The Department of Magical Transportation

This thread is available for The Department of Magical Transportation staff in order to carry out and facilitate Apparition field tests that need to be examined outside the Ministry of Magic. It can also be used by other divisions within the department for special field trips and tasks.

Welcome to Apparition Training
Session - 1, 2, &3

You enter a large hall specially reserved for Hogwarts Student's Apparition Training. You notice the walls decorated with instructive banners as well as a few banners containing the most important three D's:

Priscilla Johanson and her assistant Shylo Marcez, your Apparition trainers, usher you inside to find your own spot to practice on 5 feet behind an old fashioned hoop. Start practicing using steps laid out for you, or wait for further instructions from your trainers!

Ray was excited to his apparation classes, he heared his trainer steps, first he needed to fix his mind firmly on the his destination, the hoop 5 feet in front of him, determint to occupy the hoop, he turned on the spot, and when he opened his eyes he was still standing in his place. Ray was sure, he won't make it from the first time but he had to continue practicing

"Very good, concentrate harder" Priscilla advised walking up behind the student, "make sure to ripple every particle in your body" twirling her finger to motion to attempt at it again.

Amelia entered the large hall reserved for apparition lessons. She knew that she was a bit a young, and wouldn't be able to take the test for a few years, but it wouldn't hurt to start practicing early, would it? Besides, transfiguration was one of her strong points...

She calmly walked up to one of the trainers and asked confidently, "Excuse me, but well, I know I'm a bit young... yet do you mind if I practice for a bit now? I'm not expecting to be perfect, but I figured I would get a head start with learning this mode of transportation, as it's a difficult one to master."

Ray did what the professor has told him to do, he concentrated harder, making sure to ripple every particle in your body, he turned on the spot and felt like he was being compressed in a little tube and he was moving, when he opened his eyes, he screamed he had done it he was now standing in the hoop.
Checking that every part of his body was still attached to him, yes he tought after he verifiyed that nothing was missing

Sophie skipped in the hall. She wouldn't be able to take the test till next year but had heard that Apparation was very difficult and thought a little bit of extra practice wouldn't hurt anyone. She read all the banners around the hall despite nearly all of them saying the same thing. She knew what she had to do so stood in front of a hoop and closed her eyes tight. She concentrated with all her might on the inside of the hoop, opened her eyes, stared at it for a bit before spinning her body very violently and falling on the ground. She was a little disapointed but wasn't expecting herself to do it on the first try.

Sophie stared at her hoop again and this time spun much more graceful - as though she was dancing. She found herself in the exact same spot. Sophie realising that she was getting no where looked at Professor Johanson for some help. "Excuse me, I seem to be having a lot of trouble. Could you please give me a hand?" She asked hopefully her head on the side. Sophie saw a boy she recognised from her own house apparate perfectly. "Wow!" She exclaimed grinning her loud clapping echoing around the almost empty hall.

Shylo nodded to Amelia and pointed to a ring. "You may start practising, just be careful." She heard a young Hufflepuff ask Priscilla for some help and walked over to her.

"Professor Johanson is busy with Ray at the moment. I'm Professor Marcez. What would you like help with?" She asked, smiling kindly.

Amelia smiled at the kind Professor in a thank you sort of way, and pranced over to the ring indicated. She sighed, and while she wasn't expecting to be able to apparate perfectly as she was just a Third Year, she felt this nervous knot in her stomach. She glanced around and noted that it was mostly older students in the room, but told herself that this was just some extra practice. She read the banner on the wall several times, until she was sure that she could say the words in her sleep. Once confident that she knew the words, she stared down at the hoop. Destination: inside the hoop. Determination: to occupy inside the destined space. Deliberation: to actual move into the space.

Amelia closed her eyes and visualized, with all her mind strength on every bone & muscle in her body, to move into the hoop. Before she realized what she was doing, her legs reacted quickly and she made one bounce into the hoop. She opened her eyes and looked where she was standing...huh? I did it? no wait, I'm not supposed to walk into the hoop... she thought as she chuckled to herself.

Qaz stood behind her hoop as instructed. She fixed her stare on the middle of the hoop. Over and over in her mind she was saying, ‘I am standing in the middle of the hoop. I am standing in the middle of the hoop.’ Nothing was happening.

Finally, after Amelia overcame the shock of her stupidity in 'bouncing' into the hoop, she stepped back outside and closed her eyes. She then opened them quickly and glanced around to see how the other students were doing; at a mere whim she decided it might be best to clear her mind before attempting this difficult task again. She plopped down on the hard floor and sat meditation style with her eyes closed, just freeing all thoughts and worries from her mind. All that she could think about was the task at hand: apparating into the hoop. After about 10 minutes of just sitting there, mellowing in her thoughts, she opened her eyes and stood back up.

Amelia glanced quickly at the sign with the three D's, as a refresher, and then focused on moving her body into the hoop. Within seconds, everything went black on her, and she felt lightheaded - but that didn't last for very long, as she had only a short distance to go.

Amelia glanced down at the ground to notice she was within the boundaries of the hoop, but hardly noticed her feet was missing. Actually her whole body seemed to be missing! Her head revolved in the spot to really examine if she truly apparated, when she let out a loud screech that echoed throughout the large room! The main portion of her body seemed to be still outside the hoop, just two feet from her head...

Qaz saw Amelia splinch, apparating only her head to inside the hoop. 'Now I'm really calm' she thought sarcastically. She tried very hard to concentrate on the center of the hoop, but still nothing happened. 'At least I still have my head', she thought. Deciding to re-group, she calmly shut her eyes and stood still, hopeing to calm her mind.

Amelia's head spun wildly around the room, looking for the instructor. She could have sworn her cheeks were bright red and warm, but seeing how she had no hands, she couldn't very well instinctively feel them. Finally, she caught the instructor's eye, but then realized she couldn't even wave the women down! Instead, she had to use as much vocals as she could muster, without a larynx: "Oi! Professor; I seem to have misplaced my body! Can you help me?" she haphazardly forced a smile at Professor Marcez.

Ali looked at the hoop. She knew she could do this. She cleared her mind of every thought and thought only about the hoop. She saw the hoop in her mind and breathed deeply. She made sure that she was calm and thought saw the hoop again. She turned on the spot, then opened her eyes. "Wow, i did it." She checked herself to make sure that all of her body was there, then her eyes opened wide. "I'm missing my arms. Um...could someone help me??"

"Well done Ray!" beamed Priscilla giving him a pat on the back as she twirled around to examine nearby students. They were doing rather well, the banners seemed to assist. Beaming inwardly at the thought as she hovered around the nearest Hufflepuff.

"Then close your eyes and concentrate very very hard. Make sure you touch every particle in your body with your mind as you concentrate at your destination and move into nothingness" turning on the spot, Priscilla appeared instantly inside the hoop and to her fright two students where screaming.

"Now you try that without splinching", skipping her way towards the nearest and most severe case of splinched candidate.

Once the girl was back together, Priscilla squeezed her shoulder and attempted a smile, "Don't let it hold you back, Splinching often happens during practices, you were not determined enough. Concentrate harder and your entire body would move as a whole, try it again while i tend the other" without another word she skipped towards Ali.

Taking hold of her arm, Priscilla murmured similar spells she used on Sophie. Shortly after Ali's arm was attached to her body, she smiled at the girl and motioned for her to move back behind her hoop for another go while she addressed the entire hall.

"Splinching, meaning parts of your body remaining behind occurs when you're not determined enough. Make sure you focus and concentrate to occupy visualized space. It's very important to keep your body intact when you arrive at your destination"

AJ cautiously entered the apparation practice area. She looked at the hoop she is supposed to focus on while she attempts to apparate to it, and was very tempted to simply run and jump into it... but decided not to. She looked up at the steps, 'Step1: Fix your mind firmly upon the desired destination.' she read, "check" she muttered to herself, 'Step2: Focus your determination to occupy the visualized space.' "check" 'Step3: Turn on the spot and feel your way into nothigness, moving with deliberation.' "check." She understood all the steps, and now to do them.

She decided to close her eyes while doing so, her mind thinking of the middle of the hoop, and as she did so she slowly felt herself becoming less aware of the ground underneath her. She turned quickly and felt her feet against hard marble once again, so she opened her eyes, emitting a small squeak as she did so. She moved her arms up to check that she was all there, yes, she still had arms, and legs, and everything was perfect. She had a big corny grin on just as it should be, except for one thing: AJ was still 5 feet away from the hoop. She hadn't moved an inch.

Just as she moved the tip of her foot to take a round around the students when an elder student caught her attention. Keeping a curious look on her as she practiced, but didn't move. "Very good. Your doing good" she said more in a sing song voice concealing excitement. "All you need to do is focus on your determination" flailing her arms around her.

Destination, Determination, Deliberation. Qaz opened her eyes, stared at the center of the hoop. ‘I will apparate into the hoop’ she thought without reservation. ‘I will apparate into the hoop’ She closed her eyes and felt a bit of a wobble inside. Slowly, she opened her eyes. The hoop was no longer in front of her, so she looked down, and there it was. Her heart was soaring. Just to make sure, she quickly checked behind her. Nothing left behind. No splinch. ‘I did it! 'I did it!'

The Ravenclaw next to AJ seem to have succeeded in his apparition try, "BRAVO!" Priscilla clapped her hands to encourage her as she moved closer to the girl but still kept close to AJ. "You can try it again, the initial period is always the most troublesome one. Once you figure it, it becomes part of you" motioning for her to try it again, "go on".

After she calmed down, Qaz stepped back from the hoop. This time she'd try a little farther, so she moved back about twice as far. Destination, Determination, Deliberation. Qaz stared at the center of the hoop. She did it once and she was confident she could do it again. She closed her eyes and felt a slight tremor. Once again, she opened her eyes, looked down and saw she was standing in the hoop again. 'That's 2!'

Before Amelia even realized she was being put back whole again, she felt a warm hand on her shoulder and knew that she was back to normal. She listened intently to what Priscilla told her about not to let it hold her back, and splinching often occurred during practices. But a small part of her just wanted to run out of there and cry into her bed. Withholding the tears, she nodded at the instructor, as she skipped off to help another student in need. Well, at least I was the only one who splinched themselves... she thought cheerfully.

Amelia knew deep inside that she could apparate, even at a young age, and she was determined to prove it. She took a deep breath and shook her hands out to loosen up the joints. Destination. A perfect image of the hoop was visualized, and Amelia knew she wanted to be in the middle of it. Determination. She was determined to get to her location; closing her eyes, she concentrated hard on the final 'D'. Deliberation. Allow her whole self to move to this new destination.

Amelia felt her whole body go limp, as the ground slipped beneath her feet. Within seconds though, she felt her knees attempt to buckle as she landed on the hard floor of the practice room. She opened her eyes and immediately checked behind her to make sure she still had all her body parts. A broad grin spread to her face, when she realized she had apparated successfully! But then looked down and realized she was still outside the hoop. She had only moved a few inches, but it was a definite start!! She would try again in a few moments... after reality caught up with her.

Feeling confident, Qaz thought she’d try something harder. She walked about 20 feet from her hoop and without looking back, she closed her eyes. ‘I will apparate into the hoop’ she thought. She felt a slight ripple. She was almost afraid to open her eyes. She peeked at the floor, saw the hoop and blurted ‘That’s three in a row!’

AJ's face went hot, she felt HIGHLY embarrassed at how happy she had been when she hadn't gone anywhere. She shook her head, shook it off, and took a few deep breaths to realize she had been holding her breath. It felt good to breath, she realized. She she hadn't moved, but then again, at least she didn't splinch herself, that looked extremely painful, and from what she'd heard about it, it WAS.

She stared at the hoop, closed her eyes once more, not even thinking about anything but the visual image of the center of the hoop and the words, "I can do this" were running through her head. As she imagined herself materializing out of thin air in the middle of the hoop, she took a deep breath and turned. Suddenly she felt like she was getting compressed for a moment that by the time she realized what she was feeling it was gone again. She felt the floor underneath her feet once more and opened her eyes, staring 5 feet away. The hoop was no longer there.

A smile started to form on her face once again as she checked to make she she was all there, she felt like she was, and there was nothing of her left in the spot where she had just been standing. AJ looked down to find that she was next to the circle, not completely in it, one foot was in the hoop, one was out. But it was a start, and she grinned like a goon before hopping back to try apparating again.

"Very good, your doing great Amelia, Focus harder - that should do it" giving her a comforting look, she's doing great seeing she's younger than the rest. Smiling some more she shifted her attention to Qaz who seemed to get a superb grasp on Apparition, "very good" skipping her way around towards other students, "you two will do wonderfully on the test!".

"Very good!" Priscilla pointed out as she reached AJ, "you're almost there, go ahead and try it again. Relax a bit more, you seemed tensed. If you don't worry about splinching you won't splinch. But if you think of it, unfortunately you splinch" frowning slightly at the thought, waving her wand Priscilla moved the hoop 5 feet further away from AJ. "There we go, you can attempt at it again".

Ali stepped outside of the hoop and closed her eyes. Focus, Ali, focus. She concentrated on the hoop. She closed her eyes and visualized the hoop. 'You can do this' She took a deep breath. She turned around and opened her eyes. She checked herself. All of her body parts were there. Ali grinned wideley. "I did it." Ali felt really pleased with herself
