Would she miss a big party?

Never, even if it was a stuffy Ministry event. After the last one, Zita said she'd never step foot in another event that was held by that minister, but here she was. She had been asked and she wasn't going to say no to Adam. It had been a little over a year since they had started their friendship or more than friendship?

Either way, she wasn't going to miss this, especially since she got to dress up and look really good. Knowing her outfit, makeup, and hair was on point she had put on the highest of heels and headed to the ministry. Stepping into the building she felt her stomach turn but reminded herself she wouldn't be going anywhere near that horrible department. No, tonight they would be staying in this fancy looking area and she was more than fine with that.

Not seeing Adam at first she walked through the crowd until she spotted him with a pretty girl (Mariana). If there was one thing Zita was it was the possessive type. Her heels clicked as she made her way over, "I can take it from here." Placing a hand on his arm she smiled tightly at the woman. "Adam I've been looking for you."

Another ministry event and another evening to be spent reminded of past times. Victoria walked into the event and stopped from the breathtaking look the other department heads had done. With everything that had gone on with her family, she felt bad for not being as available this break, but family came first and her daughters were still grieving their nephew. So her time with them was precious and she was glad she had done it. If she was being honest with herself though, she was glad to be back and glad the ministry was open. All she knew was work and it was what kept her going.

So, for now, she headed into the crowd to look around. She knew the silent auction had her name, but she assumed she would not be one of the Department Heads that would get many bids unless it was a sports fan wanting to see behind the scenes.

So many people were there, but one person stood out in the crowd and Victoria felt herself smiling. She smoothed out her dress without thinking and headed over, "Good evening minister, this is a very lovely party you are hosting."

The exchange did not slip by the Minister, nor did certain embellishments and despite how he had addressed the subject with Conley prior...he WAS a bit chuffed that he had not been informed! He was allowed to be a bit of a contradiction, came with the territory of being a Gryffindor and Minister for Magic. As well as a human. "Thank you. January truly knows how to whip people in to shape when it comes to these sorts of matters." And how to scale back because, well, Charles was always one to go a bit overboard when it came to parties. Something that had paid off for the World Cup but they had to maintain a budget, after all. "All possible because of the outstanding team of department heads we have running the country, wouldn't you say?" he chuckled while giving the man's shoulder another firm squeeze before his attention shifted to Miss Swan and he offered her a handshake.

"Games and Sports, if I am not mistaken?" Her application had stood out just a little because his granddaughter belonged to the house of Hufflepuff and was always writing him lengthy letters (of which he always memorized in their entirety) regarding her housemates. "You're in positively outstanding hands there. I personally guarantee it."

There was a bit of a mischievous wink tagged on to the end of that sentence as well.

"Ah, Miss Baines!" he chuckled at that OUTSTANDING greeting. Were this not a formal event he would have, perhaps, enveloped the young lady in a bit of a hug but...he was trying to be on more professional behavior. "I am QUITE well if I do say so myself. Placed your bids yet? Hmm? Hopefully nothing that outbids myself." Wink wink, nudge nudge.

And then Charles' keen blues fell on one Mr. Kim - a young man he knew far too well without having ever met the boy personally outside of the interview process thanks to the escapades of his precious peace of a daughter during her Hogwarts days. "AH! MR. KIM! Good to see you my, boy! Certainly looking forward to seeing what diligence you bring to the Minister's Office!" he greeted jovially.

His smile subtly widened upon Victoria's arrival. "Ah, Victoria. I had just been praising to to one of your new employees. A Miss Swan," he mused while glancing around for that same young lady. "Can I tempt you with a drink?" he inquired as he offered his arm. "I think I saw something with raspberries floating in a bit of bubbly and it looked particularly tantalizing."

Airey truly wasn't sure what to bid on, though he could see Andromeda enjoying the paintings in particular. She was such a gifted child. A TRUE Flamsteed in that right and so curious. He had not yet decided what to do on his own "date" - figured he would sort all that out when he saw who it was to come up with something fitting - but the thought of them winning an opportunity to babysit his terrific trio was quite tempting.

His thoughts were ironic considering the question posed to him by Miss Cambridge.

"This is not my first time up for auction, Miss Cambridge," he mussed as he turned from the tables to look at her. "Or have you forgotten the fundraiser held at Hogwarts? You were...a second or third year, I believe." The years all blended together after a while. "Our Minister has never been anything but a man of his word, I would consider it quite like an ionic bond and you the Carbon to parchment's Oxygen. Best you can hope for is that no one bids on you...though then that would be a true shame for the fundraiser. A true Kobayashi Maru training exercise."

James Summers was HERE. Though he wasn't sure WHY he was here. He didn't care for politics and Hogwarts hadn't exactly steered him in any good direction. But his publicist and stylist had spent the past few hours fitting him in his all black suit and tie with a smart pair of sleek black shoes that likely cost most than the family farm. Such was the life of being a famous model.

His latest campaign was going well and he had heard that all his individual poster prints were sold out in most markets. It inflated his head just a bit to think about all the doors, walls, and ceilings he was on all across Europe.

The man bun was gone for the evening, a choice from his stylist rather than himself because he had grown rather fond of the low man bun, and his hair was looking particularly silky. Something he had to remember to address whenever someone commented on it. He was a walking branding machine for the evening with set phrases to say with regards to his tailored suit, perfect blonde locks, and snazzy shoes.

Grabbing himself a drink as he effortlessly wove through the crowd - this was nothing compared to the launch parties of Berlin and Paris - James strut his much more polished runway strut through the Atrium without a worry about the budget for the auction he had been allotted. He wasn't so good with numbers and, really, his manager had been foolish to entrust any sort of funds with him.

It was mid-strut that he spotted....Zita? With her arm on some other bloke? Some other older bloke. Bloody hell...it was happening all over again. Though this bloke he felt he could probably take down if push came to shove. Getting pummeled to a pulp over the same girl was, hopefully, a one time occurrence.

Staring, a bit unabashedly, for a few moments at her...he casually and totally TOTALLY breezily took a LONG sip from whatever it was he had grabbed and slipped his free hand into his pocket...and then stepped up to this little HOMEY looking trio.

"Take it where, Zita?" he asked caaaaaasually, taking yet another sip as his eyes glared glanced at this chum and then over to the other woman (Mariana) Zita was being quick to dismiss. "You're looking stunning this evening, as usually." He was speaking to Zita and doing his best to sound posh in his tone - unpolished as he always was. "Summers. James Summers," he greeted the OTHER woman while offering his hand. "I'm a model."

The important thing is that she loved it. Duncan loved it. And Fletcher loved it, although how one would know if he was just humoring her??

She walked into the party alongside her 'boyfriend' and their son, whose hand was tightly in hers. He was not to be trusted running around freely in his father's new job shindig! "I don't remember ever coming into the ministry before," Jessa said out loud to Fletcher. Duncan already trying to break free of her grip. "Oh, look, there's a silent auction! Is this the one for poor Hogwarts?" They must go and help. Well, Fletcher. He had way more money than her, ahem. "Stop wiggling, no cake if you keep wiggling. I swear." This was to Duncan, not Fletcher. Although Fletcher WOULD lose his cake privileges if he misbehaved too.

"I wanna go see what's over there," Duncan whined, still trying to break free. He was meaning the around surrounding the dining tables and dance floor. He just wanted to see if access to the offices was available or not. No big deal. "I won't do anything, I swear! I'll just walk and look." WIGGLE WIGGLE.
To be honest, Fletcher's favorite outfits of Jessa's were the skimpiest simplest ones, but he was also easy to please. Like his longtime girlfriend, he was dressed a bit out of season today, but mostly just to match her and make her happy. And if she was happy in that white gown, then he was happy to stand next to her. If anyone asked, they could say they just got back from holiday in the southern hemisphere, like uh, Australia, where it was summertime.

"Me either, except for that interview," Fletcher replied to Jessa, wearing a bit of a bewildered expression as he looked around this place. He was kind of smiling, but also kind of cringing. Had he ever pictured himself working here? Ever? In all his days?

No, but to become Minister for Magic, one had to start somewhere.

He glanced over at his kid and pulled a hand out of his pocket to ruffle the boy's hair, and then smooth down his own. He needed a haircut before the workweek started. "Come on, Dunk," he chuckled at his kid. "You and I both know you haven't learned how to look with your eyes and not your hands yet." But maybe they could all go look at the 'poor Hogwarts,' auction together? Fletcher moved his hand to the small of Jessa's back and started guiding her that way.

Along the way, Fletcher kept a cool eye out for anyone who looked at least as hot important as him, and took note of an attractive blonde bombshell (Zita), another bombshell in a well-fitting white dress (Megan) and then, finally, Fletcher noticed the Minister. "Look!" he declared, now feeling like Duncan Jr. as he made a beeline for the Minister's general area. "The man of the century!" Heh, geddit?

”Oh she certainly does Sir,” Conley agreed about January. He didn’t think that she cared for him much and frankly the feeling was mutual. Perhaps he just hadn’t gotten to know her, but frankly, he got the impression she didn’t want to get to know him. So in true circling fashion, Conley tried to avoid her as much as possible.

The squeeze to his shoulders was a bit harsh this time around and Conley had to restrain himself from shrugging the man off. Dealing with Charles was like dealing with your grandmother who liked to pinch your cheeks and leave a big lip-stick stained kiss. If you let him be, he often got distracted and moved on to another victim person.

”Ah, that’s a fun department." Conley offered up to Daisy. Not that he really knew too much about that department. Not his field of expertise. " I imagine you’ll be quite busy this year with mascot tryouts and that new broom hitting the market. I also believe there was another petition submitted for allowing magic carpet racing.” At least one had passed across his desk recently, sent along from one of the ambassadors. He’d of course forwarded it to G&S, but with the way things hadn’t been working around the ministry lately, Conley wouldn’t be surprised it if never arrived.

”The bowling tournament was a lot of fun. I particularly enjoyed it.” he said to Daisy. Trying to steer the conversation away from work. ”Do you bowl?”

"I'm afraid that's on the other side of the room. It looks like the actual meal is being served to everyone at the round tables, and there seems to be a dessert buffet if you'd like to help yourself to any of that." She eyed him for a moment, wondering if that had been too much information. "Just past the dance floor and you'll find what you're looking for."

Other…side…of the…room…. Adam fought down the urge to groan. Especially at the words ‘dance floor.’ How the heck was he going to navigate his way through that?! ”Oh…alright. Dankeschön...Fräulein -?“ After learning her name, perhaps she'd be so kind as to lead show him the way there. Or perhaps he should just find a table and –

The sound of clicking distracted him as did the hand on his arm. Adam’s hands scrambled for the big coke-bottle glasses. He truly hadn’t expected Zita to come to the party. She hadn’t yet seen him those terrible, horrible bug glasses and this was not how he wanted to introduce them. Not when he looked so smart in his green suit. And yes, he did notice Zita’s tone towards the young lady. He just wasn’t sure to what to make of it. ”Sita… I – “

He was cut off by the arrival of yet another person. This time male. A male who apparently knew Zita. Adam wasn’t sure how he felt about that but did know that he didn’t’ like the way this James was talking to Zita or the woman who was kind enough to help him before Zita arrived. Because, frankly, he sounded like a big jerk. Adam folded the glasses up and stuffed them into a jacket pocket. He clearly couldn’t see the man (to Adam he was a big blurry blob), but he tucked Zita’s hand into the crook of his arm and kept his hand over hers. Should he say something? He "glanced" at Zita. Perhaps it was better to let her take the lead here.

She decided she would keep socialising to a minimum though, with a few talks now and again; she didn't want to come across as rude. She slipped into the atrium in a sparkly red dress that reached her ankles. She wore a white belt at her waist and beautiful white shoes to match.

She noticed the bidding and immediately took a form and filled it in. She was the kind of person that loved these stuff. She bidded for a lot of the things on the form. Once she was done, she slipped the form into the enchanted box. After that, she decided to walk around a bit. She kept to the outskirts of the room. Because she was not looking at where she was going, she ended up bumping into someone (Ryder) who seemingly had the same mindset of not wanting to be here. "Es tut-", she started off in German, and then realised that this was the British Ministry of Magic. She quickly added, "I'm so zorry." Her German accent appeared a bit there as she was speaking.

Ryder was in the midst of mindlessly swirling his champagne around in his glass when out of the corner of his eye, he saw a blur of sparkly red. He barely had time to step away before the woman bumped into him. He spun around, instinctively throwing his free arm out to steady her. Now that would be a good first impression. Knocking a woman to the ground on his very first Ministry appearance. As soon as he was sure she wouldn't fall, he quickly slid his arm back to his side. Slightly awkward, he supposed, but what was he supposed to do? Let her fall to the ground?

Surprisingly, her voice carried a heavy accent. Was that German he detected? "It's quite alright," he reassured her with a charming smile. "Just be glad you didn't knock over my champagne. If that was the case, I don't know if I would have been so forgiving." Not true, as he didn't even really like champagne, but it made for easy conversation. Sure, he might not necessarily enjoy large social gatherings, but it didn't mean he couldn't use his surprisingly stellar socialization skills if necessary. He extended his hand to the woman in greeting. "I'm Ryder. And I'm new here, if you couldn't tell by my bewildered expression and my apparent propensity to stand in the corner by myself."

SPOILER!!: Valentin

As the young man had passed, Vale couldn’t help but notice his handsome features looked a bit dour. ” Zumone to dance wiv?” he waved his empty hand towards the dance floor. Valentin was, by nature a shameless flirt. It of course, only made things more amusing to him that the gentleman he was bantering with looked a little bit uncomfortable in this environment.

Okay, now this was a situation that Ryder Medina didn't quite know how to handle. It was rare that he was socially stumped - he could usually come up with a witty remark to at least get by. How were you to politely tell someone that you weren't quite interested in that gender? Not that he had any problems with that. He knew and supported plenty of people with different orientations. It was just that women were more his cup of tea. "Er, no. No escort for me tonight," he said with a light laugh, slightly perplexed by this man's forwardness. And the term escort? Is that what the French called dates? Ryder looked down at his champagne, racking his brain for a polite response to this....proposition. Glancing next to him to where Katrina was still standing, he suddenly had an idea. "I appreciate the offer, sir, but I already promised her my next dance." He extended his arm out to the woman, giving her a knowing look as if to say, Please, for Merlin's sake, just play along!.

Silly problem to have really. “The desserts really do look amazing! I’m more of a chocolate fountain gal myself though. Just give me some strawberries with it and I’ll be busy all night”. Desserts really were the best type of food really.

Casting a quick glance around, she couldn’t help but notice the room was beginning to fill up now as more and more witches and wizards filled the atrium. Quashing the feeling of intimidation that was gradually building in her, she had finally decided to treat herself and bid for something in the auction. Next question…what should she bid for or rather, what can she afford? “Are you girls going to bid on anything?” she asked to the two lovely women standing by her (Grae and Alba).

Alba wondered how many departments there were in the ministry.

"Not sure if I'll bid, I don't have much Wizard gold on me, I have to exchange my muggle money." Alba added, thinking it was going to be strange to be carrying galleons, sickles, and knuts again, rather than pounds. "But the auction does look like fun." She added.

Ah, two nice ladies from the Minister's Office. It was refreshing to meet some new faces. Grae seemed to have only really met other employees from the middle levels in the past. "You can't go wrong with strawberries, that's for sure," she chimed in, thinking of her grandmother's famous strawberry shortcake. She could definitely go for a slice of that right now. Or perhaps a butterbeer. One thing was for sure - the piece of toast she'd eaten right before she ran out the door for the celebration tonight was not enough to hold her over all evening.

Grae glanced over at the auction table at Delyth's question, nodding in understanding at Alba's response. She must be a Halfblood or Muggleborn if she only had Muggle currency on hand. Grae personally loved witches and wizards with Muggle heritage. She found them fascinating, and she hadn't interacted with too many of them due to her family's pureblood heritage. She sometimes wished that she had Muggle relatives. "I can't deny that the Moontrimmer caught my eye. Those brooms are just legendary!" Grae gushed, imagining the feeling of racing through the sky on such a fancy piece of wood. "Are either of you fond of Quidditch?"

"Can I tempt you with a drink?" he inquired as he offered his arm. "I think I saw something with raspberries floating in a bit of bubbly and it looked particularly tantalizing."

Daisy smiled and shook the Minister's hand. "A pleasure to meet you, sir. I am indeed going to be working in Games and Sports in the Quidditch division in public relations. It sounds really interesting. I am looking forward to being a part of the Ministry."

When she saw her new boss Victoria, Daisy smiled and extended her hand. "It is good to meet you." Daisy then paused and couldn't help but look sadly at Victoria because she could see a resemblance to a certain Ravenclaw boy that tragically died during her final year at Hogwarts. "I apologise if I am speaking out of turn but I thought that Thaddius was an amazing student. I'm sorry for your loss."

"Being busy sounds good to me. After all, I was very studious when I attended Hogwarts despite all the incidents that occurred during my time there."

When asked if she bowled, Daisy shook her head. "No I don't. I used to play Quidditch at Hogwarts but an Inferi attack when I was in my Fourth Year stopped me from continuing that. I also don't have time to do much recreational activity. I've just moved to a place of my own so I'm still getting used to the whole living on my own thing."

There were a lot of things for bidding. Some he found quite interesting, some quite odd and some are rather questionable. Nevertheless, the money will go to a good cause.... this he assumed. Jonathan looked at the man beside him once more, he was a bit quiet... mostly reserved. He looked like he's indifferent about the auction. Then again, Jonathan ca relate to that.

He's also not the mingle type of person, despite him trying a lot and because he is has been recently hired he barely knows the people here.

Jonathan smiled and shook his head "Not really..." he said to the man. "I'm still thinking about it" he shrugged. Who knows maybe he might change his mind later. "I'm Jonathan" he introduced himself and offered his right hand for a shake. "i work in level one" they could be in the same department.

Slipping his left hand into his packet as his eyes roamed around for people he might know. He knows Alexa-- technically they've never talked but she's a familiar face.Speaking of someone familiar names when he was still going to school, Mr. Hollingberry. Of course, that last name definitely rang the most bell. Jonathan has heard stories about him before (mainly from his daughter) and is just as convivial as his daughter described back then.

Anyway, Jonathan walks forward to meet his new boss, stretching his arm a bit for a handshake "looking dashing are we, Minister Hollingberry and thanks for hiring me" yes, indeed. Jonathan smiled as his eyes gazed at his white ensemble. It does look nice on him. "How's your vacation, sir?" he asked.

It had been difficult choosing which of his owls would accompany him this evening, Nuria was out of the question given her recent and somewhat erratic behavior, but ultimate he had elected to go with Furmgoat due to his coloring being the sort to match his suit's aesthetic. That and the tawny owl was the most well trained as long he kept the treats coming - which he had a pocket full of. He was actually hoping to have a word with the new Creatures head...if he could find them around here.

Would probably help if he knew who he was looking for and what they looked like. He probably should have read the Prophet for this sort of thing. The paper came through the Owl Post daily so it was not as though the opportunity were not there or anything.

Twisting some of his brown curls around his finger, Zachaël wanted to just hang around the perimeters and not engage like he usually did at these sorts of stuffy formal functions...but he would probably drive himself mad doing so. So, after grabbing himself a juice of some sort and giving the owl on his shoulder another treat to placate his temperament, the shop owner took a breath and approached the closest group...who happened to be discussing the auction. Well, that was...somewhat of an easy in for him with conversation then seeing as he had two items on the list.

"Evening and salutations," he greeted with a nod of the head while he removed the hand from his hair to stroked the tawny owl's chest lovingly while his bright blue eyes danced between the three ladies. "I cannot say that I know much in the way of brooms." Read: he knew absolutely nothing about brooms unless they were the sort used for sleeping. "But I hear that the stationary set being offered up are truly a one of a kind product."

Alba was starting to feel a bit overwhelmed, there were people everyone where, so many people, so many wands out and about, again not something she was used to. And then a gentleman with an owl on his arm joined them. "Well hello Sir." She added with a smile, he said something about brooms??? "I know nothing of brooms." She added, "My feet stay firming on the ground" Whew ... not that was out of the way. "I do like stationary though." Alba added turning around to see if she could find the item. "What's your owl's name?" She added with a smile, she liked owls to... in fact she needed to get herself one now that she was going to be in the wizard community full time. "I'm in need of an owl." She continued ... okay .. was she babbling?????

Might she say, Fletcher looked phenomenal in that suit next to her? She loved it. If their boy wasn't being annoying already, they'd be the perfect family right now. She finally let go of Duncan, who moved to stand by his father as a sign of protest against his mother. She didn't mind as long as he was near them. Jessa walked towards the auction as her boyfriend steered her - meeting a man in a spectacular suit who turned out to be the minister?! "Yeah, it's very funny, honey." She smiled at him, a little too obvious that she actually did not find it funny. "Let's go say hi, I love his suit!" And steering the husband to his boss (?)

He lost track of where they were going, instead he was just looking for someone his own age to go and plot play with. His attention was on the man of the century, as his father called him, but he did not understand what this man did. "WOW, dad, look at what he's wearing!" Duncan mirrored his mother's fascination although with much less grace and delicacy. Also, he had to shout a little because of the music and chatter. WOW, again. This man was the best thing about this party yet! Duncan left his parents and ran towards the minister and bunch of people around them.

Delyth couldn’t help but smile as more and more people arrived, the sleek silvery dress that clung to figure becoming less and less conspicuous. Despite some early nerves, she really was beginning to enjoy herself at the party now as she met more and more of her fellow work mates.

“I am not the best of flyers. You may want to take cover if I ever get on that broom, even if it is amazing”, one of her hands now covering the rose like tinge of her cheeks. Quidditch always seemed to be a massive deal to everyone else in the wizarding world. Everyone except her that is but being raised in her house, that was not at all surprising.

What was this? Another potential friend coming to join them? And he had an owl with him too! “Maybe that stationary would come in handy for my new job!” which was completely true. With it being her first real job, she was eager to impress. Maybe making a bid on the stationary set would impress her fellow co-workers? “It’s nice to meet you by the way, I’m Delyth”.

With a little wiggle of her hips, she couldn’t help but smile as she recognised the song that was now playing throughout the atrium. Torn between the conversation with her new friends and the catchy tune that was now playing, she settled on dancing where she was, moving her body in time with the beat ever so slightly.

SPOILER!!: Ryder + Valentin drama

Katrina quickly steadied herself. Thank Merlin she wasn't wearing heels. She would've definitely fallen, and falling wasn't a great first impression, she had learnt from past experiences. She was not going to give any detail about that. "Thank you.", she said, when the man had helped her steady herself. "I wasn't looking where I was going. I do that quite a lot", she explained. She was always alone with her thoughts when she walked, and some of her thoughts were quite eccentric. "I'm Katrina. I'm new as well. What department do you work in?", she inquired, as she introduced herself. It was always nice to know more about people you just met.

Katrina noticed a man walking towards them. He had a heavy French accent, and he seemed to be flirting with Ryder. She quickly looked back at Ryder as he mentioned her, and her instincts took a while to adjust to the situation. "Wha- Oh yes, of course.", she said, playing along, "Shall we?" She took his hand and hoped that they wouldn't actually dance, because she was horrible at it. Yes, she was more worried about her terrible dancing skills than Ryder's awkwardness.

"I remember that. Second Year...yeah. That was the year we first had Mr. Vinteren." Bless that shady man who had an edge to him. Lex would've followed him around the world and back, then. She was his obvious favourite, obviously. And why wouldn't she been? She'd been a spectacular student and he'd taught her to make things explode.

Was there ever a better union? Definitely better than whatever he had with Ivy Knox.

But Airey was right. Hollingberry meant what he said--"You think I could make sure no one bid on me? Fix the boxes--not that I would." It wasn't a confession, nor was she sharing any intentions she now harboured. Noooo. Just...wishful thinking was all. "it wouldn't be the worst if that happened. I can barely babysit her." She said, gesturing vaguely to the 8 year old who had thankfully stopped pointing out the miserable obvious.

Airey was on to something though.

It had taken much pointing and insisting before Emmerson realized she was well and truly being ignored. BUT HER MOTHER'S NAME WAS RIGHT THERE. Why was she the only one who seemed to care?

Emm turned her attention up to Uncle Airey with a wrinkle of her nose. "You're talking funny again." HOW was she meant to keep up with all his star references? Were they even stars? Was that what they were talking about? She know a lot about them now. A lot for someone of her age, in her less than humble opinion. "I found Draco and Cassiopeia by myself last night." And soooomeone had to be proud of her for it. In her mind, if anyone, the starman would.

"Are you for sale? Is that what that means?" She asked pointing to the list. "Is my mummy for sale, too??" Her eyes widened to the size of saucers at this revelation. She didn't want to lose her mother.

After the lower key events of the past few years, it was a nice change of pace to have a formal event. It also meant he got to show off the girlfriend in all her glory, but shhhh. So it was with a soft smile on his face that Ronan entered the atrium, arm hooked with Archer's. Of course, he led her immediately to the dessert bar. What, a newly minted auror had to eat! Dancing and introductions could take a backseat for now.

"Is the Ministry usually so snazzy?" Archer asked as she allowed herself to pulled along. Seriously, it didn't look like a government building, or her idea of a government building at all.

Once they'd reached the dessert table, she turned to take a good look around while Ronan chose some sweets. And spotted a couple more scandalous dresses than hers. At least she could honestly say her underwear wasn't showing, right? But, damn if she didn't look good (meaning herself, of course).

While Emilia shared the details of her holiday with her family, the blond continued to fill his face (an Auror has to eat, after all) and he nodded his head at all the right moments. "Sounds like a good time." There was a brief pause as a slipped a spoon into his mouth and chewed on whatever had been scooped up. It was at this time he caught Alexa nodding at them, which he politely returned with a nod of his own.

Following a big gulp, the utensil in his hand was set on his plate. "My holiday was excellent, actually. Had a nice Christmas with the family, and then my wife went into labor on New Years Eve and we brought a little girl into the world shortly after midnight struck." At this point Frankie was beaming as he pulled out a picture from his wallet that featured the new babe, Hady, and his three other children.

"That it is." Emilia smiled, amused. Frankie seemed to be living his best life where the food was concerned and she was more than happy to continue letting him do so, taking a bite off her own plate and giving a satisfied nod of the head. It really was delicious.

A new baby! That was really all the brunette was focused on as the auror pulled a picture from his wallet and offered it up. She leaned in, her smile growing as she took in the happy family. "You've got a beautiful family," She commented, nudging him gently. "And your holiday was definitely more exciting than mine. Congratulations, really." She wondered what it'd be like to be that settled, a family at home, one you were responsible for. She couldn't quite picture herself taking something like that on at this stage in her life, but it was definitely something she hoped for in the future. Frankie's expression, alone, was enough to show how much joy it could bring to your life. "Is this your first night out since the baby was born, then?"

SPOILER!!: Adam/Zita/James

"It's Mariana and it's no problem at all." The botanist took the man's hand and offered a shake in greeting, wondering where he was from. His accent was thick, harsh around the edges, and she would've asked if it hadn't been for the woman who seemed to zero in on them. Was it just her or did the blonde look a bit like a lioness ready to pounce? Uh...

"Right, okay." Whatever was going on between these two, Mariana did not want to get in the middle of it. "It was a pleasure to meet you, Adam." Since that's what the other woman had called him. She'd just be going no-

Oh Merlin, now who was this?

Raising her eyebrows a bit, the brunette watched as the self-proclaimed model arrived to claim the lioness woman, much like she'd done to the visually impaired gentleman she'd been helping, and honestly, this was all a little amusing. Had she stumbled into a soap opera somehow and not realized it or?

Taking his hand, she offered James Summers' hand a shake, a small smile playing on her lips. "Mariana Medina. Botanist." She would have said it was nice to meet him, but the jury was still out on this little group that had formed.

Celebration or not, Simon was still on duty. It was the burden of being security, even if he did manage a little leeway as the division head overseeing the rest of his officers. His gaze followed the room keeping an eye on matters, relaxing as much as he could bring himself to do. A drink in his hand that he nursed to blend into the celebratory state of the rest of the guests. Guests like his wife who was flittering around somewhere at the moment, mingling with acquaintances and no doubt enjoying herself away from family responsibilities so he wasn’t completely a bad husband. Just had to make an appearance at her side from time to time in his wanderings.

One department head…a minister of magic…HIS department head.

Speaking of which, he was reminded on a particular auction item. Lex was bound to be one of a few completely awkward at the whole being-auctioned-off. Simon softly chuckled to himself, covering it up with a sip of his drink as he caught himself. Should be amusing.

Fletcher saw his son already starting to get loose from his mum, but kept an eye on him for now. He had his wand at the ready, primed in his holster, just in case anyone tried any funny business here. He was NOT prepared to be embarrassed in public just yet. He didn't know enough people here to play it off as funny, like his joke about the new century.

Cracking a grin toward his lady, Fletcher continued toward the Minister's general area, though he was also distracted by the auction table. Poor Hogwarts... he did still care about that place; after all, if it weren't for the Triwizard Tournament, he wouldn't be here, would he? "What should we bid on?" he murmured to Jessa as they neared the table, and then saw the minister himself. Oh great, what was Dunk on about now? Just as soon as they arrived to the important people, his kid had to get loud. Of course. "Shhhhhh," Fletcher reprimanded his son, noting just a beat too late that he was on the run... again. "'scuse me," he took off, jogging after his kid and casting a quick spell to slow him down before he ran into the Minister or climbed a table. He TOTALLY got this hyperactivity from his mum.

Fletcher caught up to his son and put a hand on his shoulder to hold him in place. He then crouched down to his level to give him a lecture, still holding him in place with a VERY heavy hand. "Dunk, you know not to run in public. You could have tripped over something, or run into someone, or could have broken something VERY expensive." Which Dad did NOT want to pay for today. "What do you have to say for yourself?" HE'D BETTER BE SORRY, step one!

Ooooo….apparently Valentin hit a nerve! Excellent! He always did enjoy making others uncomfortable. Perhaps he could make it a little more uncomfortable. He took a small sip for his glass as his brown eyes darted back and forth between the handsome young man and the lady he was pleading with to help him out. Oh yes, Valentin was quite used to the straight-man plead for help when he hit on them. A bit Cheshire grin formed on Valentine’s face. ”What a pitay. He carefully observed the atrium. They had certainly transformed this place. Platinum balloons and streamers, blimey. Imagine this was the decor from now on. It would certainly be interesting.

He noticed that there was a bid going on. He observed the items carefully. He didn't fill the form though. Those stuff were just a waste of money. What were the odds you could win anything? Another thing to ask his sister; she was the genius of the family after all.

Her first work function. Rebecca had been looking forward to the centennial celebration since Xia had put up the announcement. Clad in a white dress with matching accessories and her hair in a stylish twist she made her way into the ministries atrium feeling like the decor made it look like a flashy banquet hall for a noble feast than an entrance area. Leaving her trench-coat to a waiting wizard Becca took in the platinum balloons, streamers and chick tablecloths as she made her way over towards the auction area to check out the items. It could hurt to make a bid since it was for a very good cause. Becca had followed all the news and articles about her former alma mater and what had been discovered there. Poor children….

Spotting a man in a dark red suit over by the item display tables Rebecca made her way over until she stood next to him and commented quietly. ”I know what I’m not bidding on. I can’t ride a broom without injuring myself so maybe i should go for the safe Private Robe Fitting consultation. I could use some new clothes to go with my new job in the Creatures department.” That stationary set was interesting, but Becca had the date with the creator Zachazel too fresh and memory. Her head was still sore in spots...

Laurel Vance-Rose entered the centennial celebration in a simple dark red creation wondering why she had agreed to attend. Okay it was granted that she wanted to keep Airey’s grumpiness off her back for another few weeks, but really who didn’t remember how the bowling event had ended last year? Trying to not be a pessimist and actually enjoy herself for a night without listening too her beloved Inner eye too much the blond headed towards the food buffet since Aaron was running late.

The blond middle-aged prophecy maven passed a small group of people where a french man was clearly making a cute young couple quite uncomfortable. Knowing without needing any spiritual guidance how this man’s night might end she stopped to look at him and adviced forgetting the hunger for a bite to eat for a moment. "Give it a rest will you? The night has just started, but if you continue to ruffle the wrong people’s feathers then you’ll end the night with your head first in the buffet's fruit bowl." Just saying.

Right. That man. Airey had never liked the man and had always felt what could only be described as the heebee jeebies. He had found Miss Cambridge's interest in the man unhealthy back then, and it seemed as though that admiration had not lessened all that much in the years that had followed. He had no proof, but Airey had the gut wrenching suspicion that that man was behind his missing tie...

"I was suddenly inspired by an idea, Miss Cambridge," the astronomer all but sang as he rocked back briefly on his heels. "Bid on yourself. There isn't anything in any of the paperwork that I saw that prohibits you from doing so." Sure, it would look a bit peculiar but it was a perfectly acceptable loophole.

Alerted to Emmerson's presence, Airey smiled a bit as he knelt down to be more eye level with her. This was still a thought that made his skin want to crawl right off his bones, his students procreating, but his own step into fatherhood had helped him feel a little less...some sort of way about it all.

"Did you really? That's two down and three more to go then." So proud. SO proud. "No no no..not for sale. Just some of her time is," he explained with some ease. "My name is on there as well. People are trying to win the chance to spend some time with your .......... " On sweet solstice, he had to use THAT word in reference to Miss Cambridge. His face nearly contorted in agony at the mere thought. "........mommy."

He continued to gently stroke the tawny owl's chest as he spoke with the three ladies, it helped keep the owl calm as well as keep the man's hand occupied so it did not drum somewhere on his thigh or stomach.

"This is Furmgoat," he smiled as he introduced the owl to the woman - who had called him sir and that made him feel like a stuffy bloke rather than one with a bohemian soul. "I suggest a trip to Eeylops Owl Emporium if you are in the business for owl ownership." Always willing to promote a fell shop owner.

That silver number on the other woman was...something. It was a bit hard not to stare, but he prided himself on not being that sort of fellow and so he turned his gaze back to the owl perched on his shoulder for a bit of a palate cleanser. "Zachaël Lufkin," he introduced in return, offering his hand - the one that had just been caressing his owl - to her for a shake. "Delyth...that's Welsh, is it not?"

He caught Rebecca's glance from across the room and lifted his glass to her...though she seemed engrossed in other conversation and it would be rude of him to leave his present company when he had only just arrived.

* * * * * *

Initially, Charles was unaware at the enthuasiastic approach belonging to his new Junior Undersecretary and instead his attention easily remained with Conley and Miss Swan. Though, yes, if Charles were the sort to wear lipstick it would end up smeared on cheeks. And likely his own teeth as well.

"Magic carpet racing? Really?" The Minister hadn't meant to sound as surprised as he sounded, but this was the first he had heard about this and he ventured a curious glance towards Victoria for her to handle things. It...did not bode well with him that somehow he found himself out of the loop within his own Ministry. Really needed to get those interdepartmental memos fixed...or instill new regulations on delivering things in person. Bit of additional exercise for all went with the Wellness Programme anyway. "Public relations though, that's an exciting field."

And then his own shoulders tensed when the young lady brought up, of all topics, Thaddius and the comforting gesture of patting Victoria's hand was entirely subconscious. Yes, this was most certainly not the time to bring that up...even with the best of intentions. So he was a bit too eager to pull her aside for that beverage now.

Though before he could do so, there were a few people he needed to diplomatically maneuver. "Ah you flatter an old man too much, Mr. Kim," he chuckled. It felt a bit...odd to refer to him as Jonathan, though that most certainly the name he had heard most often. Well, that and Jon Jon but he would most certainly never be uttering that aloud. "No need to be thanking my or my staff. When a qualified applicant presents themselves, we would be daft not to hire them," he added with a bit of a wink.

It was the flash of a spell being cast that caught the Minister's attention next and his reflexes already had his hand moving towards his wand holster when any knee-jerk concerns were laid to rest as he saw his new Junior Undersecretary quite literally chasing down a boy who he presumed to be his son. Oh, well, perhaps they should have made it more clear that this was not the best setting for children...though he had seen Alexa around here somewhere with her own daughter. Charles was hardly one to deny a child any sort of experience, however, so it was a thought easily dismissed. His wand hand steadying, Charles smoothed the fabric of his golden vest and tucked his thumb inside the pocket as he addressed the pair. "You need to get that enthusiasm a leash, Glitter Puff," the man chortled as he offered the young man in question a bit of a wave.

Not really. Charles thought leashes for children were terrible in concept. He was not particularly fond of leashes in general and had never once put them on the Shiba Inu he and Yukie had kept.

While she wore a pleasant smile as she milled about the Ministry party, Kendra was actually doing her best to keep her short temper in check. She might have been easily talked into auctioning herself off, but that was merely because all of the other department heads had agreed to it and she couldn't be the only one who wasn't a team player. And it was admittedly for a good cause. But she was less than pleased thinking about the actual outcome.

She obtained for herself a small plate of various bite-sized desserts and began to mingle. And she soon happened to find herself near the Minister and a few of her fellow department heads, catching just the end of a conversation that sounded very interesting to her. "That's the first I've heard of Magical Carpet racing," she added as she paused to greet them all. "Good evening, Charles... Conley... Victoria, nice to see you," she added with a pleasant smile before popping one of the bite sized cakes in her mouth. And though Games and Sports would have quite a bit to do with that sort of racing, after it was approved, it was her department that would have to deal with the regulations beforehand. Regulations that were already quite strict and had only fairly recently been put into place. "I hope there isn't any illegal racing going on?" she added, lowering her voice. What a hassle for several departments, in that case.

Dressed to the nines, Milo made the rounds through the party, looking for friends to socialize with or even someone new to meet. Was there anyone new in their department? He had been a little disappointed to hear about Jacob's resignation, but turnover happened. He was sure the gobstone division would do just fine. But he wasn't necessarily thinking about that tonight. In fact, he was rather amused as he looked over the list of things to be auctioned. Milo knew that his sister was going to be auctioned off as a "date" and honestly? He found it hilarious.

Chuckling to himself as he grabbed some desserts from the buffet, he turned without paying much attention as he was quite distracted in thought and bumped into a person nearby (Simon). "Ah, sorry about that, mate!" he offered an apology, noticing he got some chocolate frosting on the back of the man's shoulder, also recognizing him as an MLE employee. Oops. That'd brush right off...

I'm dreaming with my eyes wide open

Gidwyn had made an honest attempt to dress to impress for the evening's festivities. He'd been so excited to return to the British ministry after an absolute ETERNITY away on special assignment. He knew turnover was a thing, and he knew the workplace he'd return to would be much different than the one he left.. But when he took the assignment, he didn't know he'd be away so long, or that when he came back, so many of the people he'd gotten to know would have moved on, probably to bigger and better things.

So there he was, just like he'd always been at parties back in his younger days: Supporting the wall, and hitting the comfort food. Hard.

He cringed at the memory of his first few weeks at the ministry, and even moreso at the thought of having to go through the ice-breaking process with a hundred new faces. He prided himself on always being such an outgoing guy, but that was back home in Australia, where everything was so much more relaxed. Still, he crossed his fingers and hoped the workplace he was rejoining still had good, gracious people, and that he'd be on good terms with every single one of them before too long.

Being here. Ugh.

Not having her right hand man with her? Even more ugh.

What Eliora was most unimpressed by was James' replacement and she had absolutely no time for them in her calendar for the forseeable future. And she didn't have time for this event either. She was just here to say she had been. So no one could say that she wasn't. So no one could judge her. And no one could question the time off she had taken in December to get help with the nightmares she had about their visit to Hogwarts.

But she was back to reality after it all and for some stupid reason... the only thing that grounded her was the idea of James. See? Stupid. She was stupid and he was stupid and this whole thing was stupid and she missed sneaking into his office during the day to annoy him and putting salt in his drinks and spilling coffee on his desk and telling him just how much he loved her because he had to.

And knowing that she was the one with the feelings and couldn't dare act on them.

But whatever.

This auction thing provided a little help. James wasn't here, but he was still bidding. In her handwriting. And he also knew nothing about it. But there was only one person that she wanted to be spending her time with willingly. And at least she could guarantee one bid on her.

Was it time to go home yet?

S I G H.

She detested this. She detested the social gathering, the idle chatter, the constant need to introduce herself because she was, in essence, still a new person here. Every part of her would rather be at home, meditating to the gentle ambiances of the latest slow tunes to hit the WWN. But after much consideration - and a small talk with her mum later - she came to realise that, yes, she was a newly appointed Department Head. Therefore, skipping a work function, no matter how tedious, was simply out of the question.

Again, S I G H.

Strolling her way into the Atrium, Zhuó Xiá - or Rosalyn, if she opted to go with her given name - shrugged off her coat and deposited it in the coat check close to the fireplaces. She barely hesitated before wandering up to the dessert buffet, her long, shimmering, golden dress floating behind her as she walked.

Ladling her plate up with bite-sized sweet treats, her eyes did a bit of wandering and soon landed on the very distant glimpse of the auction tables - or where she knew the auction tables to be. It was enough to cause her to instinctively let out a small tut under her breath. While there were good intentions behind this and the auction was, admittedly, for a good cause, she couldn't help but feel slightly downhearted at the very idea of being auctioned off as a "date" to some randomer. The idea of trying to make idle chatter with someone she had never met before and offer them something substantial for their money was enough to make her want to leave the event all over again.

Whatever. Desserts first, worries about "dates" and auctions later.

In any other situation, Grayson Whitlock would've been LIVING for this. This was a PARTY, HELLO?! This was his kind of function. And while he did look great on a day-to-day basis, today, he looked just that little bit better than normal.

However, given the events from the last year, this potioneer was feeling less than himself. Whatever had happened at Hogwarts was enough to shake him to his very core. How many people had seen him break down in front of a bunch of boggarts? Too many, was the answer. Even worse, his feelings didn't stop there. No no no. He was still holding out for a big hug from his son the minute the boy was done with school and could spend some time with him, instead. As much as he didn't want to admit it, he needed that hu-

OH JEEZ, WAS THAT ELIORA?!

Swearing loudly under his breath, Grayson moved as quickly as he could in any direction he could. Did he know where he was going? No. As long as it was as far away from his Department Head as possible, it didn't matter. She didn't even have to know that he was there in all his glory. Sure, he'd have to see her sooner or later but today was not that day.

A steady stream of swear words spilled out of his mouth, something that didn't stop when he, walking backwards, bumped RIGHT into someone else (Gidwyn). Someone close to a wall? Uh, HELLO?! "Sorry, I was just..... I wasn't looking." Could they laugh and move on? Please?

Oh yes, Valentin was quite used to the straight-man plead for help when he hit on them. A bit Cheshire grin formed on Valentine’s face. ”What a pitay. Pairhaps you can save me la last dance, non?” he was trying very very hard not to chuckle. ” Ai promize to lét you lead.” He winked at the lovely young lady. ” Mademoiselle, yur drez eez quite stunneng. Katrina normally did not do well in awkward situations, but she was doing quite good playing along in this sticky position. "Zhank you, sir.", she said. She smiled kindly at him as he complimented her dress. And now he was asking her to save him a dance? That was a... maybe. She was very forgetful, and she may forget. "I vill try not to forget that request. I am very forgetful, so I am sorry if I forget.", she explained. Suddenly, she had an idea of how to make him go away. She would talk a lot, as most people got annoyed if you talked a lot. She would force her German accent whilst doing that too, as some people described it as annoying. Very rude and inconsiderate people they were too. She threw German words in there too.

"I zake it du bist französisch?", Katrina started, "Your Akzent sounds sehr französisch to mich.", she said. Who even understood what she was saying? Only a German person would. She wondered if any other Germans worked in the Ministry. She started to get distracted from what she was doing. What was she doing again? Oh yes, talking to the man in a heavy German accent to annoy him. "Vat ist ihr name, Herr?", she asked. She was trying her best not to laugh, as she found it very funny to annoy unwanted people.

Giovanni was quite startled as a woman started talking to him. It took him a while to adjust to the situation. "I personally don't like these bidding stuff. What are the odds you're going to win something?", he said, "Forgive my pessimism." After a while he changed his mind and said, "Actually, I might go for the Private Robe Fitting consultation as well. I need some new clothes too." He took a form and quickly filled it in. Slipping it into the box, he stood back up. He adjusted his red tie (it kept moving out of place) and added, "Sorry, did you say you work in the Creatures department? Because I work there too." He held his hand out and introduced himself.

"I'm Giovanni.", he explained. A very common Italian name, it was. His parents were not creative at all when naming him. He remembered something about his grandparents naming him, but it was most likely just a cover story for not being as creative with names when they were young.
