Office of Senior Undersecretary January Bones

As you walk into the Senior Undersecretary's office, you'll find a very neat and tidy workplace. Most of the decor is white and gray with a few pops of Spring colors here and there. The bookshelves are filled with books of all genres with a few occasional sculptures, vases and other figurines. The room smells of fresh linens and flowers and rests at comfortable 68 degrees Fahrenheit.

The desk of the Senior Undersecretary is very clean and organized. Files are in their right place, pens and other accessories are put away unless they are in use. On the corner of her desk is a family photo of January, her husband, Ludovicus Bones and their daughter of almost eight, Louise.

There are small gray couches with puffy throw pillows along the windows to sit on in less formal settings. In front of her desk, there are two padded wooden chairs for guests to sit at. A tea set sits to the side of her desk. Behind the desk and to the side lies a large and very organized file cabinet.

If the door is closed, just knock and wait for an answer. Otherwise, let yourself in to meet with January!

Foster approached the office of Mrs. Bones just after arriving that morning. He had realized that he had not signed up for a meeting with her, as she had requested, and he was going to remedy his failure to comply at once. Unsure of where the sign-up sheet was located, he glanced to the left and right of the doorway, then raised his hand to knock.

After three knocks, he stood and waited to see if she was in. It would be just his luck to have arrived when she was out of the office, further delaying what he should have done weeks ago.

January liked to start her work early, so she had already been in her office for a bit, but had left the door shut to focus. She didn't mind the interruption though, because it was just about time for her to get up and stretch her legs and get her blood flowing again. "Come in!" she called out as she finished up writing a note in a certain file.

Then she looked up to see who would enter. Charles usually entered without knocking, so it was probably someone else on the level. There were a still a few she had wanted to talk to...

Foster smiled softly at the sound of Mrs. Bones answering his knock. Of course she was already in the office. It was the Ministry and he was no longer dealing with youngsters. After smoothing out his robes one last time, Foster turned the handle, pushed the door open, and entered her office.

"Good morning, Mrs. Bones. It's a pleasure to see you this fine day." Foster walked towards her desk and held out his hand to shake hers. "I do apologize for not visiting you sooner. I had some family matters back in the States that delayed my arrival a few days longer than expected." Sadly he had missed the employee picnic, arriving the day after, and had only heard bits and pieces about what had occurred.

The majority of the ministry was working on the upcoming Quidditch World Cup, but he hadn't involved himself with any of those tasks yet. He was far more concerned with what was rumored to be going on at Hogwarts.

Looking up, January saw one of her new hires, Foster, walk in and she gave him a warm smile. Yes, he was one of the ones she hadn't met with yet, so she was glad to see him this morning.

"It's very good to see you," she responded, standing as he entered. She gestured to one of the cushioned seats in front of her desk and then sat back down in her chair behind it. While he talked, she poured the man a cup of tea and slid it towards him. A tray with sugar and cream sat on the left corner of her desk, in reach if he needed anything for it.

Family in the States? Interesting. "That's quite alright, family is important." She would do anything for her own family, so she understood. "How are you settling into your new position?" she asked. It was important to her that all of the employees enjoyed their work.

Foster took a seat and smiled softly at the sight of tea. "Thank you," he said as he took the cup and lifted it close to his face, letting the seam rise up as he took a breath in. After taking a sip he placed the cup back in front of him. "I'm quite happy here and starting to feel accustomed with the new routine." He leaned forward slightly, "I am a bit concerned with what is going on at Hogwarts right now. There appears to be some sort of infestation and I hope it doesn't pull too much attention away from the students' educations." After the previous year's troubles, they needed to be back on track.

"Most of the Ministry seems to be consumed with Quidditch World Cup preparation. I'm happy to take on any extra responsibilities that may help you with the added work this must be causing." He wasn't exactly sure what that would be, but he knew that staff from every department was working overtime trying to get things ready for the big event.

She simply smiled at his thank you, nodded, and took a sip from her own tea cup. Ah, yes, the infestation of... weird furry mutants. Since Foster was close to Hogwarts, January understood his concern and she sat up a little to address it. "I understand your concern, and appreciate it." Sometimes people in the Ministry forgot that they worked so closely with the school.

It was true, there was a lot of buzz about the World Cup at the moment, but truthfully, it helped distract from the chaos happening at Hogwarts. "I'm sure when this all settles you'll have a bit of work to do to help students prepare for University," she said, knowing that there would be a few who felt behind or perhaps unprepared. "But until then, if I think of anything that you may be able to help with, I'll certainly let you know." It was very kind of him to offer. And it wasn't the first time anyone had offered, either.

He was glad she didn't accuse him of being overly concerned for the students. He knew so many of them personally that he wanted to make sure each and every one was well taken care of. "Of course. I'm happy to help them prepare for University." He nodded at her next words. "Well, please do let me know. I am here to help."

He slid his chair back a bit and stood. "Thank you for meeting with me. It was a pleasure to chat with you this morning. I better get back to work. Thank you for the tea, it was lovely." He gave her another smile before slowly backing towards the door. He was fairly certain she had better things to do than chat with him. After the Quidditch World Cup was over, there would be plenty of chatting time.

She offered him a smile and nodded, sipping her tea again. She appreciated employees that were always trying to help and improve, so she appreciated him. "Thank you, I'll be sure to keep you in the loop." They could probably lose his help, especially when it came to university things.

January was slightly surprised when he stood, ready to leave. It was a short meeting, but sometimes that was best. She appreciated him coming in and she was sure they both had important things to do. January smiled at him again. "You're welcome anytime, Foster. Thank you for coming by." She then watched him walk out the door and then returned to the work on her desk.
