Assalamu aleikum. (I hope I spelled that right) I'm Turkish, but I understand a bit of your language. And hopefully, I'll someday learn reading&writing.

I have a question that might go to more Islamic members: is the language and writing of Qur'an different from your daily language?

O Alaikum el salam! (Haha actually when writing it in english it's just important to pronounce is right. xD But you did do that, so HAY!) Welcome to our forum!

Well, we write in the Qur'an's language, which is Arabic. The language is Arabic and we are taught to speak it and to understand its meanings, although we don't speak it amongst ourselves. Each country has a different dialoge. When it comes to broadcasting news, though, they speak the language known as "Fus-ha", which is like... "old arabic" and that's what's in the Qur'an. It's a bit difficult to explain, so I hope you understood that.

Yes, I understand I asked this to my grandpa who can read Qur'an, and he told me that the daily language was very different. I tried to read Turkish, but even the translation was old Turkish.

And another question: In countries that are ruled by sheriat (not sure about the word in English, I mean: too strict religious rules), what do people do from other religions? (Or are there even people from other religions?) Do they, especially women, dress like Muslims?

Hello there! I'm Yaz, and I'd be glad to answer your question

See, most Arab(muslim) countries are ruled by Sheria', but they're not too strict with non-muslims (not even with muslims, I might add). In all arab countries, non-muslims are treated fairly well and they can go on about their different religions freely. Arabs are not racists at all, and they never judge anyone by their different religion. In most Arab countries, women are not required to dress like muslims, they can dress freely.

However, in some arab countries (one arab country actually), non-muslim women are required to cover up. I have a non-muslim friend there, and she tells me that she doesn't mind it at all, from respect to that countries' regulations.

I hope that answered your question

Edit: Another thing I might add is that there are non-muslim Arabs, so Arab countries can't force them to do anything. And in the first place, Islam respects all other religions and beliefs and Sheria' is from Islam principles.

*reads her post again nervously* I didn't mean Arabs were racist! But, like, I thought Arabs were quite serious when it is religion. And... well, whatever. Iran isn't Arab, so I won't ask it here.

I asked this, because Qur'an also says "don't kill", and death penalty is a punishment in sheria'. But, if my question came out wrongly, I apologise.

Hii Deniz

Actually the Qura'an says "ولا تقتلوا النفس التي حرّم الله الاّ بالحق" which means" Do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden except when right " like to defend your self or your land ...

And death penalty is a punishment for killing someone in purpose only .

Oh no hun, not at all! I'm sorry if I sounded kinda harsh, but I was just making things clear! Hehe, I get a bit too formal sometimes And true, we Arabs are actually quite serious when it comes to religion, but not in that sense, as I explained earlier.
