About The Book |
"Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone fighting against you?
Twenty-four are forced to enter. Only the winner survives. In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. Each year, the districts are forced by the Capitol to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the Hunger Games, a brutal and terrifying fight to the death - televised for all of Panem to see.
Survival is second nature for sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who struggles to feed her mother and younger sister by secretly hunting and gathering beyond the fences of District 12. When Katniss steps in to take the place of her sister in the Hunger Games, she knows it may be her death sentence. If she is to survive, she must weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
WINNING WILL MAKE YOU FAMOUS. LOSING MEANS CERTAIN DEATH."
This was such an amazing book!! ... the sequel, Catching Fire, was released the other day, but as I'm in Australia we won't get it until October
I loved this book so much! It wasn't anything like I expected, though. I guess I didn't expect that it would be so good, even though my whole family liked it, lol. And I usually don't like reading books written in present tense, but I got over it when I read The Hunger Games.
And since my whole family loved the first one, we pre-ordered Catching Fire, and got it a few days ago! But my brother called it first, so I have to wait until he's done to read it I can't wait!

OMG OMG OMG I am SO glad this series has a thread! I read books 1 and 2 and was like holy cow these are awesome! I read Catching Fire in like a day and now i NEED to read the third one! I can't wait till it comes out! This series is great and i highly recomend it to ALL!
I checked it out of the library this weekend. And this is how it went.
Saturday morning: Checked out Hunger Games and Catching Fire, because I'm one of those get the whole series in one library trip people.
Saturday afternoon: DEVOURED half of Hunger Games. Then, had to stop for some mandatory gardening.
7:00PM - 12:30AM - I read that book as though I'm reading for dear life. There is no turning back. I am in love.
I would have read it in a day, but I started too late. The Hunger Games was delicious. It was absorbing. The plot, while reminiscent of Battle Royale in the whole fight to the death aspect, was original. Despite the fact that it was a horrible regime, Panem fascinated me. Katniss was a solid character, as were the supporting roles. Even the kids that fought in the arena won me over. I laughed. I cried. The book has a very fast pace, with just enough detail.
Don't hesitate to read it. Just don't.
I'm halfway through Catching Fire right now. The pace is a bit slower (but still fast and exciting); we are getting to get into the characters' faces and see what's really going on in their heads, especially in the aftermath of the games. But there's definitely some elements brewing that will make the final book unforgettable.
I want that third book out.
Edit: The only thing I didn't like. The name Peeta. I don't know why, but I just don't like that name.

I don't mind the name Peeta... I mean, it's just a different way of spelling Peter, I don't think it is prounounced any differently.
So I got Catching fire a few weeks ago! and OMG I seriously need the next book!! I can't believe we have to wait until next year for it! i'ts torture!! haha
Just finished the Hunger Games and I have to say, this is the best new book I have read in a long time. It draws you in completely and you just have to keep reading. It's aimed at teens, but it is still very well written. The characters aren't typical, boring or predictable. And I like the complexities. Just... awesome. Haha. A cool (and horrific) new spin on things. I bought Catching Fire today, going to start it in a little bit.
The hunger games is a book that you can't put down after you start reading. Every single chapter ends in a cliffhanger. I loved Rue, that was so sad. I can't wait for the next one to come out.
omg i lvoed the hugner games=D dangit i need that second book. my mother is refusing too take me too mbarnes and nobles.gah it was so good. i was pro gale i nthe begginging, but i'm so pro peeta now <3333

My friend in my science class was raving about this book to me and she explain a little bit of it; she's still reading it. I might ask her if I can borrow it, especially before I have to do my summer homework for AP English Lit.
SQUEEEEEE!! I just finished catching fire today and I NEED the third one. However I'm not entirely sure how long it's going to take me to get it seeing as it's in such high demand where I live
SPOILER!!: *ahem* SPOILER!!!
Okay Katniss needs to marry Gale. End of story... No not really, that would be a terribled way to end it Gale has got to be one of my favorites though.

OMG! The 3rd one is BRILLIANT! I got it Wednesday and I'm almost done with it. But I do have somethings I have to explode about first. Soooo...
SPOILER!!: DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS IN THE 3RD BOOK!
Firstly: Let me just say I FREAKED out when they rescued Peeta and his brain was all screwed up. It was pretty terrible when he tried to strangle Katniss and made me want to strangle him.
Secondly: There was just so much fighting and stuff that I sort of missed the romantic part of it all. I really didn't like how much Gale wooed her and then at the end she picked Peeta. It didn't make much sense because of how fast the ending was pushed but it was great all the same!
I am going to be reading the first book in the series for a College Children's Literature Class-I bought the book for myself but I am afraid to start to read it because it might be too good
