I recently came across this brilliant series of books called the Tomorrow series. It starts of with Tomorrow, When the War Began and the series has 7 books in it, and a sequel series. The blurb of the first book is-

Anyone else fans of this amazing series? And did anyone else think the movie left something to desire?

I did read the first two books and they were good but I am such a difficult bookworm and it's really hard to keep me hooked to a series of seven books as long as they're just good which means I gave up on the third book right in its middle.
See? Harry Potter series is a miracle to me

Oh GOSH I love TWTWB books! So many of my friends recognised the books from watching the trailer of the movie, but I had never watched them
My boyfriend loves them, and he took me to see the movie and it was so amazing, so I read all the books and the Ellie Chronicles When I finished them all it was hard for me to find another series because it took me about 3 months to get through them all. I'm just hanging out on news from the 2nd movie!

I have signed copies of all the books as I went to a seminar hosted by John Marsden for the release of the seventh book (before the Ellie Chronicles. I'm a long time fan XD) and he signed them all for me.

I couldn't put them down, and I love the characterisations. I love all the characters so much.

I live in New Zealand so its maybe a bit more close to home to me than for some readers (we even get mentions and get to be heroes too woohoo for being the only country to help Australia in their fictional time of need!)

As for the movie, I was mostly really happy about it but there were little things that annoyed me that really wouldn't have been a big deal to include.

For example when Ellie and Robyn are in the big digger thingy, in the book they wear helmets which turns out to be a good thing as they bang their heads on the roof of the cabin. Its just a cute little detail and its even in the storyboards for the movie so I can only assume it was part of the original art direction.

Also, they should have found out via fax machine (which still exist now so its not like its some old ancient form of communication) , from Corrie's dad like in the book. Even an updated VERSION of that (since they randomly pull out cellphones and laptops which aren't mentioned in the books at all) where a message got through would have been a nice nod to the fax thing.

Little details like that are the things that bothered me in the movie. So all in all it could have been a lot worse.

But back to the books, I enjoy that there is a LOT of action but also plenty of time where nothing happens and waiting is as much the focus. You really get a look in at the different personalities of these teenagers as they try to justify their actions and figure out how to cope, and as they are changed as people irrevocably.

Also, I think the blurb on the back of mine is different. I have two copies, the original cover and one of the first redesigns but they're both what was released in NZ and Australia so maybe its different.

I've only read the first two or three books, which I really enjoyed but then I had to focus on other novels for uni. I read them recently and feel they'll be fabulous teaching resources when I'm teaching high school English.

The movie, I loved! It made me feel super patriotic (I'm Australian) and ready to steal a petrol truck!!

I'm one of the newbs to the series, I found it around a year ago at the shops, but it wasn't until Christmas that I bought it. Then I fell in love I loved the personalities of the characters, and how they weren't all unflawed. The people acted like I would imagine people would in that situation, and it felt very realistic.

The action in it was the right amount, it wasn't non-stop that you would get confused or bored, but it was the right amount. It was just amazingly written and done

Also being an Aussie, I could picture it all really well like the bush and the accents and such. It felt like it really was in Australia, while other books I've read that were set in Australia didn't feel Aussie.

That sounds like a really Cool series of books.

I live allt eh way here in Sweden and I came across it over my friends, cousins, cousin who is Aussie and she had it so I read the first book around when Jan' this year and watched the movie and there both quite different. But good

It sounds great... I'll read it for sure!

I'm from Australia too and reading the books made me want to move to the country. I really loved the outback feel of the movies.

As to the characters I really found I could picture them all perfectly. They were real characters with real personalities.
