Hogwarts RPG Name: Vaelle Stormwind First Year | The His Dark Materials Trilogy - Phillip Pullman I started reading Northern Lights (aka The Golden Compass), the first book in this trilogy when I saw they were making it into a movie. I remember I got into Lord of the Rings and Christopher Paolini's Inheritance Trilogy the same way.
I was impressed by Phillip Pullman's ability to keep me interested and you could never tell quite what was going to happen next.
I'm about a hundred pages into reading the Amber Spyglass, the third of the trilogy, and I am still thoroughly enjoying the worlds Phillip Pullman has created.
Has anyone else read this series - if so, which book of the three is your favourite and why? Would you recommend this series to other people? |

Chad Luthien Stryker Minister's Office | So far I've only read book number 2 and I rather like it! I mean, I was a little lost cause I haven't read book 1, but the way the world is described, I was still able to follow along
Book 2 being The Subtle Knife. It's a really good book. I think I finished it in the time it took to get from Toronto to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Which is like a day and half long car ride. XD Great book. =)
Must read the others! XD |

Roxie B. Mathias Magical Creatures | I only read the Golden Compass sometime....last year or the year before. I remember staying up past midnight to read to certain length. However, the library doesn't have The Subtle Knife and I refuse to read the third before the second. So, now I'll just have to wait until I can earn enough money (I always seem to forget the book and waste it on something else) and actually buy the second one.
Anyway, wicked good book. Um...yeah...READ IT! |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Luke Winters Sixth Year | I've wanted to read those books. My mom won't let me though because the author is aethiest and he's trying to convert other readers into aethiest as well. So I've ignored them. Although the movie looks awesome! |

There's nothing wrong with atheism or being an atheist anyway, but that's just my opinion. |

So I've ignored them. Although the movie looks awesome! | My mom didn't want me to read His Dark Materials either, becaue it was written by an aethiest and that it was against my religion. I managed to convince her to let me read the books by telling her that it is just fiction and that if she could live with me reading Harry Potter, that there was no problem with me reading Pullman's books. It's just fiction, even though there are some aethiesm beliefs in it.
The books are really good. I really prefer the first one over all three of them. I still haven't seen the movie and I wish I will be able to soon. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Zöe Amelia Parry First | I absolutely LOVE the trilogy. Once you start reading them you just can't stop, like many others, I think that Northern Lights is the best. With the Gobblers, Mrs Coulter, Lord Asriel, Iorek and the Daemons I just love it! I love them because the books are so unpredictable and keep you gripped all the way though..It's just a shame that they'res only 3 books. |

EXCELLENT. I loved the boooks a lot! My favourite one is The Golden Compass. Wasn't too happy with The Amber Spyglass though...I didn't like the ending. But still, excellent books and you must read them! |

Egypt Greenwood Magical Maintenance | Well my mom was upset that I read the books, but im 27 so i just ignored her. I liked the books although after reading through them I can understand her reservations, and me and my son had a long talk before i let him read thru it.
My favorite in the series has to be the Golden Compass thou, the other books were just kinda weird to me.
The movie was awesome thou. Nicole Kidmen is wonderful in that book. |

Violet Slivermoon Magical Creatures | Yeah! I love Pullman's work! Out of the three, The Subtle Knife is probably my fav.
^ I want a dæmon too! I took a quiz on it and it said mine would be a snow leopard. But I was thinking more like an ermine actually. |

Jacob Webster International Cooperation | I absolutely love this trilogy by Phillip Pullman. Which is actually kind of strange, because when I first read The Golden Compass years ago, I hated it so much that I stopped reading it. Then I saw it at the library and decided to try to read it again, and I ended up loving it. A similar thing happened to my mom when she tried to read it, but she gave up and never gave it another chance.
As for my favorite book of the trilogy, I'd have to say The Subtle Knife. I tend to think about the series as one big book, so I can never really remember what events happened in which book, so its difficult to say which is my favorite. However, I know Will came in that one, and after Will shows up its great. (That was my main problem with the first book after I read all three - no Will.) As for The Amber Spyglass it makes me cry every time I read it.
I would definitely recommend the trilogy. But, if someone has trouble reading it like I did at first, maybe they should read one of his other books, which aren't fantasy, before trying the His Dark Materials trilogy. |

| I am a 38 year old mom and will encourage my slightly too young daughters to read them when they will understand them. I abhor ignorant comments about the books and the movie when these people have not read them and are commenting on something they know NOTHING about.....I would not dream of attempting to write about a book if I had not read it....Why? Because I would sound like a close-minded idiot...
OOOOH yes,,,, and my daemon would be cat!

| Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy is absolutely fantastic. Some of the best books that I have ever come across. I love the whole idea of the books and that the ending was just perfect (if not happy).
I couldn't possibly choose a favorite of the three. I have to say that I got sucked in by the first book, so I can't deny that it was obviously very good. But the trilogy together is just amazing.
I would definitely recommend these books to others and have done so several times. |
