I don't know if anyone else has put this so this can be deleted if it has. When Dobby came to warn Harry about something that was going to happen at the school that year (meaning the chamber opening), how did he know about it? How did he know that something was going to happen before it even happened? Dobby lives with the Malfoys so he hears things. Did he hear the Malfoys talking about something that was going to happen? If so, how did the Malfoys know what was going to happen? What do you all think?

Of course they did! Lucius Malfoy gave Ginny the diary, he knew exactly what was going to happen. So Dobby overheard and told Harry...

I wouldn't be suprised if the Death Eaters knew some of the precautions Voldemort took to prevent his demise. Lucius was probably given the diary with instructions from Voldemort before his downfall and waited to use it until Harry was at Hogwarts.

The Deatheaters involved, Lucius, along with naughty boy Draco were probably part of the plan. Crabbe and Goyle's dads are DE's too so Draco would feel free to talk with them too.

yeah, i agree. lucius was very high up in the ranks of death eaters, so he probably knew most of voldemort's plans, and maybe dobby overheard him talking about the diary with other ex-death eaters and then dobby came to warn harry. that would make sense, somehow at least ...

I've always said that lucius knew about the diary's secrets and what would happen...and of course he would of talked about it...maybe not with Draco but with other D.E. So i say dobby definitly overheard lucius talking about it....definitly.

I doubt he would have shared the information with Draco. Lucious doesn't appear, to me, to think much of his son. Draco complains in the book (if I remember correctly) that his father tells him not to get involved. Lucious may buy his child's way into and out of trouble, but I don't think he would risk Draco bragging to his friends at school about his father spreading around Voldemort artifacts.

He may have been conversing with Narcissa. I firmly believe she was somehow involved in all this. They did say that the 2nd and 5th books were key in the future books.

Easy, because Lucius was already planning to do the thing with the diary. He'd probably already decided he was going to use Ginny aswell because he despises the Weasleys.

What I'd like to know is, if Dobby worked for the Malfoys, why did he warn Harry?

Don't you remember what Dobby says? Something along the lines of "If Harry Potter knew what he means to the lowly, the enslaved. After the downfall of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named things improved for our kind." He did it because he didn't want Harry to die, because he respected Harry.

Well obviously he was. We are just not informed of the contact that Lucious and the rest of the DE's have with Voldie. Lucious is one of Voldemort's greatest supporters, along with Bella of course, and Voldemort, it seems, has great respect for them(as his slaves of course).

Because the Malfoys probably talked about it, and Dobby overheard it. That is my answer.

Voldie could have bragged about it, he could have told Lucius that when he gave him the diary (if he did), or he could have heard about it from his own father, Draco's dad. 50 years isn't that far on the gene tree.

Ok question. Ok you know how Tom Riddle left behind the diary? And you know how the Malfoys had it? well wouldnt that make draco and his family like relative to voldemort? Because then how could they have gotten the diary?

I think so the question is what made him go and warn harry about it beacuse he was bound to serve the malfoys for life on the other hand kreacher in the ootp was serveing the Black house (the order HQ) and the Malfoy mansion at the same time

Obviously Dobby knew, why he came to tell Harry IDK. Doesnt Harry ask him why and what did Dobby say I dont remeber?

remember in the book when ron and harry pretended to be the two fat dudes? (whatever their names r) ya, so malfoy was telling them stuff...and then later he said that he wished his father would tell him what was happening. so obviously lucious malfoy knew and he obviously told dobby. so dobby knew, warned harry, but didn't tell harry wat exactly was going to happen because house elves are not supposed to do that.

Well Lucius Malfoy is a Death Eater so, of course, he probably heared form Voldemort what was going ot happen that year.And Dobby overheared Lucius talking to Narcissa, as Parvatifan says.
