Dear Diary, I know I haven't written for like four years or so, but you know, I forgot.. okey? Sorry. This is the thing, I decided to begin again. Strange? Yeah, but I really need someone to talk to. So much has happened since I was seven and couldn't even spell the words right... Like now I'm eleven (cool) and I have absolutely no friends at all (uncool) Hate everything. My only friend, Ewa, moved a month ago sooo far away. It's like I'm never gonna see her again, feels so empty inside... :'( well my problem is, no one likes me. Everybody thinks I'm a nutter, an ugly and boring person. I don't know how it all happened. Last month I had fun with Ewa, now I spend the breaks at school inside, or walking around alone.. sad... Hate everything and everybody, except you dear diary, if you want to listen to me...

I took away the old pages with me writing like "today it was fun. it was snow." and childish stuff like that.. So now I have to make a new presentation of my self. Like that, I mean I like introducing myself.

I'm Lizzie. I am 11 years old and I live just outside of London. I live with my parents, my mum makes awesome cookies and my dad is a teacher, and my older brother John. He is kind of my idol, I really love everything he does, and he is a fantastic skater. I go to school, of course, and (as I said) used to have a best friend called Ewa. After school I liked to play with Ewa, but now I mostly just go home and watch TV. Sometimes John is home in the afternoons and then he plays with me. I love those afternoons. Right now my life kinda sucks.

I wish I could move, like Ewa did. I could go to another school, make new friends. You wanna know what happened the other day? I dunno how I did it, but... I'll tell you from the start: the boys at school played soccer, you see, and they started to kick the ball at me. It did hurt a lot, so I tried to go away, but they kept standing in my way. Then suddenly the ball went out of the hands of one of the boys and started to bump on his head! And they all went crazy and I took my chance and ran away. But I swear, it was soo cool, like magic. I hope they will leave me alone from now on… But I bet I'll be bullied at school on Monday. Hate it!

Anyway, now I have to go, mum needs my help in the kitchen. But I'll write more soon, promise I won't forget again... 'til then, byebye (L)

You will never believer this, dear diary!!! Today I got this strange letter from a school, saying they wanted me to go there. The name of the school is Hogwarts, and the letter was delivered by a woman who wore the funniest clothes I’ve ever seen, a swimsuit and a long red skirt. Mum thought it was a drunk and wouldn’t let her in at first, but then she made the car disappear (and reappear) using a stick of wood, and surprised as mum was, she let her in. She said her name was Professor McGonagall, and that she was teaching at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She then told us (me, mum looking shocked, dad looking scared and John looking impressed) that I was a witch, and that I was welcome to go to this school of wizardry. Guess if I was shocked! She showed us some tricks to prove what she said, and then gave us the address to an alley where we would go shopping for all the things I needed for school. I’ve read the list from the letter, and there are many strange things I have to buy. Like a cauldron, a wand and an owl (!). Oh my god, this can’t be happening, I have to pinch my arm all the time to be sure it’s not a dream. Oh my god I’m a witch!! And I‘ll go to a special school for witches! That means there must be a lot of them, I mean us!!! I simply can’t sleep, not a chance. There are so many things I want to know. The professor told us how to enter the alley (the innkeeper at the Leaky Cauldron is named Tom) and when and where I shall catch the train to Hogwarts!!! I can’t possible sleep. No way.

This is my chance to get a new start. I will get lot’s of friends, I’m sure. I wonder if all witches and wizards come from total muggle families? (muggle is someone who is not a witch or a wizard, the professor told me) Or are there whole wizard-families? I have so much to think about. I will…

Ohh parent alarm going!! Dad’s getting up to check if I’m asleep, I’ll write more tomorrow. Good night xD

Dear dear diary, this is the most amazing thing that’s ever happened to me. I am a witch! It’s sooo cool. Today, mum and dad had a long talk with me and John, we had to decide whether to believe in it or not. Or, to be exact, they had to decide, since I’m already sure that it’s completely true. But the awesome thing happened, I got angry when they didn’t decide quickly enough, and suddenly the tablecloth was on fire!!! Mum went totally nuts, screaming and all. Dad just got the fire extinguisher and then the whole table was white. Mum began to cry, saying she couldn’t possibly be without me for a whole year, but dad said I’d be home again for Christmas. Then dad seriously told us that we couldn't, by any conditions, tell anyone about my “special talents”. Hehe so silly, like I would have anyone to tell at all. What do they think, that I will just walk up to the mean boys in school and say “Hi, I’m Lizzie. By the way, I’m a witch. I go to a school named Hogwarts where they educate young witches and wizards. See you!” Stupid… I would be bullied for a year…

Now I’m here again, diary, impossible to sleep, with all I have to think through. Some of the sentences in the letter are etched in my brain. We are pleased to inform you… Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry… Term begins on 1 September… We await your owl… First-years are not allowed their own broomsticks… I can’t wait… Everything’s happening now, and tomorrow we’re gonna visit this “Diagon Alley” where wizards go shopping, I suppose. Mum and dad had told the principal of my school that I’ll not be at school tomorrow, and that I will change to another school 1 september. But tomorrow, it’s gonna be so much fun, I want it to be tomorrow now now now!!! But, I gotta sleep now ‘cause I don’t wanna be tired tomorrow, don’t wanna miss all the fun

Sorry I didn’t write yesterday, I had to much to think about, and I had to check out all my books. They’re amazing, but kinda hard to read. Everything’s old style and they use old words everywhere. But I try to read them anyway. I mean, what if you get a test first day? Or someone who knows a lot about wizardry asks you something you don’t know?? Scary… I think there must be wizard-families, ‘cause the most famous ones are written down in a book I bought. It’s called “The oldest magic families and what they left for us”. I think it’s a silly book actually, but dad thought it would be good for me to know something about some famous wizards. One of the most famous ones seems to be Albus Dumbleore, the headmaster at Hogwarts. And there have been several evil wizards over the years. Like ten years ago there was this one named Voldemort, but his name is forbidden to say. He died when I was one years old, and it’s the most famous happening in the new magic “history”, because he was killed by a little boy named Harry Potter. I don’t know how, but I suppose he did something wrong with the killing…

But anyway, except for my books, I got long black robes at “Madam Malkin’s”. All the wizards and witches wear them, and people in the alley looked strange at us as we wore normal clothes. I also got a cauldron and some other things to use at potion class, a wand (from Ollivader’s. It’s ten and a half inches, made of ebony and a hair from a unicorn. I though there weren’t any such thing as unicorns, but Mr. Ollivander told me not to be silly) and (this is the best!!!) an owl! She’s so beautiful, and I’ve named her Luna, since she is just as beautiful as the moon. She is light brown with intelligent eyes. I keep her in a cage, but I have let her out in my room once already, and she flew to the bed and sat there for some time before returning to the cage. She’s wonderful!!

Today I was in school, but it felt distant, like I had already left. I didn’t even care when the boys were mean, I just kept thinking about Luna and my new robes, and the fact that there’s only five days left!!!

Dear Diary, I have never been so nervous in my whole life. Once I had to spell exhausted in front of the whole class, but that’s nothing compared to this… My belly is full of butterflies, my knees are shaking and I feel like I have candyfloss inside my head. I have been awake for half an hour and I can’t possible get back to sleep. The train to Hogwarts leaves at eleven o’clock. I’m supposed to walk through the divide between platform nine and ten to get to platform nine and three quarters… Can you believe it? Not me either… I have decided to change to my robes on the train, because I don’t wanna show up at Kings Cross wearing long black robes. I feel soo nervous, nothing can be worse than this, or better. I’m gonna bring you, diary, on the train to write in, so I’ll hopefully be able to tell you a bit about everything happening in a train full of witches and wizards. Ohh I can’t wait… The minutes are being so long and slow. I’m gonna point my wand at the clock making it go faster. Though, I don’t know any spells yet, and you know what? I’m not allowed to use magic at home during Christmas or summer. Isn’t that horrible?!?! Otherwise I could get famous as a witch and earn money with a travelling magic-show! Wow… Can’t wait for the clock to ring, to say that it’s time to get up and have breakfast, and then go! But of curse I’ll miss my family a lot. But I’ll send them a letter with Luna every week. I promised John yesterday to tell him everything about Hogwarts, my classes, my friends, where I sleep and what there is to do. And about the magic of curse. It’s a pity he’s not a wizard, because he would probably make a good one. Ohh I’ll miss him so much! *drying tears* And mum and dad of curse.

Now don’t know anything else to write, and by the way I have to concentrate on my breathing, because otherwise I’m gonna faint when entering Hogwarts, I just know it. So sorry diary, but I’ll write more later, on the train. Until then, bye

I’m on my way, dear diary!! I’m on my way to Hogwarts! The whole family arrived at Kings Cross at twenty minutes to eleven, I was sweating because I was so nervous. At once you could tell that it was the right time and place, because there were owls and toads and cats to see everywhere. Luna was excellent, didn’t say a word. She kept looking around, and she got a bit scared when we passed through the wall between the platforms. John and I went first, followed by mum and dad. At platform 9 ¾ it was very noisy. Parents hugging their kids goodbye, and lots of owls screaming. John helped me to get my bag onboard, and then I went back to hug them all. But then I had to hurry back on the train, ‘cause I was afraid it would leave without me. It didn’t. I searched through the corridor to find somewhere to sit, and I was extremely nervous. After a while I passed a compartment where I could see a young boy with black hair and a lightening scar sitting next to another boy, this one with bright red hair and dirt on his nose. I think the black-headed one was the famous Harry Potter, and I reckon he’s the same age as me. I continued and found a compartment with some girls. They seemed to be the same age as me, so I nicely asked if I could join them. They let me in at once. Their names are Lavender Brown, Parvati and Padma Patil (twins), Hermione Granger and Susan Bones. They all told me a bit about them selves, and I’m gonna tell you a bit:

Lavender is a very nice girl, but talks mostly about her self. She’s a pureblood, as she said (I didn’t know there were special words for different families) and very beautiful, I think.
Parvati is dark-haired and very kind. I think she and Padma are from India, but I didn’t ask. Neither did I ask about their blood, but from what I guess from our conversation, she’s pureblood or halfblood (one parent is magical, one’s a muggle). Padma looks just like her sister. They both have dark brown eyes. Hermione has brown, curly hair and friendly brown eyes. She seems to be very smart. When we started to discuss the books, she told us she had read them all and could the content backwards and forwards. I think she’s a bit selfish, but also the friendliest girl around. Susan is cute, with her hair in pigtails, she looks like a little girl. But she knows many funny jokes, and made us all laugh. When we were all sitting there some boys came running past out compartment, screaming. Hermione raised at once and went to look for the source of the running. When she came back later, she was angry and told us all that everybody seemed to have changed to robes, so we did too. It was strange trying to walk in them, but that didn’t bother me much. Now the twins are talking about something named quidditch, Susan is listening and Hermione is rereading “A History of Magic”. I decided to write some about the trip. Now Hermione says we are almost there, so I gotta go. See yaa

Hi dear diary, I’m lying in my bed, it’s a four-posters hung with blue velvet curtains, and there are three more beds in the room. I think the other girls are asleep, but I couldn’t sleep before telling you everything that has happened since I wrote on the train. We arrived to a little village named Hogsmeade, and all the first-years had to follow an enormous man to some small boats. I shared a boat with Padma and Parvati, and a girl named Mandy Brocklehurst. We went over a big lake, and then we could all see it. The castle was huge, and looked kinda scary. Suddenly we arrived to a haven on the other shore, and walked the last part. When we finally stood before the huge, oak front door, the gigantic man called Hagrid knocked three times and the professor that had visited me a few weeks ago came into view. We entered a big Entrance Hall, and everybody looked impressed. A marble staircase in front of us led to the upper floors. We passed the entrance to the Great Hall, and I could hear the rest of the school being in there. We were led into a small empty chamber and the professor started telling us that we would be sorted into our houses. I swear I could feel my knees shaking, I was scared to death. Around me I could hear people talking about how we would be sorted, and when I heard someone mention a troll, I felt sick. Then Mandy Broklehurst started to scream, and when I turned around, so did I!! Some silver-white ghosts were slowly “walking” towards us. Everybody just stared. Then the fat ghost presented himself as “The fat friar” and welcomed us. I felt stunned as I followed Professor McGonagall and the rest of the scared kids through the Entrance Hall behind Hermione, and into the Great Hall. I can’t describe it in here with words, because it was so beautiful. But I can say that there were candles floating in midair, thousands of them, and the wonderful roof was full of stars. Hermione turned around to me and whispered that she had read in some book that is was bewitched to look like the sky. I turned looked down, and saw lots of faces staring at us. Some people seemed to be whispering, and many people turned around and looked at Harry Potter. I don’t know if you’ve ever felt like your whole life depends on one moment? Well, I did now. When my name was called, I got up and put on a big, black hat, and it started to discuss inside my head whether I was to be in this one, or this one… finally (it felt like hundred years had past) it called out Ravenclaw! And I got seated at one table, feeling my red face burning. It was so embarrassing to stand in front of all those people I don’t know!! And what if they heard what the hat said in my ear? It discussed if I was clever enough to be in Ravenclaw, since the most clever students are usually there, and that’s not something you want the whole school to hear. But I don’t think they did.

Anyway, I sat down next to Mandy Brocklehurst, who I had met earlier, and we got company from a beautiful girl called Lisa Turpin, and one of the Patil-twins, Padma. I was glad to end up with Mandy and Padma that I already had met, but even Lisa seemed to be a nice girl. The first year boys in Ravenclaw are Anthony Goldstein, Michael Corner and Terry Boot. After the principal (Dumbledore) had said some words (stupid words that I don’t remember exactly right now, but anyway, he sounded nuts) and we had had our dinner, we followed a girl who everyone called Penny (Penelope Clearwater I think her name is, she’s prefect) to our common room, which is situated in the tower on the west side of the school, Penny told us. The strangest thing happened as we got close to the entrance. Penny told us you have to answer a question to get inside, and only a Ravenclaw is clever enough to come up with the right answer. We entered the common room, which is round and decorated with blue curtains. The ceiling is painted with stars, and a statue of the founder of the Ravenclaw house, Rowena.

I’m now lying in my bed, and I think about the amazing day I’ve had. I have already written to mum and dad, almost the same as I write to you, dear diary. I share the room with Mandy, Lisa and Padma. They’re all very nice, and we had a long talk before we decided to go to bed, since Lisa said that according to her older siblings, lessons start tomorrow already. That’s nice. I can’t wait to learn magic, it’s gonna be so much fun!! Hope to be able to write soon,

Hi diary,
It’s lunch time, I just finished my first morning with lessons in magic!! Our first lesson was Charms, with professor Flitwick. He’s the smallest man I’ve every seen, and he looks rather funny. At the lesson, which we had with the first years from Gryffindor, he fell from his pile of books when he realised that Harry Potter was in his class. I think they’re all making such a fuzz about him, I wouldn’t like it if people kept staring at me all the time. But we all (potter as well) had to concentrate really hard, because magic was really difficult! John would probably say “How hard can it be to wave a wand?”, but that’s not all. You have to learn a lot of theory, and start very small. Like in our first Transfiguration class, with Professor McGonagall. She turned the desk to a pig and back, but we had to write a lot, and then we got to try and turn a match into a needle. It was fun at first, because every time you tried, you were expecting it to really happen. But it didn’t, so it got boring after some time. Finally it was only Hermione who had succeeded, and some boy in my house asked another one why that Granger-girl wasn’t in Ravenclaw, since she’s so bright. But, obviously, she’s got to be braver than smart, since she ended up in Gryffindor.

After these lessons, I joined Mandy (Lisa and Padma had already left) to the Great Hall. We got lost on the way and met Peeves, the poltergeist. He started to haunt us down some stairs, but we met Percy, the prefect of Gryffindor, and Penny, our prefect, and they told Peeves to get lost. We were a bit late for lunch, so Lisa and Padma had already left. Now I’m sitting in our common room, waiting for Mandy who is in the owl tower, sending an owl to her mum to tell her she’s alright, and got into Ravenclaw. I think she’s a very nice girl, Mandy, and I’m beginning to like her more than Padma and Lisa. Padma is always talking about the fun things she’s done with her sister, Parvati. She seems to think she’s got to tell me and Mandy (who is a half-blood) everything about the wizarding world all the time, which is very annoying. Mandy didn’t know she was a witch before getting her letter, because her father said he would leave her mother if anyone ever got to know about her being a witch and all. She didn’t tell him she was a witch until right after Mandy was born, and since she didn’t want to be a single mum, she didn’t tell Mandy about it. But when Mandy got the letter, and her mum told her the whole story, her father left them. Therefore, Mandy’s gonna send letters almost every day to make sure her mum’s alright, all alone in their house. I feel very sorry for Mandy, because it’s not her fault that her father’s an idiot, or that she’s a witch. She didn’t pick her parents, right?! Anyway, I’m waiting for her. I like the common room, except the fact that you have to answer to these questions to get in. Like today, I got this question “If the life of mankind is a road, what is the birth of a child?” And I was like totally lost. What is the birth of a child? I was in a hurry, because I didn’t want to stay outside when those last year students were getting closer. So I concentrated, and got an answer. “The birth of one child is just a part of the road.” Am I amazing or what!?! LOL I ROCK!!! And it was the right one, and so I got inside!!! Wow… yeeeaaah

Now Mandy has come back, and is walking towards me, so I gotta go. We’re having out first class of Herbology, which will be cool. We’ll visit the greenhouses and everything, and there are lots of magic plants, Padma told us yesterday evening. Coolish, see you soon…

Dear Diary,
I’ve just had the most amazing week in my life. Wednesday, we learned how to fly!! It was brilliant, even though I wasn’t really the best flyer in my class or anything. The first-years from Gryffindor and Slytherin had their flying lesson before us, and there’s a rumour that the famous Potter turned out to be a great flyer and is now allowed to be in the Quidditchteam. That’s so unfair! Why should he have special rules just because he’s famous. Lisa Turpin, for example, she has played quidditch (I totally forgot to tell, quidditch is a sport, you play it on brooms, flying in the air!) since she was five years old with her older siblings. So why can’t she be in our team? So not right!

Anyway, on Thursday we had charms, and it was really hard, which most lessons actually are. I was glad to know that I wasn’t the only one who came from muggle-parents. Like Hermione, she’s a muggleborn as well. She’s a great person, but she is a bit odd, always sitting by her self and everything. I would sit with her if she was in Ravenclaw, but we sit at different tables every meal. When Mandy and I meet her in the corridor we always say hi and all, but she just turns her face the other way and whispers hi. Maybe she’s shy, who knows? But she wasn’t at all acting shy on the train. Well, to be true I don’t think she has a lot of friends in Gryffindor, and would rather be in our house. I feel sorry for her.

Today it’s Saturday, and Mandy, Lisa and I are working on our homework. We do get a lot, really. Professor McGonagall is worst, but I wouldn’t like to tell her that. She thinks we have so much free time to spend on studying. To speak the truth, I think it’s unfair. We should have the weekends free, and not have a lot of homework until Monday! We have to write a lot about poisons to the potion teacher, professor Snape. He’s scary, with black hair and an evil smile. He got so angry at Lisa the other day, because she didn’t know what some ingredient was. He got so angry Lisa almost began to cry, and we all cursed Snape on our way out. I’ve heard that he never yells at the Slytherins, but he is the head of their house… I’m done with my potions homework, so that’s why I can sit here writing this. Mandy’s really having trouble with her essay to Snape. Maybe I should help her a bit. Ooh I almost forgot to tell you, there’s this creepy thing going on in the school. Professor Dumbledore informed us at the feast the first day that the corridor on the third floor is closed this year and forbidden. It is very strange and nobody knows why. Some of the boys in my class (Terry Boot and Anthony Goldstein) have already tried to force the door open. Since we haven’t learnt that much magic yet they didn’t know how to open it with a spell, but they tried very hard with their hands until Filch came. Filch is a strange man walking around the school, scaring most first-years to death. He always seems to know everything that happens. And he has this ugly cat named Mrs Norris. When she’s approaching, run for it, because that means Filch is just a second away.

Now I’ve gotta go, Mandy, Lisa and I are gonna meet Padma in the entrance hall, we’re taking a walk. The older students are in Hogsmeade today, the village where the train arrived. But we're not allowed to yet. So we’ll just walk on the grounds and have a look around.

Hi Diary,
I hope there won’t be more duelling in the corridors, ‘cause it happened the other day (I think it was yesterday…) and the girl the lost the "battle" had to be sent to the hospital wing. Her ears got as big as an elephant’s!! It was fun to watch until Filch came around. He threatened us all with terrible punishments, but I think he was just making them up. Mandy agrees with me, but Lisa got a bit scared. I’m mostly hanging out with Mandy and Lisa, Padma doesn’t wanna be with us. She’s such a *****! I’m so mad at her right now, she thinks she knows everything! Like when we had our first potions lesson, she could all the answers and kept telling me that “Cause I’m from a family of high class” or “My grandmother always knew the right answer to everything, every question” or “My little brother could have answered that question, why didn’t you?”. Oh I hate her right now! How would I know anything about potions, I didn’t even know they existed a few weeks ago!!

The second week went even faster than the first. I managed to find the right way to my charms lesson on Wednesday this week, and that was well done, since the stairs are moving! Like suddenly the stair you’re standing in start to move, and you end up somewhere else than you thought. It’s very confusing.

I have written about a million letters to John, mum and dad, but I think they are afraid of Luna (my owl, if I haven’t told you about her already. I think I have. But just in case) ‘cause their first letter wasn’t even tied to her leg, she had it in her mouth. I guess they didn’t know how to tie it to her leg, so they just let her take it herself, in her mouth. Poor Luna. I’ve told them everything about the castle, the lessons, my friends, the teachers, the magic (of course) and the ghosts. They seem to be everywhere, the ghosts. The ghost of Ravenclaw is a grey lady who always seems to be alone and sad. I don’t know anything about her, but she never speaks to anyone either.

Right now I’m kind of busy, I’ve got much homework for Monday, which I’ve gotta do right now if I don’t wanna be stuck all weekend. But I’ll write more when I’m done, and tell you about what we do at weekends. Like soon there will be a big quidditch-game, which is very exciting. I’m gonna go watch it with Mandy and Lisa, cause they know all the rules and all the players’ names.

But I’ll be back in no time
