OK I love Harry Potter far more than Lord or the rings...here's my resoning behind it *clearing throat*

The Harry Potter books are far easier to get into than the Lord of the Rings books. I'm nto saying Lord of the Rings are bad books...they are just deep...and confusing...hard for me to get into some times....but the movies didn't exactly do the books justice....
On the other Hand Lord of the Rings is as I've said...a lot deeper...there is more to the plot than a LOT of books...(not saying Harry Potter Isn't because I know all too well that there is more to the plot) but the movies did the books more justice than there was with Harry Potter. The LotR movies helped you understand the books unlike the Harry Potter ones.... *sigh* ok now I have to go to work!!! ^^

oviously the HP books are easier to read cause they're written for children and LOTR is written for adults but they're still very good books, i had trouble getting into FOTR, it was SO boring at the beginning! but the end was good

I didn't find that at all.

Eh... what? The Lord of the Rings books descended into fanfiction in parts of Return of the King - whole chapters were left out, armies were rerouted to the detriment and general confusion of the plot
The whole Saruman question, the motives of the Dead, the Corsairs - all were left unresolved in the Theatrical Edition. I don't know how an initiate was meant to know what happened, I had to keep trying to explain it to my friends, who haven't read it.
What happened to the Scouring of the Shire? Why did so little time pass between Bilbo's departure and Frodo's? Where did Glorfindel and the Grey Company go? What exactly was the purpose of dragging Aragorn's personal life into the equation? All right, human interest and all that, but the whole thing with Elrond turning up at Dunharrow was stupid - I thought Aragorn had Narsil reforged - ****, what was it called - meant Flame of the West (sorry, I haven't seen RotK since it came out in the cinema although I plan on watching the three EEs back to back tomorrow.)

Much as I love HP, it lacks the depth, the scale, the poetry, the imagery, the ... escapism and fullness of setting that Tolkien's work offers. Tolkien was the master, he thought of everything when it came to fantasy.
I just don't see how the comparison can be made.

Read and seen both hp and lotr....i admit i hating hp when lotr came out in cinemas because of the inbred fight between them but in the end (now) Harry Potter is mor einteresting. After al its easier on the eyes much more interesting and humorous and there are still books to come!

I love both LOTR + Hp. Lotr is ingenious. The films are definately better then the Hp films by far. I just cant really compare them. I really enjoyed Hp books, but the LOTR books were amazing. ahhh

I like the LOTR movie better than the HP movies. But I like the hp books more than the Lotr books. The LOtr books are a little confusing

Although I prefer reading the HP books, I'm still quite sure the LotR books are better. They are just harder to read and take some definite commitment if you really want to understand them.

I definetly say Harry Potter. Then again, I read LOTR when I was 9 years old and thought most of the last two books were horrificly boring.

They are hard to compare... but I say the storyline and plot of LotR is better. HP was easier to read, but that's probably because it was made for children and it has a pretty good storyline... but I still like LotR better. I can't really write any long details right now because I don't have much time.... but yeah, I voted just to let you know

I think LOTR since its got so much depth. Although each new book of hp adds more and more. But i still like LOTR more except for the stupid songs that i can't stand so i just skip them. I think LOTR just has more subtext and things that are all on the subconsience level that hp lacks
