Remus Lupin walked down Diagon Alley with a wide grin across his face, something rarely seen. His parents were soaking up as much of his happiness as possible until he would leave them to Hogwarts. They missed seeing him this way, this happy.
They had just exited the wand shop. Remus got a very nice wand that was tucked away in his pocket safely. So far they had visited the book shop, he also got his quills and other such things as his cauldron and dials for potions, and the robes shop, which turned out to be quite difficult for Remus as a big woman kept slapping his back to make him stand straight, though, Remus had never slouched in his opinion. The large gash on his back had been throbbing painfully ever since. Remus kept his mood high though. He was enjoying this magical place too much to feel his pain.
Mr. Lupin looked around at the shops and began walking in the general direction that he had tried to avoid all day. He was walking toward the Quidditch shop. His father absolutely loved Quidditch, though he was never good at it. He was just a big fan of the game. He, a grown man had posters of Quidditch players and his favorite teams up in his office at home and at work.
“Remus,” Mr. Lupin said almost pleadingly. “Just for a moment! I know your not the big fan of Quidditch that I am, but, I wont take long!” He said.
Remus laughed at his dad and nodded. “Of course, we can look!” He said catching up to his father, his mom right behind him. They stepped into the Qudditch shop and were immediately overwhelmed with an annoying salesman, no doubt new to Quidditch supplies.
“Hello! We have a lovely selection of Shooting Stars here, perfect for beginners!” The salesman said, indicating Remus as he pointed to a bundle of brooms that weren’t even Shooting Stars. They were the new Cleansweeps, best brooms around these days.
Mr. Lupin looked from the salesman to the brooms he’d incorrectly labeled and shook his head with a polite smile. “No thank you. We’re just looking.” He said and he grabbed his son's shoulders and walked him towards the book section of the Quidditch shop.
Remus’s eyes followed the sad salesman’s figure as he walked to the owner of the shop. He had a grumpy look on his old face, shaking his head at the young man.
“This is a Quidditch shop! Not a dang furniture store!” He said pulling the man behind the counter. “Work the counter a bit.” He said as he walked away, still shaking his head in disappointment.
Remus had been looking through a new book about the Irish team’s victory over England with his father when he heard his mom speaking to someone.
“Eleanor! Well, how nice to see you here! I completely forgot, you have a young one too!” She said walking up to a woman with dark brown hair and glasses, giving her a hug. Remus instantly guessed that this was a woman from work, seeing as he had never seen this woman called Eleanor in his life.
“Carrie! Its great to run into you! And, yes James! He’s very excited. He dragged us into this shop! Wants to play Quidditch! He knows he cant his first year, but he’s determined! He’s still not getting a broom from us!” She said smiling, trying to find her son while she spoke.
“Well, you know boys! Once they have there mind set…” She began, but Eleanor interrupted.
“Yes, I know!” She said chuckling.
“Remus, my son, is a first year as well! We were so excited when he got his letter!” She said smiling; she turned back to where Remus had been standing, but he wasn’t there. “Oh, he must have run off to look at a broom or something!” Mrs. Lupin said, turning back to Mrs. Potter, enjoying more small talk.
Remus had walked off in the direction of the new Cleansweeps. If he was going to be in this shop he might as well look at the best brooms.
“Aren’t they great?” Remus turned to see a boy that looked his age with black, extremely messy hair and round glasses gazing up at the broom on display. “Best broom gold can buy! You know these brooms have only been out since July!” The boy said smiling at the broom. Since Remus still hadn’t said anything the boy turned to him with a smile on his face. “I’m James Potter!” He said with pride.
“Oh, I’m Remus! Remus Lupin.” Remus replied.
“If you don’t mind me asking, what happened?” The boy said in a low whisper, pointing at Remus’s face. The small scars and scratches were still there from the last full moon. Remus stiffened and started blubbering about falling in a bush. “Hey, you didn’t have to answer! It’s none of my business!” James said smiling. “Anyway, wouldn’t you like to ride one of those?” He said pointing once more up at the broom.
Remus, happy for the change of subject and feeling a little less uncomfortable, smiled. “Yeah, I guess so. I’m not much for Quidditch.” He said truthfully.
“What! Quidditch is amazing! I’m going to join the team!!” The boy said, looking at Remus like he was crazy. “Anyway, I’m already pretty good at it! I’ve been practicing.” He finished.
“It’s almost impossible to join the team you first year.” Remus said also looking at the broom, imagining himself playing Quidditch against huge seventh years! He inwardly shuddered.
“Yeah, well I’m gunna make it possible!” The boy named James said ruffling his hair. Remus thought it was odd that he shuffled his hair for no reason, making it even messier and out of place than before. Remus shrugged it off looked around the shop. His father was reading a new book and his mother was still talking joyfully to Mrs. Potter.
“I’ll see you at school okay!” Remus said shaking the boy’s hand. “I have a craving for ice cream!” He said with a smile. Maybe the two of them could be friends.
The boy shook his hand and then went over to his father and started begging for a broom.
“Mum, dad, I’m going to Floreans. Meet me there when you’re finished.” He said, and he walked out of the shop. It seemed like neither of them heard their son because moments later the two of them were searching the shop for Remus. The last time they had lost him…… They never forgave themselves.
Out in the street you could hear Mrs. Lupin frantically asking people if they had seen her son, tears falling down her face…
Remus walked into the shop and ordered a vanilla flavored ice cream and took a seat by himself at a table. Across the room Remus noticed a table of four, laughing and talking. Two of them looked his age. One with fire red hair and the other with greasy black hair. The older two looked to be the girl’s parents. Remus smiled at the four and went back to his ice cream.
“REMUS!!” He heard a familiar voice screech from the front of the shop. Remus looked on his mother’s frantic expression as she ran over to him. He couldn’t help but feel a little embarrassed.
Carrie Lupin ran to her son and embraced him in a very tight, air constricting hug.
“Mum, I’m fine.” He whispered, hugging his mother back, understanding her fright…
She pulled away with a teary smile on her face. “I thought. I thought I lost you.” She said gaining composure once more.
She hugged him tightly again and the two walked out of the shop, arms around each other.
When they got to the street, Remus saw his dad asking an old warlock if he’d seen a young, light brown haired boy with scratches on his face.
Mr. Lupin saw his family and ran over to them with a smile. “There you are! Thought we lost you for a bit!” His father said, having gained his sanity at the sight of them.
“Are we ready to go now?” Mrs. Lupin asked, still a bit shaken.
“Yes. I have all my supplies. We can go.” Remus said giving his mother a smile, his arm still around her waist. The three of them walked off toward the Leaky Cauldron. Remus gave one last look at Diagon Alley and the disappeared behind the pubs door…

LOL I keep wanting to blurt out my ideas for the plots of the school years I have! lol Its KILLING me! lol But, then this story wouldnt be very good if I blurted what would happen! lol Do you know how looooooong each school year is going to take to write? A long time! I hope you guys stick with me through it all!!! I LOVE you guys!
