Prolouge:

"Listen." Whispered Vanessa, her hand on Remus' chest. "It's your heartbeat. Everyone has a heart, and everyone's is different. If having a heart isn't what makes us human, then it must be our feelings - our personality." Vanessa took Remus's hands in hers.

"If being loyal, brave, deceitful, hateful, loving, caring, kind, arrogant, ignorant, sly - and if feeling alone, unwanted, loved and hated is what makes us human..." She leant slightly towards him. "If thats what makes us humans - then you're more human than any of us." And then she kissed him, and in that moment all the worries and hardships of the world couldn't have made Remus Lupin any less human than anyone else.

Remus.J.Lupin's parents were very happy to have had a child. He was the begining of their new life as a family... It wouldn't always be like that...

Before Remus was even six, he had gone out to play with some of his young to-be-Wizard friends. His mother had warned him when his friends had come to pick him up. "Don't stay out too late, Remus. It's a full moon tonight and we trust you to stay away from the dark forest."
"I know mum."
"If you hear a howl then run straight home, darling!" Remus' mother called as he ran off with his friends...

It wasn't long before trouble brewed. Remus and his friends were playing Quidditch on some of Gary's brooms, when suddenly Remus's broom wobbled and he fell off. He got up from the dirt and mud, and looked upwards to see his friends - but only Gary was still there. "RUN, REMUS, RUN!!!!!" He shouted down to Remus, before flying dramatically off.

Remus turned to look behind him, and was immediantly cast into shadow by the full moon... And there, barely a foot away from him; was the grey but silvery blur of a werewolf. It's breath was manky and discusting, his teeth bloody and razor sharp. Remus whimpered and started backing away... Running... But he wasn't quick enough and he screamed out for his mother as the werewolf savaged him...

When Remus didn't return home, his mother (Gabrielle), got worried. Frank (his father) persuaded Gabrielle to wait till morning, and when it was morning; and the moon had waned, it didn't take long to find poor Remus.

He was barely alive, but even though he was brought back to full health, the werewolf had done his damage; and now Remus was one of them...

No matter what Gabrielle and Frank tried, there was no cure. Remus' childhood went from brilliant - to hell. Every day was like a curse to him. Every day he would have to walk down to his school alone. Every day his so-called-friends at Wizard's & Witch's Primary Spellpen School would run away or scream at him if he came near. Every day his teachers would cower from him; and the canteen staff would give him only the scraps of fat from the pan - saying that he was "A filthy, untrustworthy unhuman thing."

And every night Remus' dad would speak a little less to him. Every night his mother would pray, cry, and hug him.

Every night Remus.J.Lupin would cry himself to sleep... Believing that from that one, single, day; his life had gone downhill, and that now... That now he was on his own...

How wrong he was...

Remus was eleven.
It was just another Wednesday morning. Remus grabbed some toast and was about to leave for school... when... SCREECH!!! An owl fluttered in through the window and onto Remus' shoulder. It stuck out it's leg expectantly, and Remus took the letter, opened it; read it, re-read it and laughed happily! "Mum!" He called.
He rushed towards her and threw her the letter. She read it several times and then grinned broadly. "Oh, oh this is so wounderful! And, oh, Professor Dumbledore is so kind; letting you attend Hogwarts and all that. But what does he mean by 'All shall be sorted upon arrival'..." But her worried expression faded as she saw her son's face. "We'll go to Diagon Alley tomorrow." She promised. Remus grinned and ran to school, feeling like he could fly; and ignoring the horrible life he was about to leave behind.

Remus and his mum left the very next morning for Diagon Alley. They shopped at nearly every shop, chose his new Hogwart's uniform, bought his new books (and a few extra ones for spare time), bought his cauldron; and finally, they entered Ollivander's Wand Shop. Remus was very nervous as he waited for Mr.Ollivander. Ollivander hardly said a thing as he measured Remus' right wand arm. He looked at Remus closely and gave him a wand from a very, very old; and incredibly dusty box.

Remus took it, and before he could wave it; a draught blew his hair and his robes, and a feeling of power flowed up his arm - just before Mr.Olllivander snatched the wand back. "It's yours. Wanted to be rid of it for ages, never the right person..." Remus's mum paid for it and then they went to buy some ice cream.

"Remus, darling; I'll be taking you to Platform 9 3/4 next month, and I want you to read those books, ok?"
Remus nodded.
"Lets go home now darling."
Remus was so excited, he couldn't wait to go to Hogwarts. But he couldn't help but have that nagging feeling, that maybe they'd find out he was a Werewolf; maybe it would be worse than his old school.
But still, Remus couldn't forget Professor Dumbledore's words: 'All shall be sorted upon arrival'...

I'm hoping to make things nicer for Remus as he goes to Hogwarts. Hopefully, this will be a slightly longer post.

On September 1st, Gabrielle woke her son as usual; then went downstairs to make breakfast for them. When she got downstairs, however, she met her Wizard husband; Frank.
"You're up early today, Frank." Smiled Gabrielle as she went about making breakfast.
"I... I felt... bad." Frank replied, standing. "It's all my fault that Remus is how he is... How he was treated at school..."
"What do you mean, honey?"
"If I... If I hadn't insulted that mangy werewolf, Greyback, none of this would've ever happened!!!" Frank hit the table with his mug.
Gabrielle was silent for a moment. "Darling... We.. We all make mistakes, we all do some things wrong. But in the end, we turn out better people. Who knows, if Remus hadn't been bitten; he might've not been that lovely, caring, polite boy he is today." She put a hand on Frank's shoulder. "Frank, it's his first day at school today. It's our job to act cheerful and happy for him - which we should be anyway. Today could very well be the best or worst day of his life - that, in part, rests on us... Now, c'mon, help me make breakfast."

Frank nodded, and when Remus finally came downstairs, he was greeted by two smiling parents; and a plate full of pancakes. "Wow, pancakes! Thanks Mum... Dad." Remus smiled a little at his dad, who had not done anything for him in ages, before sitting and eating his pancakes.

2 hours later, Remus and his mother were on Platform 9 3/4, after having dissapariated half a mile away; walked to the Muggle station, and crossed through the barrier. Gabrielle smiled warmly at Remus. "Goodbye, Remus. Remember to write often and - make friends." She kissed him softly on the cheek, before letting him board the Hogwarts Express.

Remus walked down some corridors, until he found an empty compartment. He sank into a seat, pushed his trunk above him; and got out his baby black owl to stroke. Remus waved goodbye to his mum, whilst his owl (name of: Shoot) hooted happily. A few minutes later, a tall-ish boy with messy black hair and black glasses appeared in the doorway.
"Hello, do you mind if I join you?" The boy asked. Remus was a little suprised that anyone actually wanted to sit with him, but of course, they didn't know what he was yet.
"Uh, sure." Remus replied, gestering to the seats around him.
"Thanks." The boy sat down, pushed his trunk and owl cage above him, and then turned to Remus and asked, "What's your name? My name is James Potter."
Remus was even more suprised now. "Remus.J.Lupin." Remus replied. James was about to say something else, when another black-haired boy appeared in the doorway, he was shadowed by a small boy who seemed to - by the expression on his face - think the world of the new boy in the doorway.
"Hi there, I'm Sirius Black; this is, uh, what's your name again?"
"Peter Pettigrew!" Answered the small boy.
"Yea, that's it. Do you mind if we join you?"
Before Remus could reply, James had already stood up and walked over to Sirius. "I'm James Potter, and this is Remus.J.Lupin, and of course we don't mind you coming in - the more the better!"
Sirius smiled a charming, girl melting smile. "Thanks." Sirius threw his trunk above them, then chose the seat next to James, stretching his legs over the remainder of the chairs so that Peter was forced to sit next to Remus.

"What's the 'J' for then?" Sirius asked Remus.
"Pardon?"
"The 'J' in the middle of your name?"
"Oh, John." Remus looked slightly embaressed. "My dad wanted me to be called that, but my mum said it wasn't magical enough."
Sirius grinned. "I can only imagine what I would of been called if I was a girl." He leant back in his chair. "So... What house do you think you'll get in? My mum says I'll be in Slytherin, because that's where the rest of the family went, because they're 'Pureblood'. I hope I'm in Griffindor though."
James smiled at Sirius. "My mum reckons I'll be in Griffindor too. I wonder if we'd be in the same dorm... What about you, Remus?"
"My mum reckons Ravenclaw, though my dad says I'd be better in Griffindor - can't see why though... I'm not that brave. What about you Peter?"
"I-I dunno." Peter squeaked.
The four boys looked at each other. Sirius then said, "My mum says I have to be careful who I choose as friends - they got to have the right background and all that..." He looked around at James, Remus, and Peter. "But I think I've already found the perfect friends." Sirius smiled at them all. "Friends?" He put his wand tip in the middle.
"Yea!" James did the same.
Remus just smiled, one of the first true smiles since childhood. He also put his wand tip in the middle.
"Really? Me be f-friends with y-you?" Stuttered Peter, amazed. Everyone smiled and nodded, and Peter hurridly put his wand tip in the middle too.
"Alright!" Laughed Sirius, and they all lifted their wands so that the sparks that emitted from the tips merged together.
"So uncouth..." Sighed Remus, but he was grinning and laughing all the same.

Here we go:

Soon after Remus, Sirius, James and Peter became friends; the trolley Witch arrived with some food.

"What do you want dearies?" She asked. Sirius leapt up.
"One of everything please. Except the black liqorice and those fluffy things."
"The MouldyFungi? Oh, I don't blame you there." She replied, handing over one of everything - minus the black liqorice and MouldyFungi. "That will be one galleon, and eleven sickles please." After Sirius had handed over the money, Peter got up.
"O-one p-packet of t-those, p-please." He stuttered, pointing to some Bertie Bott Every Flavour Beans.
"Here you are - five sickles please."

Then it was Remus' turn. His parents were stable in their finances. They had neither alot or very little; but still, Remus didn't want to spend too much money on food that he could get free at Hogwarts.
"Five chocolate frogs, please."
"Five? Going to eat them all yourself, then?"
"No, I'm collecting."
"Oh yes, the Famous Wizards And Witches cards. Five sickles, please."
Then it was James' turn. "Can I have--" But he stopped talking half-way through a sentance. A girl with long, auburn hair, and dazzling green eyes had suddenly appeared behind the trolley.
"Excuse me." She smiled at the Witch. "May I see your selection?"
"Of course." Replied the Witch. "Now, young man. What were you saying?"
"N-nothing. I'm... Not hungry..." He stared at the girl.

"Excuse me again," The girl interrupted. "But what are these?" She pointed to some chocolate frogs. Before the Witch could reply, James did.
"They're Chocolate Frogs, see." He grabbed one and opened it. The frog leapt out onto the girl's hair and she screamed. "Oh! Sorry!" He tried to grab the frog but it just hopped off down the corridor. "You're supposed to eat it..." He added sheepily.

"Well thanks for telling me it jumped!!!" She shouted, angry. "Who do you think you're fooling!?!"
"Well, I'm not sure... C-considering I don't know your n-name. I'm James Potter." James stammered, lost for words.
The girl calmed down slightly. "I'm Lily Evans. I'm sorry, I have a very short temper. See you." She turned and left James standing there with an empty Chocolate Frog wrapper clenched in his hand.

"You still need to pay for that." The Witch stuck out her hand expectantly.
James paid her and she walked off.

"Nice going, mate." Grinned Sirius cheekily as James sat back down and closed the door.
"Really Sirius, don't encourage him."
Sirius looked up at Remus with a slight frown. "I was being sarcastic."
"I know that."
Sirius grinned. He turned to James. "Look mate, what you need is a plan to get her to like you. Now I suggest--"

Remus just shook his head, smiling ever so slightly as he listened to their ridiculus plans. They'll never work... He thought to himself...
