| Guest | Richard's intentions for SnitchSeeker, whom if he never thought of creating a Harry Potter site, most of us wouldn't know each other existed, and we'd have nothing to do on the Internet and our lives would be incredibly boring. Quote: I first thought of making a Harry Potter site when I watched the first movie. I hadn't read any of the books yet, but I knew how popular the franchise was, and was curious to know why.
I'm really a HUGE Star Wars fan, and a big Lord Of The Rings fan. I chose Harry Potter because I saw that Lord Of The Rings had TORn, and Star Wars had Jedi Net and TFn, so I knew there wasn't much chance of a fan-site getting any attention in those areas.
The only site that I thought gave Harry Potter justice was TLC, but their layout left much to be desired! MuggleNet, DarkMark and TheSnitch were pretty good, but I felt I could offer something that they didn't at that time.
My sister's 12-year-old daughter (at the time) was really into Harry Potter, so I thought I could count on her to get it up and running once I designed it and got it online. However, she ended up having far too many other interests to be able to commit her time to my site, so I was on my own to find somebody to help.
My aim was to bring the Harry Potter fans together in a community where the fans basically run the site themselves. Where you could download the e-books, download MP3's of the audio books, download fonts, wallpaper, etc. And where fans could chat and comment about news articles and rumors. No site I had seen had a complete gallery where you could rate and comment on images as well as add your own.
At one point, we had the first four books available for download in PDF format. We had entire scenes (such as the quidditch match, the Mirror of Erised, the Devil's Snare, and others) from the Sorcerer's/ Philosopher's Stone movie to download in MPEG format. And we had clips from the audio books with Jim Dale. Sadly, we ended up having to remove all these things because of copyright issues. In fact, we were kicked off our first server because of that.
Since then, the site has evolved into more of a family community with contests, roll-playing, fan-fiction, and a gallery. Where we'll go in the future nobody really knows, but you can bet that we will only get bigger and more popular as we go.
One thing is for certain: Our aim will always be to give Harry Potter fans a place they can call home.
