Voldemort being defeated and the young generation of Witches and Wizards graduating with their lives still in tact. Harry and the trio living to a rip old age and having children of their own. Basically just a good-wizard-gone-bad-free world is what I think he saw.

I think he saw all those he cared about safe and whole and Voldemort and his followers defeated. I believe Dumbledore's biggest fear was that Voldemort or his death eaters would harm the students at the school and that he would not be able to protect them. We may have seen that fear when Dumbledore drank that potion to get the horcrux!

I think he truly did see a pair of socks. I feel like the socks symbolize that people give him all these special and expensive gifts, but no one is there to take care of his personal needs. He's so powerful, that he's almost viewed as god-like, the last thing you would think Dumbledore would need to worry about it socks.

Well...the Mirror shows the deepest and most desperate desires of our hearts...I am not sure that a world free of Voldemort would be the deepest and most despate desire of his heart. It could be seeing some one he loves happy....doesn't have to be Harry...could be anyone...We know nothing about his past....so let's explore the possibilities.

Maybe he sees himself with a family. He doesn’t seem to have a wife or children of his own. Maybe he did at one time and has outlived them or he lost his only true love before they were able to get together.

well maybe he loved hogwarts a lot as he did all he could to protect it from harm and preventing it from shutting down.or maybe as ^ said he might see himself with a family which he never had!!!!!there is always the possibility of socks though

If he didn't see a world without Voldemort, I believe he saw himself exactly as he was...as he explained it to Harry. I think he was that self-confident!

I think that since the mirror tells out hearts desire, It showed dumbledore the location of all of voldemorts horcruxes, but since harry was too young to understand, he lied and told harry he saw socks.

I think he may have seen Harry, not necassarily living to a ripe old age, but living a normal life like everyone else. That was always what Harry wanted, and I believe that's what Dumbledore wanted. | |

I think Harry was truthfull when he told Harry all he saw was socks. Dumbledore is truly a content and happy person; he loves every aspect of his life.
