Cool West Indies cricket
Frangelina||twitter addict||Music of the Sun

The West Indian cricket team, also known colloquially as the West Indies or the Windies, is a multi-national cricket team representing a sporting confederation of 15 mainly English-speaking Caribbean countries, British dependencies and non-British dependencies.
From the mid 1970s to the early 1990s, the West Indies team was one of the strongest in the world in both Test and One Day International cricket. A number of cricketers considered among the best in the world have hailed from the West Indies; Sir Garfield Sobers, Lance Gibbs, Gordon Greenidge, George Headley, Clive Lloyd, Malcolm Marshall, Andy Roberts, Alvin Kallicharran, Rohan Kanhai and Everton Weekes have all been inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame,[1] while world-record holders Brian Lara and Sir Viv Richards were both West Indies Test players.[2][3] As of 19 June 2009, the West Indian team has played 457 Test matches, winning 33.26%, losing 32.38% and drawing 34.13% of its games.[4]
The West Indies have won the ICC Cricket World Cup twice in 1975 and 1979, the ICC Champions Trophy once in 2004 and have been runners up in the Under 19 Cricket World Cup in 2004 and have been semi finalist in the ICC World Twenty20 in 2009. The first cricket team to win World Cup twice, their record was surpassed by 4 World Cup wins by Australia, and equaled by India in 2011. West Indies are also the first team to win back to back World Cups, since surpassed by 3 consecutive World Cup wins by Australia. West Indies is the first team to appear in 3 consecutive World Cup finals (1975, 1979 and 1983), since surpassed by 4 consecutive World Cup appearances by Australia (1996, 1999, 2003 & 2007).-Wikipedia

Pakistan took a firm grip on the second Test against West Indies, due to a brilliant inning by the opener Taufeeq Umar who posted an unbeaten 97 and took the total to 202 runs when they had lost three wickets.
The Men in Green now have an overall lead of 251 runs and still have seven wickets in hand.
The match is being played at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts from May 20 to May 24, 2011.
Earlier Pakistan won the toss on the first day and elected to bat on a good looking batting wicket. They lost four wickets at 74 runs but reached 272 before they were bowled out in 109.5 overs.
Azhar Ali was the highest scorer with 67 runs followed by Tanvir Ahmed and Umar Akmal who contributed 57 and 56 runs respectively.
Ravi Rampaul and Devendra Bishoo shared three wickets each. Darren Sammy took two wickets and Kemar Roach claimed one.
The West Indians lost both their openers at 22 runs and the third wicket fell at 54 runs.
Marlon Samuels took charge in the middle order and shared a few small partnerships. He was the eighth batsman to go back, after scoring 57 runs, as the total reached 158.

Roach and Rampaul shared a valuable partnership of 60 runs for the ninth wicket and the whole West Indian team went back to the pavilion on 223 runs in 83.5 overs.
Saeed Ajmal and Mohammad Hafeez were the highest wicket takers with three wickets each. Abdur Rehman took two wickets while Tanvir Ahmed and Wahab Riaz shared one each.

Pakistan secured a first inning lead of 49 runs and their openers gave a solid stand of 82 for the first wicket.
Hafeez was the first batsman to go back at 32 runs as Azhar joined Taufeeq Umar.
The pair contributed 76 runs partnership for the second wicket and both batsmen posted fifties in the process. Azhar lost his wicket after scoring 53 runs and Asad Shafiq could not stay longer at the crease.
Asad was the next victim after the addition of just nine runs.
However, Misbah-Ul-Haq came to the crease and gave consolidation to the innings with Taufeeq and took the score to 202.
Taufeeq was unbeaten and requires another three runs to complete his deserving century whereas Misbah was playing at 13.
The West Indian fielding was not up to mark as they dropped a few important catches.
Roach, Sammy and Bishoo claimed one wicket each from the Caribbeans.
Pakistan is in a good position and can end this match with a victor, drawing the two-match Test Series.

Windies have to bat to save 2nd Digicel Test

Digicel Series

Basseterre, St Kitts, CMC – West Indies were left needing a huge batting performance to save the Second Digicel Test after Pakistan dismissed their top order, leaving them well adrift of a victory target of 427 on Monday.

The hosts ended the fourth day at Warner Park on 130-5, still needing a further 297 runs on the final day Tuesday to win the match and complete a 2-0 sweep of the series.

Stylish left-hander Dwayne Bravo defied a turning pitch and the Pakistani spinners to stroke an even 50 but his demise late in the day left the Windies with a major task to at least avoiding defeat.

At the close Vice-captain Brendan Nash was unbeaten on 30 at the close while opener Lendl Simmons hit 24.

Left-arm spinner Abdur Rehman wreaked havoc with three for 26 though dangerous off-spinners Saeed Ajmal and Mohammed Hafeez have both gone wicket-less in 27 overs between them.

Earlier, opener Taufeeq Umar registered his fifth Test century and captain Misbah-ul-Haq struck his third, as Pakistan declared their second innings at 377-6 after resuming the day on 202-3.

Taufeeq equalled his highest Test score with 135 – his first hundred in nearly eight years – while Misbah scored an unbeaten 102, in a partnership that yielded 129 runs for the fourth wicket.

Set a big target, West Indies were in early trouble when teenaged opener Kraigg Brathwaite lost his off-stump to seamer Tanvir Ahmed off the fifth ball he faced, playing back to an off-cutter in the third over.

Bravo then counter-attacked in a 54-run second wicket stand with Simmons, smashing two thunderous sixes straight back overhead off Abdur Rehman, while also counting two fours in his 144-ball knock.

The right-handed Simmons hit two fours off 57 balls but never looked settled and sliced Abdur Rehman to Hafeez at slip at 59 for two. The experienced Ramanresh Sarwan faced just four balls before being given out lbw on referral in the bowler’s next over, after the initial appeal was turned down.

Marlon Samuels, top scorer in the first innings, had no such luck this time around as he laboured 33 balls over six against the spin triumvirate before edging a nearly unplayable delivery from Abdur Rehman to keeper Mohammad Salman at 77-4.

Earlier, the left-handed Taufeeq, who resumed the day on 97, cracked 13 fours and faced 314 balls overall while Misbah struck 10 fours and two sixes off 141 balls.

Their partnership punished West Indies and was only ended via the run out route, 13 minutes before lunch, when Taufeeq made a lethargic attempt to reach his ground in attempting a quick single, and failed to beat captain Darren Sammy’s direct hit.

Pakistan chased quick runs after lunch with with Umar Akmal hammering a typically quick-fire 30 from 25 balls. Leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo claimed 2-149.

Basseterre, St Kitts, CMC – West Indies were defeated by 196 runs by Pakistan in the Second Digicel Test on Tuesday, as the two-match Digicel Series ended 1-1 at Warner Park.
Resuming the fifth and final day on 130-5 in search of 427 for victory, the hosts lost their final five wickets for 100 to be bowled out for 230, 15 minutes before the lunch break.
Captain Darren Sammy counter-attacked with 41 but found no support from the lower order as left-arm spinner Abdur Rehman (4-65) and off-spinner Saeed Ajmal (3-79) were the best bowlers
West Indies were undone by the early loss of vice-captain Brendan Nash who fell in the day’s third over to a catch at slip off Ajmal, without adding to his overnight 30.
Sammy stroked six fours in a spirited 41 from 51 balls, adding 36 for the seventh wicket with Carlton Baugh (18) to hold up Pakistan’s victory charge. Left-hander Ravi Rampaul crashed two sixes and two fours in a bold 20 close to the end.
When Baugh was trapped lbw to Abdur Rehman, wickets continued to fall steadily as the Windies faced the inevitable.

2. Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard are not eligible to represent the West Indies in T20 format as they did not take part in the last edition of the Caribbean Twenty20. Although he has been allowed to return to low intensity cricket in Trinidad Adrian Barath is still undergoing rehabilitation and an assessment will be done during the Trinidad leg of the West Indies v India Series 2011. 4. Chris Gayle will not be considered for selection to the West Indies team before an intended meeting with himself, the Selection Committee, the WICB Management and the West Indies Team Management. The Selection Committee views this meeting as necessary as a result of Gayle’s comments in a widely publicized radio interview in Jamaica.
