Haha that's why I love cliffies...keeps people in the moment

I know it's horrible for Charlie to be hanging out with Malfoy but it's vital to the story...which im hoping will continue for more than one FF.

After the horrible Slytherin boys left, the five friend felt the Hogwarts Express begin to slow down. "We can't be there yet." said Ron staring out the window. The compartment door opened and in walked Harry, Ron, and Hermione's friends, Ginny Weasley and Neville Longbottom. The two greeted the twins as they sat down in the increasingly cold train compartment. Suddenly, Charlotte turned around to see a hooded creature open the door and slowly float in. Images of Charlotte's past flashed through her head-- reoccuring nightmares, meeting Giselle, etc. She felt someone slump in their seat and seeing it was Harry, rushed to his side just as the man who was in their compartmnet awoke. He stood strong against the creature and out of his wand a luminescent animal ((was it a wolf?)) attacked the creature who immediately fled. The group sat in silence for awhile until Hermione tried waking Harry. He finally woke up and the man gave him a brown treat. "Here have some chocolate, it'll make you feel better. I'm going to leave and have a word with the conductor now. Excuse me." Harry took a small bite as the man left, his pale face gaining a bit of color. "W-what happened?" he asked looking around at his friends. "Well that creature--I believe it was a dementor, was increasingly drawn to you. Then you kinda just slumped in your seat and no wonder why. It was so cold in here and I kept seeing frightful images in my head." explained Charlotte as the others nodded. "Was I the only one to faint then?" Harry asked. The others slowly nodded and he sighed and said, "Great, another thing for Malfoy to make fun of me for."

So it might not be my greatest post but it defintely was action-packed ((yeah right )) hope you enjoy and i might even write more this evening...

So are most other people who write fan fics that I read. This was definitely action packed. Poor Charlotte, I wonder how Liam took to the dementors? PAMS!!!!

aww thanks Jems!! I always seem to forget about poor Liam but don't worry he gets a lot more attention in the future...glad you enjoyed it!!

yeah it's sorta an idea that Jems had for her first FF but instead of my mother being evil...my father works too much!! Will post more soon!

Hey y'all! I thought I'd be ambitious and write another chapter a meer 10 hours after the previous chapter...I know it's a stretch but give me a break! I had to do my homework sometime...

Chapter Five: Welcome to Hogwarts

Charlotte and Liam followed their friends cautiously off the train. They looked

up to see one of the most magnificent castles they had ever seen. Charlotte

gasped in awe and wonderment and Liam said, "Bloody Hell!" to which

Charlotte hit him in the back of the head. Hermione laughed as they all

walked towards the horseless drawn carriages that were awaiting them at

the foot of the driveway of Hogwarts. The trip was quite uneventful and all

arrived in the Great Hall in one piece. Charlotte and Liam were called over by

a fierce looking woman who went by the name of Professor McGonagall. "You

two will be sorted just as if you were first years." she explained to them. The

twins looked timidly at each other but Charlotte squeezed Liam's hand and

said, "C'mon we've been through loads scarier than this..." After Professor

McGonagall explained most of the rules to the first year students, they all

followed her into the Great Hall for the first time. After all the students had

stared around in amazement, Professor McGonagall cleared her throat and

silently motioned to the first years ((and the twins )) to look at the hat.

Suddenly, a rip appeared between the top and the brim and the Sorting Hat,

for that's what the twins later found out it was called, greeted the school

body with a poetic verse. After it had finished, and the rest of the school

had ceased applauding, Professor McGonagall took out a scroll and began

reading names off the list. Finally "Gates, Charlotte!" was echoed throughout

the immense Hall nd Charlotte walked forward, her head held high and sat

primly on the stool. "Ha! A treasured gem of the great Gates clan! I have long

awaited for this day..." Charlotte heard, " Let's see...very intelligent, wits to

match those of Ms. Granger and lots of courage I can see. Better

be...GRYFFINDOR!!" Charlotte let out a long sigh, took the hat off, and neatly

put it back on its stool before skipping to the Gryffindor table and sitting next

to Hermone who gave Charlotte an immense hug. She looked up as

McGonagall called out "Gates, Liam!" Liam walked casually up to the Sorting

Hat and sat down on the stool. "Hm...So Liam, you have a bit of a mean

streak in you." Liam heard, "Very cunning always taking the easy way out.

But you are smart and very courageous...Difficult to decide." "Not Slytherin,

not Slytherin..." Liam thought in his head. "Not Slytherin eh? You want to be

with your sister then? Allright better be...GRYFFINDOR!!" and again students

from the middle table cheered on the new member of their House. "The hat

was contemplating putting me in Slytherin but I kept tellig it I wanted to stay

with you." Liam whispered to Charlotte. "That was smart of you Liam because

I don't know what I'd do without you at my side." Charlotte replied as she

gave her brother an immense hug. "Aw, c'mon Lottie! Do you have to do that

here?" he complained with a wink and Charlotte laughed as she watched the

rest of the students being sorted.

The rest of the feast went by in a flash and the well-fed, tired students

meandered their way up to the various common rooms where the inviting four

poster beds awaited them.

Chapter Six: The First Day Of Hogwarts

Charlotte rolled out of bed and quietly got ready for her first day of school. She made her way downstairs with her journal in one hand and her school thngs slung over her shoulder. She went over to the window seat and gazed out at the never-ending grounds of Hogwarts. A small bird sat on the windowsill in front of her chirping away. She began to quietly sing one of her favorite Muggle musical songs from Sweeney Todd:
"Green finch and linnet bird
nightingale, blackbird, How is it you sing?
How can you jubilate sitting in cages
Never taking wing?
Outside the sky waits Beckoning, beckoning
Just beyond the bars
How is it you sing anything?"
She looked down and saw Charlie Murphy staring up at the window with his secret smile on his face. Charlotte smile back and looked down to see her necklace charm the color of Joyous Gold. Suddenly, she heard slight footsteps coming from the Girls Dormitory and with a final glance back down at Charlie, she turned to greet Hermione. "Was that you singing a bit before?" she asked. Charlotte nodded blushing. "Wow! You have an amazing voice. When I sing it sounds like a bunch of silverware being put down the garbage disposal." "Come now Hermione, it can't be that bad." Charlotte replied, putting her journal in her book bag. "Well...best be down to breakfast so we can get out schedules." The two girls linked arms and walked happily down to the Great Hall.

Charlotte and Hermione were surprised and later revolted to see Harry, Ron and Liam chowing don on as much food that appeared on the plates in front of them. The two girls sat next to Ginny who was just pouring herself a glass of orang juice. "Good morning! Finally, I have a few civilized people to talk to." "Gin, whatchoo tryin' to say?" Ron asked in between bites of toast. "That you three look like a bunch of bumbling baboons with your bad manners." replied Ginny with a sneer. The three boys looked at each other dumbstruck and finally put down what was in their hands and began to wipe their faces clean. "That's much better." Hermione said with a smile and she began to eat her chocolate chip muffin daintily. Professor McGonagall began coming around with students' scheduls. "Aww man! Double Potions with Slytherins!" Harry and Ron said in unison. "It won't be too bad." Charlotte encourage as she thought of the chance to see Charlie even if it meant spending time with that dreadful Malfoy.

The five Gryffindor students headed down into the dark cold dungeons for their least favorite class with their least favorite teacher-- Severus Snape. Ron, Harry, and Hermione had filled Charlotte and Liam in on the details of Snape's attitude towards any student but one of Slytherin. The twins hated the man before they'd even met him and all five were keen as to not get in trouble. Snape, by their luck, would probably take away 50 Gryffindor House points in one lesson. Finally, they reached the Potions classroom door and they saw Malfoy with his regular crew. "What a slimy git." Ron muttered under his breath. "What was that Weasley? Wouldn't want to get a detention on the first day. You should learn to respect your superiors." Malfoy replied as his followers snickered. Charlotte stepped in front and said, "Ha! Hope you don't mean yourself!" "Weasley, are you soo pathetic that you need a girl to solve your problems for you?" Liam and Harry held back Ron who was lungeing at Malfoy who,in turn, was laughing. Hermone ran up to try and grab Charlotte and was successful and the latter stood there with a fiery glaze in her eyes. Just then the classroom door swung open and Severus Snape walked out. "Tut, tut...what is this fighting. If I were you, Ms. Gates, I'd watch that temper." he said as he allowd the students into the classroom. Ron and Charlotte were let go and they continually glared raptoriously at Malfoy who smirked at his luck.

When all the student got into the classroom and got seated, Snape pointed his wand at the blackboard and instructions for a potion appeared on its surface. "You will work in groups of two that I will assign." Snape said as he started around the room pairing up everyone. When he arrived at the Gryffindor table, he said "Time to split up the dream team...Harry you work wih Goyle, Ron with Crabbe, Charlotte with Malfoy, Liam with Charlie Murphy, and Hermione with Pansy." They all groaned at their luck and began to shift to sit with their partners. Charlotte felt her charm glow a purplish red and she grabbed Liam's arm and said, "You do anything stupid, I"ll get Ginny to put a Bat Bogey Hex on you." "Relax Lottie, I won't do anything to harm precious Charlie Murphy." and he walked over to sit next to his partner. Charlotte continued to sit, reluctantly, next to Malfoy who sneered as she sat down. "Well...better get started on our potion. I'll just sit back and look like I'm working." he said putting his hand behind his greasy head. "Fat chance, Malfoy! You'll do your part of this assignment or I'll Professor Snape how you sat on your lazy **** the whole time." "Yeah like that'll do anything." Malfoy replied with a snicker. "I don't know if Potter and his little posse ever told you but Snape has never gotten me o my friends in any sort of trouble and he's not about to start." Charlotte gritted her teeth and began to get the ingredients for the potion in the students' storage. Charlotte then went back to her table and reluctantly began to mix the potion by herself. When it was time for Professor Snape to inspect the progress of his students, he went to Malfoy and Charlotte first. Charlotte held her breath as he ladled some of the potion and examine it in a beaker. "Very good work...Malfoy." Charlotte's jaw dropped. "You've become quite the potioneer since last year." "Thank you sir, that's very kind of you to say so." Malfoy replied with a grin. "15 points to Slytherin then." Professor Snape said as he dumped the potion back into the cauldron and continued on his way.

"Why didn't you tell him the truth?!" Charlotte demanded. "To get the good grade...God I thought you were smart." Malfoy retorted. Charlotte glared at him, her stone giving her skin a very red tint. Malfoy began laughing at poor Neville Longbottom whose potion had burned a hole through his shoe. Without warning, Charlotte pulled back her hand and punched Malfoy square in the nose. He toppled out of his chair, gripping for his nose which began gushing blood. He got up just as Liam came over laughing and Malfoy said, "You'll pay for that!" Charlie Murphy grabbed Malfoy's things and began to guide him towards the hospital wing. Professor Snape stood in front of Charlotte and Liam and said,"Charlotte, that was completely unnecessary and I believe actions must be taken. You and your brother will both recieve detentions and you will lose 50 points." Charlotte tried to keep a straight face as she replied,"Yes,sir." The bell then rang and all walked out of the classroom in silence. As the 5 friends reached the Entrance Hall, millions of statements came Charlotte's way. "That was bloody brilliant Charlotte." Ron said giving her a pat on the shoulder. "Aye it was!" Liam agreed as she continued grinning. Harry couldn't stop laughing "Yo-you shoulda seen Malfoy's face!" he was able to say. "Charlotte I can't believe you did that! You could've gotten a lot worse than a detention! You could've been expelled!" Hermione said worridely. "Honestly Hermione, I wouldn't have minded being expelled...just as long as I had the satisfactoin of being able to say I've done that!" Charlotte replied and they all laughed as they headed into the Great Hall for lunch.

The rest of the day went by very quickly and various Gryffindor students wre doing the tons of homework that was assigned in the Common Room. "I'll never be able to finish this in time!" and exasperated Ron said as he slammed down Hogwarts, A History. Charlotted looked up from her Charms essay and gav him a reassuring smile. "C'mon Ron don't give up! Here after I'm done with my essay I'll help you out." "Thanks Charlotte. Oi! Hermione, it looks like Charlotte is giving you a run for your grades." "Your absolutely right Ron, Hermione replied with a grin. "I'd better watch out for you." she continued nudging Charlotte slightly who smiled back.

Yeah it's a very long post and it took me forever to write but now we're about to get to a part which is absolutely amazing if I do say so myself.

AHH!!! where is everyolene? *Looks around for people* Anyways...I'm here to write another chapter of our heroes' woeful tale. Hope you enjoy.

Chapter Seven: The First Hogsmeade Visit

Charlotte and Liam served their detention with Professor Snape by sorting out dead flobberworms ((which is very hard to find considering their state of movement)) without magic. Charlotte tried to keep her temper so neither her nor her brother would get into trouble with the most hateful man they ever met.

The summery days of September turned into the frigid days of October and the time came for the third year students at Hogwarts to go on their first trip into the local village of Hogsmeade. The girls primped and preened themselves and put on their best Muggle clothes. The boys met them down in the Common Room and as Hermione and Charlotte walked down the stairs, Liam groaned saying, "God! Why do girls have to take so long?" to which Hermione and Charlotte ignored and the four of them headed downstairs. At the Entrance Hall, Filch, the caretaker and Professor McGonagall awaited them and took the students' permission slips. Charlotte linked arm and arm with Hermione went to sit on a bench as they awaited their departure. "So, I see your lover!" teased Hermione, as she glanced over at Malfoy and his friends, Charlie Murphy included. "Hermione Granger, I don't know whatyou are talking about." Charlotte said dismissively as she fiddled with her charm which began to turn Lovely Silver. "For your information I do know what I'm talking about and I happed to know that when you're charm turns silver it means you like something because it looked that way when I saw you singin out the window. Or when we first arrived at Potions class!" Hermione retorted. "And he obviously fancies you! Good Lord, I thought you were intelligent!" and the two girls brook out in a fit of giggles.

Meanwhile...

Liam and Ron were standing together discussin Quidditch when suddenly, Liam felt his charm glow and looked over to see Charlie Murphy glancing at his sister. His hands tensed into a fist which Ron noticed. "Easy there mate, wouldn't want to get into trouble like your sister. You may not like that Murphy boy, but getting in trouble for fighting with a Slytherin means getting into more trouble with Snape." Liam began to calm down a bit. "I just don't get it Ron. He seems pretty quiet most of the time yet there's just something not quite right about him." Liam said as he continued glaring at Charlie. "He's a Slytherin, mate. All've 'em are bad seeds and there's just nothing to be done about it." Ron repliedd as he grabbed both of Liam's shoulders and directed him towards Charlotte and Hermione.

In the Slytherin group...

'I can't let Malfoy do this to Charlotte.' Charlie thought to himself. His stomach flipped as Charlotte looked his way casually and he grinned back even though he knew Malfoy was watching with disapproving eyes.

The third year Gryffindors looked around the dismal streets of Hogsmeade ultimately disappointed. The reason for all the gloom was because the hooded dementors were gliding throughout the almost abandoned street. Charlotte shivered and buried her hands into her pockets. She felt something new in the depth of denim and withdrew her hand to reveal a small piece of parchment. 'That's odd...' Charlotte thought as she opened the folded note and read:

'Charlotte,
I was hoping to speak with you privately. Please meet me by the old oak a bit outside of town.
Yours,
Charlie Murphy.'

Charlotte stopped in her tracks and gasped as she reread the note. Finally, coming to her senses, she looked up to see the others looking at her with a concerned look on their faces. "Oh it's nothing." she reassured them as she fell back into stride with Hermione. "I've just remembered that I wanted to send a note to my father! Why don't I do that and I'll meet you in the Three Broomsticks."
"But Charlotte--" Liam began to protest but Charlotte put up her hand to signal him to be silent. "I insist...see you in about a half an hour." She smiled one last time as she headed to the Owlery. She glanced behind to make sure that no one was following her. She passed the Owlery and proceede towards the lane that led out of Hogsmeade...

Oooh another cliffie for ya!!
