It was so awesome to hear Patois in the full. Is the language normally more like English or more filled with it's own stuff?

OK Patois originated because of our colonial past...its a mixture of european, african etc..languages to form a unique language, but we were once a colony of England so our West Indies creole for the english speaking islands is basically broken english

I wanna learn Patois! Does the lesson necessarily have to be live? We should perhaps make avies and siggies to promote a specific day and time for a "live" lesson in Patois and advise people to have read up on the information you ladies have been kind enough to provide us with thus far. Something. I'd love to see this lesson take off.

Fred's CaribbeanGirl, do you know specifically what European and African languages Patois originated from? Would being proficient in any of these languages be useful in learning how to speak Patois?

Yes actually. Patois has its roots set in the english language,but has elements of spanish,french,potuguese,dutch and indian words in it. The africans brought over into the caribbean came from many different tribes from west africa so most african words came from that region.

And sorry no. Patois is mostly comprised of english 'mutated' words ..I'll be posting vital lessons soon. *Sorry I've been away so long.* The next set of lessons i put up should really help
