Halloween party at the Ministry
***where we left off****
It was Halloween morning and the Minister of Magic arrived bright and early to start the party preparations. The Minister had had a long and exhaustive night, but today was proving to be even worse as he sipped his coffee. "Not again" he mumbled as he picked himself up off the floor and clean up the mess. Sighing rather loudly he missed the strange noise that rang out over the neighborhood. Clumsiness was just a lame excuse as to why the Minister missed the famous sound . . . again. Grumbling to himself, the Minster stretched and looked around humming. He flipped to his planner to look up the first task on his extensive to-do list: Decorations.
"Decorations. Yes, we should have decorations" he said as he began jotting down ideas.
"And beverages - not the kind we had last year." he mused shaking his head remembering.
Swiveling around in his high-back chair, the Minister started to make a list of beverages to order from the Leaky Cauldron, who would be catering this event. "And a cake! What kind of Halloween party would it be without a double dark chocolate fudge cake" he grabbed his wand and with a flick of his wrist wrote "cake" in the air. Smiling to himself, the Minister twirled his moustache and sat back down frowning.
Suddenly the Minister jumped from his chair and shouted "I forgot to send the invitations!"
Rushing over to his door, he pulled it open and looked wide-eyed at his assistant, "you!" he cried out pointing at her.
The assistant, looking wide-eyed at the Minister in surprised, sunk slightly back in her chair and said, "Ye - yes, Sir?"
"My office, now" he bellowed in a jolly voice. "I have a very important job for you."
The assistant gulped but nodded and replied, "Right away Sir!" jumping up she hurried towards the office but tripped. As the assistant fell forward, the Minister leaped forward to catch her gracefully in his arms, preventing what could have been a huge tragedy. "Well, I didn't know you were that excited to come to my office" he said with a giant chuckle as he stood his assistant upright.
The assistant grew quite flustered as she brushed her robes off and smiled politely, "Oh my! I am terribly sorry, Minister!"
"No worries, young lady" he said in a fatherly tone. "We have a lot of work to do for the party and invitations will be your number one priority."
She nodded, taking out a small book and writing that down, "Anything else Minister?" She asked smiling up at him.
"That will be all for now" he said as he turned his attention toward finding the perfect location for the party. Rubbing his chin in thought, the Minister evaluated the possibility of each floor. Ah yes, a party situated in the department of mysteries would certainly be intriguing...
There was a sudden knock on the door, causing the Minister to drop his ink filled quill on his trousers. Biting back a retort to something he couldn't have stopped he barked, "Yes?" as he tapped his wand, the stain disappearing.
"It's Jay B Decor on the phone for you sir, can you take a message?" the secretary called.
"Yes, yes go ahead." He replied distracted by a dot on the floor. He had never noticed the dot and leaned over to further inspect it. The dot was actually quite small - no larger than the size of a galleon - the color of royal purple. He blinked, running a hand through his hair, quite perplexed. That dot just didn't seem to be getting any smaller. Glaring at it finally, he took out his wand and poked it. "come on..." he muttered.
A determined knock at the door momentarily took the Ministers attention away from the dot. Sighing once more to himself, he got his composure and barked, "Now what?" The secretary poked her head in scaredly "Umm, Sir, your mother is here" she whimpered.
"My Mother? What in the world would bring her all the way over here? Send her in" he said rubbing his newly aching head. The secretary nodded and turned to the Ministers mother "You can go in now madam" she smiled as she opened the door for her. His mother was a royal woman with no time to dilly dallying; she had spent most of her time getting her eldest son ready for high life, and what happens, he becomes the Minister. She walked in, indicating the secretary could leave with a flick of her wrist "John" she started in a posh voice. "Yes, mother?" he grumbled knowing that visits from his mother always meant a guilt trip and extra work for him. "Your father is dead." she said simply "Finally" she added "YOU are organizing the funeral and I am not going to be there" she finished with a triumphant, yet sadistic smile. The Minister blinked, a frown appearing on his face. "As if I don't have anything more to do." he grumbled before smiling and nodding. "Will that be all?" he asked as he furiously scribbled on his note pad "Or do you need a blood transfusion aswell" he muttered under his breath. "I heard that, young man." His mother shook her boney finger at him. |
