I know the last one has been kind of neglected, I'm really sorry, there wasn't really anybody in charge of that activity.

So I'll try to kick it off again !! And please, if anybody want to help, PM me anytime !! I wont be able to do this often so it would be really really helpful if somebody can be in charge of the learning activity.

This is not a professional learning center or whatsoever, we only do this for fun, don't expect to be able to speak fluent Indonesian just by learning things here

And of course, no SPAMMING !!

Lesson 1 : Few simple vocabs

Ok, we'll start off with just a few simple words...
One thing you need to know in indonesian, you dont really have or need articles (like "the", "a", etc. in english), singular or plural forms, and feminine or masculine forms.

you : kamu
you (polite form) : anda
him, her : dia
them : mereka
us : kita

a dream : mimpi
a flower : bunga
a tree : pohon
grass : rumput
sand : pasir
water : air
air : angin, hawa, udara
fire : api
wood : kayu
meat : daging

a dog : anjing
a cat : kucing
a mouse : tikus

Lesson 2 : Numbers

one : satu
two : dua
three : tiga
four : empat
five : lima
six : enam
seven : tujuh
eight : delapan
nine : sembilan
ten : sepuluh

eleven : sebelas
twelve : dua belas
thirteen : tiga belas
fourteen : empat belas
fifteen : lima belas
sixteen : enam belas
seventeen : tujuh belas
eighteen : delapan belas
nineteen : sembilan belas

Ok from this point on, numbers are quite easy, once you know 1 through 9, it is easy to learn the bigger numbers. All you need to know is the beggining . Don't worry, I'll give an example First, you'll have to learn these :

twenty : dua puluh
thirty : tiga puluh
fourty : empat puluh
fifty : lima puluh
sixty : enam puluh
seventy : tujuh puluh
eighty : delapan puluh
ninety : sembilan puluh

Then, if you want to say twenty nine for example, well just add nine after the twenty : dua puluh sembilan.
It's just like in english, simple !!

These are just some terms and phrases you might encounter when meeting someone.

Lesson #6: Common Adjectives

There are probably a million-bajillion different adjectives out there, so I'm just going to post some of the most common ones.

Hot: panas [pahn-ahs]
Cold: dingin [ding-in]
Rough: kasar [kahs-ar]
Beautiful: cantik [chahn-tick]
Ugly: jelek [juh-leck]
Long: panjang [pahn-jahng]
Short: pendek [pen-deck]
Wet: basah [bah-sah]
Dry: kering [kuh-ring]
Loud: keras [kuh-rahs]
Quiet: sunyi [soon-yee]
Dirty: kotor [koh-tohr]
Clean: bersih [buhr-see]

Lesson #7: Colors

To keep this simple, I'll stick to the basics and the colors of the rainbow.

Red: merah [mehr-ah]
Orange: oranye [or-ahn-yeh]
Yellow: kuning [koo-ning]
Green: hijau [hee-jahu]
Blue: biru [bee-roo]
Violet: ungu [oong-oo]
Pink: merah jambu [mehr-ah jahm-boo]
Black: hitam [hee-tahm]
Brown: cokelat [cho-keh-laht]

Lesson #8: Farewells

Phrases and other things to say when parting!

Good question. It all depends on what you're answering.

Lesson #9: Answering in the Affirmative/Negative

• A simple "yes" in Indonesian is ya [yah] or ia [ee-yah].
• If someone asks if something is correct, you could answer with either a simple "ia," or you can say betul [beh-tool] or benar [buh-nar]
• If someone asks if something is right or on track, you could answer tepat [tuh-paht] or cocok [cho-chok]

• A simple "no" in Indonesian is tidak [tee-dahk]
• If someone asks if something is correct, you could answer with either a simple "tidak," or you could say bukan [boo-kahn]
• Another way to say "no" is nngak [eng-gahk]

There are a lot of ways to express "yes" and "no." Basically, you could just stick with the simple versions of "yes" and "no," but oftentimes, they're all interchanged. Hope that helped

Lesson #10: Likes/Dislikes

There are multiple ways of expressing likes and dislikes in the Indonesian language. Here are a few and their loose translations.

• Suka [soo-kah] ~ to like
• Cinta [chin-tah] ~ to love
• Doyan [doy-ahn] ~ to be fond of
• Tidak suka [tee-dah soo-kah] ~ to dislike
• Benci [ben-chee] ~ to hate

Great! Learning different languages is a wonderful aspiration. I myself would also like to learn several new languages.

Good questions. There are countless different regional dialects in the Indonesian language, such as Javanese and Balinese, because it is made up of thousands of islands, and people are inevitably separated. If I'm not mistaken, there are over 500 living languages in the country. However, the official language is Bahasa Indonesia.

about the days of the week. Senen, Rebo, and Kemis are the informal one or more like Betawi accent. The formal one are : Senin ~ Monday, Rabu ~ Wednesday and Kamis ~ Thursday. Hope that would help
