Greenhouses

{The Greenhouses}

The Greenhouses house any and all plants the Department of Environmental Regulation and Protection is currently working on, both indigenous and foreign. This is where the Botanists make the magic happen - literally and figuratively. Potions ingredients are being grown here as well as experiments conducted by the Research and Development team. After the incidents of the previous year, some of the more aggressive plants have been quarantined into a separate smaller greenhouse, to be tended to only by those specifically assigned to the task. Should you find any of the greenhouses to be short on supplies of any kind, please contact one of the Greenhouse Caretakers.

If you do not work for the Department of Environmental Regulation and Protection, you are NOT permitted to enter any of the Greenhouses without being accompanied by a DERP-employee and/or explicit permission by the Department Head, Olly Emmons-Clarke.

Anyone?

The Greenhouses.

Rachel had heard during the Meet and Greet that there were greenhouses situated at the Department. How could there not be one? It was rather fitting since this was the Department of Environmental and Regulation and Protection. A Greenhouse was one of her most favourite things in the world and it warmed her heart to glimpse such breathtaking and flourishing ones present.

"They're wonderful,'' she whispered to herself, brown eyes wide in amazement as she drank in the view. It would be hardly a problem if she ventured in, correct?

Olly had just come here to make sure everything was in order before going back to work. It was part of her daily routine in fact to check in on the greenhouses and not just to see how some of the plants she was working on were doing but...just because. It was just something she DID now.

Today, however, the greenhouse she'd just walked into wasn't empty. "Don't touch anything." Olly said, just loud enough for the girl to hear her without having to raise her voice. What was she doing in here anyway? Did she have a task? Did someone tell her she should be in here?

What WERE they supposed to do with the interns anyway?

Don't touch anything.

Rachel was just about to slip into the Greenhouse but the voice stopped her short. Her heart begun to thud. Oh no! Had she made a mistake of some sort? Was she not supposed to be here?

She turned to see Olly approaching. Rachel liked Olly so her heartbeats slowly returned to normal. She had been kind enough to help her out at the Meet and Greet. "Hello, Olly. I can't venture in at least? I promise I won't touch a single thing.'' Please! Just have a look at the innocent eyes looking up hopefully at you.

Hmm.

The interns WERE here to learn she supposed. What exactly she wasn't sure. What working at the ministry was like, she assumed. Had they been assigned to departments at random, though? She could ask but right now didn't feel like engaging in that topic of conversation with Rachel. It didn't reaaaaally matter anyway. She was here now.

"You can but only with someone to supervise you." That was a rule she might have just made up but it suited her very well. It might have even been a rule officially. Olly definitely thought it should be. After a short pause she stepped around the girl and into the greenhouse. "Come on then."

Rachel waited with bated breath.

Would she be reprimanded for wanting to venture into the Greenhouse? She hoped not. But wasn't this one of the reasons she had applied for the internship at this particular department. Still, she didn't want to break any rules. She'd be sent home! The thought horrified the girl.

She needed to be accompanied by someone? Rachel was just about to revert her innocent look to a hopeful one. Yet she need not to. Her face lit up with happiness. "Really? Thank you, Olly. I'm right behind you.'' Sure enough she was. "Are there any recently discovered plants grown here?''

Oh wow, Rachel looked happy. Maybe this hadn't been such a good idea after all. She looked EXCITED. Hopefully she'd still behave.

Glancing at her over her shoulder, Olly made sure the intern was following her. Close behind too. Maybe they should walk next to each other, that way she could keep an eye on the younger girl. Yes. So she slowed down a little to walk next to her. "Not currently. Or, not recently discovered at least. We were quite busy with the Summit earlier this year." She ventured a little further into the greenhouse. "What are you interested in exactly?" Since they were here and all.

The Announcer 08-12-2018 02:26 AM

What is going on in these Greenhouses. Yesterday when you were here everything was looking fine and today everything is dead, it is like someone turned the heating charm way up and left it over night. Plants are not happy and some have sent their vines out looking for water and cooler places. Others are thrashing about and chomping at anything close to them.

Bazinga 08-12-2018 02:32 AM

Even if he wanted to Griffin could not get past the entrance of the greenhouse when he came in. What was going on? He saw plants coming out the door, but why and who would have left the door open to let them out? Trying to get through them though he was afraid he'd wheel one over with his chair and they weren't being very nice as they wrapped around his wheels.

Pulling his wand he began to stun them the best he could and move them aside so he could finally enter one of the greenhouses. Holy Hippogriph it was hot in there. He lifted his wand to cool the place down, "You should be alright now guys." The poor plants, what had happened in here? They were not looking so well.

Wheeling further in he started to water the ones closest to the door.

The Announcer 08-12-2018 02:33 AM

They were not happy at all and having their vines stunned was only making the plants more stressed out and more annoyed. As the human came into the room and even made it cooler, the plants weren't having it and the vined around his wheels pulling him towards the wall.

Soon the man was stuck with vines fully wrapped around his chair and him.

Lislchen 08-12-2018 06:20 PM

Olly didn't...particularly mind the fact that Noah was gone. No offense. He was a nice enough person and all but he hadn't really been around a lot. Not that this situation of having the MINISTER run their department was any better. Honestly, if she thought about it too much, she probably would have welcomed Noah back with open arms. What had the Minister been thinking? And what were his plans for the department? Would they be shut down? Because honestly, now was literally the worst time for her to lose her job. Same went for Schuyler.

So hopefully this wouldn't be as bad as she was currently fearing it was.

Trying to keep her cool, Olly went to the greenhouses first, as always. The second right before she opened the door, however, she could already sense that something was off. What the- She stopped dead in her tracks after opening the door, staring inside at what could only be described as utter chaos. What had happened here? What was going on?

Too busy trying to assess the damage, Olly was 100% unaware of the fact that she wasn't alone in the Greenhouse.

Bazinga 08-13-2018 01:58 AM

Well this wasn't at all what he was hoping for.

"HELP!! HELP!"

His screams didn't get very far because soon Griffin's mouth was covered and he could only mumble. He wasn't sure what he was going to do, but all he could think of is that he would not die at the hands of plants. He loved plants, he couldn't die like this. What would Uller do without him?

Hearing the door he tried to look, but couldn't move. was it a rescue team? He tried to scream for help, but all that came out was muffles.

Lislchen 08-13-2018 02:45 PM

This was.....she was going to need help with this.

About to turn around and look for some backup, Olly suddenly heard something that distinctly was NOT a noise a plant made. Generally. A mumble of sorts. Was someone here? Taking a few careful steps into the greenhouse, her wand raised, Olly turned around to look where the sound had come from. Maybe she'd just-

Oh.

"Griffin!" This was NOT how she'd planned for her day to go. Not at all. Why was she the only one here???? Should she send a quick note to Schuyler to make sure she WOULDN'T come in here?? Did she have- no, no she didn't have time for that right now. Instead, she pointed her wand at the door behind her to close it - making sure the plants at least didn't try to spread out more - then hurried over to where she could still see parts of Griffin's wheelchair.

Why were the vines acting like this? Had someone enchanted them? "Stop!" Yes, she was aware that they wouldn't listen to her but hopefully the spell she sent at them would at least stun them for long enough that she could get Griffin out of there. If the spell had no effect, she was going to have to start cutting off the vines. Which was something she REALLY did not want to do.

The Announcer 08-15-2018 02:51 AM

The plants were angry and desperate for water from the overly heated room they spent the night in. The person that was in there with his wand did not make them happy and when someone else showed up the vines went right for her legs.

As she yelled the vines continued to grab for her though some stopped on her and on the man as she stunned a few, but others kept coming.

Bazinga 08-17-2018 03:18 AM

She saw him! This was good, yes very good. The fact that the vines felt like they were getting tighter around him was possibly his imagination or it was going to take him down soon was more than the panic he felt could contain. Though only muggles were coming out he wanted to scream and get out of there. He would have never thought that something that he was so passionate about would turn against him with such hate.

As he continued to try and break free and struggle against the vines he saw them growing towards Olly. With a few being stunned he pulls his wrist free and grabbed his wand.

Just as he tried to move his wrist to cut through some of the green flesh he felt the plant moving around him more. No, no you aren't he quickly tried to move the wand and cut the nearest vine.

Lislchen 08-17-2018 12:20 PM

She should have expected this.

Jumping backwards, away from the vines that were coming for her legs, Olly glanced at Griffin again to see if he'd managed to free himself. This wasn't looking too good. They needed reinforcements. This was one of those moments where being able to cast a Patronus would definitely come in handy.

Ugh.

"Immobulus!" Olly yelled, pointing her wand at the nearest vines. She would have to get to the plant itself, the stem to immobilize that directly. Another glance at Griffin had her narrow her eyes though. "Don't CUT them!" Sheesh. It wasn't the plants' fault. "Stun them!" If he could get his wand to cut them, he could just as well cast a stunning or freezing charm on them.

Speaking of which, she cast the latter on another few vines in her vicinity. They would need a more permanent solution here. And quickly.

The Announcer 08-19-2018 02:56 AM

The human was right to say not to cut the plant, because the minute the slice went into the vine the plant got more aggressive and started to squeeze the chair harder until it broke. A vine going around the wrist of the wand hand and pulling enough the wand fell to the ground.

Vines that were headed towards the woman froze as she froze them, but others kept moving about the greenhouse.

Bazinga 08-19-2018 04:06 AM

Nope, nope, nope this was not working at all and he felt his wand fall to the ground. Giving Olly a look through vines he wasn't sure how she was still worried about the plant being cut was in it was now trying to kill them. He didn't care if he cut the entire plant up at this point, it was going to be cut into the smallest pieces if he could get his wand back.

When he heard the crack of his chair he knew without feeling that if he didn't get out of this mess he would be needing a temporary way to move around until his chair was fixed and the ministry could replace this one since this was all happening on the job.

Griffin checked on Olly the best he could. He hated that he wasn't able to help his friend and protect her, but he wasn't even protecting himself at the moment.

It was hard to miss all the yelling and noise coming from the greenhouses. Kat had just decided to make a quick detour to grab a cup of coffee before the sounds caught her attention. Very much confused, the blond entered the greenhouse, unsure of what she was supposed to expect.

...Until she saw what looked like a tendril fly around. What in the name of Merlin was going on here?! Why was Griffin on a chair, being grappled by the vines? Kat had thought the plants inside this greenhouse was tame. She had only ever dealt with angry plants during field work. "Anyone here know why they're mad, though?" She said, announcing her presence. Because, if there was anything she knew from her years of facing rogue plants as her job, it was to find the real reason why. She doubted it was any sort of dark magic, though. It didn't seem like it right now.

With that said, Kat sent a non-verbal immobulus at the nearest vine and a stunning spell at the ones wrapped around Griffin.

Lislchen 08-19-2018 01:06 PM

YES, she was worried about the plant.

That and it she could have told Griffin that the plants would not be appreciative of him cutting off their vines even before they reacted exactly that way. Ugh. If she wasn't in actual danger right now, Olly would have glared at her coworker. As it were though she just continued to stun as many vines as possible, slowly walking closer to Griffin. Who, by now, had lost his wand too.

Brilliant.

Crack!

Oh no. Her attention had briefly been on sending another Freezing spell at - what she hoped was - one of the mother plants when she heard the noise that made her cringe. That was bad. That sounded like...yeah. Brown eyes back on Griffin, she watched as his wheelchair changed shape. Ugh. Hopefully that could be fixed. Once they had made it out of here.

Speaking of which, finally someone else had found them. "We need to get him out of here!" Olly yelled at Kat, perhaps a little more harshly than intended but time was of the essence. They could fix the plant issue later, once they'd gotten Griffin out of here. "Help me get the vines away from him." She sent another few Immobulus at the vines holding Griffin hostage. They'd have to levitate him out of here.

Was nobody else here??

The Announcer 08-20-2018 02:17 AM

More of the vines on the plants stopped moving as freezing and stunning spells continued to come towards it, but the plants movable limbs kept coming towards both women grabbing at them and squeezing more around the man.

As more spells came towards the vines around the man, the plant slowly stopped squeezing him and went still.

Jessiqua 08-20-2018 02:42 AM

*Jumps in*

Archer was almost dozing off at his desk, when he was startled awake by the commotion going on in the Greenhouses.

THE PLANTS!

He jumped up, grabbed his wand, and ran towards the greenhouses. But the department's precious plants were the ones ATTACKING. "What's going on?" he said to nobody in particular.

Griffin, Olly, and Kat were in there. He heard spells being cast, and the first thought was to protect the plants. He reminded himself that the plants were the ones needing to be controlled. Whipping out his wand, and hovering around the entrance - in case he needed to run for more help, but also knowing now to put the attacker between himself and the only exit - he started joining in with spells. "Stupefy," he said, pointing towards some of the creeping plants. "Immobulus." He pointed his wand to different plants as he took in the damage.

Kimothy 08-20-2018 10:02 AM

Kat did not mind the tone of Olly's voice. After all, their situation at hand was a bit worrying and the blond was focused on making sure the plants calm down enough so they can pull Griffin out of his vine burrito. She sent more stunning spells at the ones crawling their way towards her and Olly.

They could deal with the other damages later. Kat figured their department head slash Minister of Magic would want an explanation for all this.

But when Archer arrived to the scene just in time for the vines to stop squeezing Griffin like he was some sort of lemon, it seemed the right time to try to get him out of there. "Keep them busy," she told both of her colleagues before sending an immobulus towards a growing vine near her and another charm at Griffin to levitate him away from the plant.

This better work. Kat was just making sure she didn't have to get too close to the vines wrapped around her colleague. She didn't trust the plant just yet.

Bazinga 08-21-2018 02:01 AM

Thank Merlin more people were there. Griffin had been around plants all his life but this, this was a mess and he wasn't sure he ever wanted to be in this situation again. Without a chair he wasn't sure how to move around, but at the moment he was just hoping to not be squeezed to death.

Though he didn't have long before he felt the plant loosening with all the spells going at it. Every vine that had been hit would stop squeezing and soon he felt like he could wiggle his arms. Twisting his face a bit he could get out enough to remove the plant's vine from the front of his mouth.

"I can't get out of these vines without either having someone pull or cut them off me." With no use of his lower half he wasn't able to push off or move like most. Though that didn't stop him from using his strength in his upper body to try to wiggle out the best he could.

Lislchen 08-21-2018 05:41 PM

Olly's spellwork had gotten so much better over the years but she could feel the intensity of this moment and the fact that they just couldn't catch a breath, it was draining her. But she couldn't allow her focus to waver now. Not now. Another freezing spell was sent towards two vines that were trying to grab onto her arm while she slowly made her way over to Griffin.

Oh good. More people.

While she did NOT answer Archer's question - he could tell what was going on, couldn't he????? - Olly still gave him a look to...make him see just how serious the situation was. Her eyes were a little wider than usual but other than that she tried to remain as calm as possible. There were more people now, they could do this. And once they'd gotten out of the greenhouse, they could lock the door and regroup and figure out what to do about the plants and how to help them and fix this.

Hearing Kat's command, Olly did as she suggested but moved closer to Griffin at the same time. Something was clearly not working so she glanced at the two of them again. "Get him out!" Honestly, she wasn't sure how much longer she could keep this up. "Pull him out! Do it...don't use magic." Because clearly that wasn't working and they were seriously running out of time.
