In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.
During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris, and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together, they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes-fascinating, sometimes-exasperating boy fits into the life she’s chosen. But Tris also has a secret: one she’s kept hidden from everyone, because she’s been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly-perfect society, she also learns that her secret might be what helps her save those she loves . . . or it might be what destroys her.
May those beautiful yesterdays ease today's sorrow
Divergent is a one of the greatest books I ever read I enjoyed reading it very much that's why I reread it last month
First I like the general idea the factions and the ceremony. And I also like the characters Especially Four
SPOILER!!: don't look if you didn't read it yet!
But I was soooo surprised when Beatrice's brother Caleb chose Erudite but I like surprises!
And when I found out that Four was Tobias I totally freaked out
But when Will died..... that was the saddest thing ever! I wish she didn't kill him he was so cool And of course when Al killed himself that was sad too but not like Will
However, this is a beautiful book that i so recommend people to read and I'm so excited about the next book
I Loved this book. I'm a big fan of Dystopia novels and this didnt disappoint. Veronica Roth was a debut author with this book and she is simply incredible and i look forward to the next book in the series.

It's one of those books that I can't find a thing to complain about! and I'm a complainer It's great and can't wait for the second one.
And even if it was compared to Matched and other young adult fiction, in my opinion this book beats them all. It's so thoughtful and dynamic somehow. Not to mention the... deaths in there. D: It is what makes you feel their reality and emotions. I love it.

I can't remember why I picked up this book... but I'm glad I did! It was definitely one of my favorite books I've read this year. It had a lot of surprised (especially the ending!) and even though some jerk spoiled a lot for me before I read it I reeeeally liked it. I can't wait for the next one!

The next book in the series comes out in just a few days, the 1st of May. Can't wait! If you like HP (of course you do), The Hunger Games, The Mortal Instrument Series etc... I REALLY suggest you give this book a read. It's fantastic and you won't be disappointed.
It has a good premise and it was a good read. Just sort of tired of the typical romance thrown in there. I just wish authors of YA books would pick another plot point. But it was a good read.

I read Divergent last summer and I just re-read it over the last week in preparation for the May 1st release of Insurgent. I don't think it's fair to rank favorite books when considering the plethora of literature in the world, but if I tried to rank 'em anyway, Divergent would definitely be in my top three favorite books of all time. Mmmm. I've heard Insurgent doesn't disappoint!
I'm really looking forward to learning more about Amity. I'd choose it as a faction, without a doubt, and it almost seems too good to be true. :3 And as for the whole "romance" aspect of the book, I can see how that story line could be annoying to some people, but I'm just glad there isn't any kind of love triangle - I hope it stays that way.
SPOILER!!: Spoiler talk
Al's death is just so, so heartbreaking. I forgot Will got killed the second time I read it and I kind of went, "Oh. Right." I'm not excited for Tris and Christina to meet again. :/ I can't imagine that going over well. Her parents' deaths were the worst of all, though. Ugh. So brave.
While I'm at it, I'll just say that I like Tris/Four a lot. Mmm. Very good.
And... I don't know if it was just me, but did other people see Caleb's transfer coming? Maybe I'm just good at picking up on subtle hints from watching crime shows, but Tris and Caleb's exchanges at the beginning totally set off that signal that said 'oop something's going on here.' Same with Tris' mom being from Dauntless. The fact that she allowed her daughter's vanity (if you'll call it that) to look in the mirror at the beginning made me think she wasn't the typical Abnegation mother. These were very good twists, though. I appreciated the variety.

I haven't been able to get hold of the book, the publishers in Australia must have had a problem because there is no stock what so ever. BUMMER. Hope to have it soon [probably a week or more =( ], ordered it from book depository UK.
