because of an unfortunate overheating incident. Was she next? Was anyone else feeling sleepy?

She sure was.

Settling into a seat, she busied herself with making a paper tent for her name and then scribbled it down in extra large letters for all to see.

Charms were one of the only things he was actually good at. That and eating a plate full of mashed potatoes in a flash. BUT ever since their new Charms professor had been introduced at the infamous start-of-term feast, Max was feeling a little..... bleh. She was just so ........... old.

Max gave the ancient old woman an uneasy look on his way past to find an empty desk. Super old people gave him the heebie jeebies. She looked like she was a few days away from becoming one of the ghosts roaming the corridors.

After checking out the blackboard and what everyone else was doing, Max scribbled out his name, folded it and propped it up for the woman to see. Nice and big for her deteriorating eyeballs.

When that was done, he tugged at his collar a little. Was it just him or was it baking in here?

Well, it was time for another class, but this time Chloe was feeling a bit sad. One of her favorite professors wouldn't be teaching it to her anymore, though the new professor seemed super cute and sweet, even if she was old. Walking into the room she looked around. It was different then she was used to and hot, so hot, why was it so hot?

Already fanning herself with her hand she wondered if she could maybe take her robes off so it would at least just be her uniform. Though she didn't want to be the first to ask about it, for now she would keep her questions in her head.

"Hello Professor, how are you today?"

Happy she could actually talk to them again without them speaking first Chloe spotted the Kneazle. "Oh your Kneazle is lovely, what is its name?" It looked old though, so maybe it liked to be left alone.

Finally finding her seat she took the parchment and wrote her name.

Caolan had thought long and hard about what lessons he wanted to focus his attention on and which ones he wanted to sacrifice. He had a year to learn absolutely everything he needed for his OWL’s and let’s be honest that just wasn’t doable. Charms sounded an alright subject but probably wouldn’t be one of his favourites but here he was turning up a few minutes before the lesson started ready and somewhat willing to learn.

He entered the classroom giving the professor a small smile and nod in greet and took a seat somewhere in the middle glancing around to see whether there was anyone he recognised. Nope. He eyed what looked like a weird stuffed cat that was perched on the professors desk and wrinkled his nose. Was that necessary? His eyes moved to the board where the first lesson instructions were written. Name tags. How muggle. He scrawled his name in big enough handwriting for the old lady to read.

Caolan Wilson.

He hated writing down his name rather than pronouncing it. Everybody got it wrong, he’d heard them all. His personal favourite was Ka-oo-lan which was so wrong it made him chuckle every time someone said it. It worked both ways though, if he’d had a pound for every time he’d received Christmas cards from classmates who would spell his name incorrectly he would’ve been able to afford the football team he supported’s new kit by now.

He slumped in his seat and waited for the lesson to start.
