The Dance Area

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/...ps343d7299.jpg

Off to the side of the dining and seating area, a space has been set up for dancing. Whether you are up for simple ballroom dancing with your date, or you want to dance the newest craziest wizarding dance, this is the place for you. At each corner of the dance floor, hover lights which bathe the dance floor in alternating lights, creating a fun and fancy ambiance. So grab your date or a friend, move over to the dance floor, and have a good old boogie. Just make sure you don’t miss the big events going on over at the stage whilst you dance the night away.

For anyone!

Well, this is curious. No one on the dance floor. These people just had no sense of fun. Guess somebody has to start though. And the perfect song for dancing was playing. Okay, maybe not the perfect song, but at least it wasn't that silly classical stuff that forces people into dancing with a partner. So, Roxanne did start dancing by herself, right in the middle of the floor.

For quite a few minutes since he'd entered the dining area, Konrad kept staring at a woman who was dancing by herself in the middle of the dance floor. However, it didn't take him long to realize who it was and, for some reason, he found himself walking towards her.

Hoping she wouldn't notice, since he came from behind her, he took her hand into his and gently spun her around, chuckling to himself. What in the world made him do that, he did not know. At least he knew he wouldn't make a complete fool of himself because, for a man his height and size, he was quite a graceful dancer. "Miss Carter." A small smirk was tugging at the corners of his mouth. "Long time, no see."

Suddenly a booming voice came from the Grand Stage.

"Ladies and Gentlemen. Welcome to the Board of Governor's Candidate Debate. If the candidates could make their way on the stage please?"

The song had transitioned to a slow one and Roxanne was about to stop dancing and go back to her table, when someone suddenly spun her around. She was about to reach for her wand to hex whoever it was, but then she saw who it was. "Indeed, it has been a long time," she replied with a smile. "How have you been?" She still felt guilty over the way she had left things between them and wanted to make sure he was okay.

But then the booming voice of the Senior Undersecretary cut through the music, calling the final warning for the debate. "Ugh, already?" She was quite enjoying herself, thank you. Had even forgotten her irritation over the debate being held during a Ministry event. "Guess that means it's time to go...."

Well, that went better than he expected. In all honesty, Konrad was ready for any sort of reaction, but he was glad that they were still on good terms.

... right?

He shrugged in response to her question. "I've been fine. Certainly not as busy as you have been," he said, smirking. The Board of Governors? He never would have guessed that she was interested in that kind of stuff. But, almost as if on queue, a familiar voice asked them all to head over to the stage. "Good luck up there," he smiled encouragingly at her. Should he mention that he was on the Board of Electors? Perhaps she already knew that? "Shall we?" Well, it would have been nice to catch up a little, but they were both needed over there, at the stage.

-clone?-

Glass of elf wine in hand to quench his thirst after the long debate, Erik made his way near the dance floor. He wasn't on it, exactly, but he was near it. There he waited, taking swigs of the wine until his glass was quite empty.

Hmm. Elf wine just wasn't comparable to champagne.

attack of the clones? heh heh

After the long debate, Ivy was ready get on her feet again. She couldn't sit too long, or she got fidgety and irritated. After quickly downing a glass of wine (she was thirsty, or something), Ivy spotted Erik by the dance floor. He reminded her of a pathetic woman all alone at a work part, waiting for someone to ask her to dance.

Snort.

"Waiting for someone to sweep you off your feet?" Ivy asked as she walked up behind him. There were probably dozens of women here that would love a dance with him. Totally not her though, nope.

"Not exactly," Erik answered, turning his head at the sound of Ivy's voice. He set his empty glass off to the side. "I vas vondering..." did he have to keep up this ridiculous accent? no, "if you vould like to dance?"

Straight to the point he was.

Well, she should have seen this coming. Or maybe she did and that's why she came over... Ivy watched him for a moment. She really hated that accent, but it was necessary. "Hmm... No."

But then she smirked and her eye twinkled and she held up her hand for him to take. A dance wouldn't hurt.

Erik took her hand and swept her on to the dance floor, perhaps with a smidgen more force than necessary. "You vouldn't like to, you'd love to," he half-mocked, a light smirk playing at his lips. Did she still despise him so? Heh.

His left hand went to her waist as he started leading them around, dancing close to her for a few steps before he spoke again. "So. Ivy. How have you been?"

There was no one nearby to overhear him sans accent if he pulled her close enough.

Yes, Ivy agreed to dance with him, but he could for once lay off with the greedy pulling. Sheesh. She was coming, calm down. She narrowed his eyes at him and wrapped her arm around his shoulder. "Don't mock me, Vinteren. I have strong knees." Think about THAT for a minute.

Ivy smirked a little bit when he spoke again. Much better. She continued to follow his lead on the dance floor. "Oh, I've been just fine," she replied, and it might have even been convincing. "And yourself?" she asked in return.

Erik's eyes were twinkling at her little threat. "Aw, good to know. Shall I tell Trelawney to target your knees next time?" Or would there be no next time? Yes he knew damn well what she meant, but he had been trained to withstand a lot of pain. Or did she really not know what he did...still....

He turned them slowly in time with the music, his eyes taking stock of the room before returning to Ivy. Good Odin the music here was worse than the polka they played in a lift. "Vonderful, thank you. I have to say...you look more than just fine tonight." Erik leaned in to her ear. "You look ravishing."

That was an honest compliment. Not always the case with him, but vell, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every once in a while.

Ivy narrowed her eyes more at the annoyingly handsome man she was dancing with, significantly tightening her grip on his hand. Every time she was reminded of Trelawney, she wanted to throw things around the room. But... this was a professional gathering and she was supposed to impressing people. So, after a deep breath, she managed to calm herself. But not before she muttered "Shut up," under her breath.

But she was calm now, yes... And she had to admit, Erik was a rather good dancer. It wasn't anything too fancy, but he seemed to know what he was doing. Ivy had to refrain herself from rolling her eyes at his comment, although she did appreciate it. If it was true. And ravishing, really? That wasn't something you heard everyday. Ivy smirked slightly. "Am I really supposed to believe that?" she questioned him quietly. For all she knew, he could just be trying to butter her up.

Erik could only chuckle in reply to her little glare and mutter routine. Oh Ivy. Was he supposed to regret his snide remark because she was gripping his hand now? No, some men would mistake that gesture for a squeeze. Erik did not even flinch under the additional tension in his grip. He enjoyed her spitfire too much.

"Well, it's true," he shrugged slightly. "Just because I don't tell you everything about me doesn't mean I'm lying to you when I do get to speak with you." He paused to spin her out, fancy like, and then pulled her back in even closer. They were in the far corner of the dance floor now.

"Listen, I have something to ask you." Something small, but important.

Ivy considered his reasoning as she gracefully spun out of his hold... and then back in, noticing they were much closer to each other this time. She studied him closely. "Compliment accepted," she said finally, relaxing in his hold.

Ah, she had a feeling this was coming, especially since they had made their way over to the far corner of the dance floor. Couldn't they just have a nice dance together? As she studied his face, hers remained emotionless. "What is it?"

Good, they were making some progress. Or something. Erik subtly moved his hand around to the small of her back. He still wasn't sure he could trust her, but this was...just a question. Ivy was sharp as a tack and would doubtlessly counter his question with another question when did she not but he'd just have to risk it.

"What do you know about the umbrella vinora plant?" His eyes stayed focused on her face, searching for something.

Ivy was aware of his every movement... Just so you know. She kept her eyes on his. He definitely wanted something. Her eyes narrowed just barely when he asked about the umbrella vinora plant. She didn't know what she was expecting him to ask, but it definitely wasn't that. She remained quiet for a moment or two, remembering reading about it the dangerous plant within the castle walls of Hogwarts. "It's a plant with a mind of it's own. It likes to steal things, particularly... warm-blooded things." Ivy continued to study his face carefully. "Why do you ask?"

There, there it was. The question. A smile tugged at the corner of Erik's lips but this was not the time. His face showed a moment of impatience, not for her, but for himself.

"I ask because I have to ask." He continued to lead the dance in a small circle, with small steps. "Is there anything else to it? Country of origin? Favoured habitat?" It was too simple. He was suspicious...not that he was doubting Ivy's knowledge on the subject, just...the subject itself.

He had always hated Herbology and Potions for this reason. It just didn't make sense.

Ivy narrowed her eyes at Erik again. "There's a reason behind your asking." And she wanted to know before she went into more detail. And he was being rather demanding about it, too... Goodness. Ivy let a moment of silence settle between them before replying.

"I don't know," she replied simply. And maybe that was true. Maybe it was somewhere in the back of her mind, or maybe it was in a book in her library back home, or maybe she simply did not know. Even if she did know, Ivy wasn't quite sure she would share it with Erik. At least not now.

"Of course there is," he said softly, his eyes flicking about impatiently again, almost into an eye roll. Erik let the silence fall too, even with the weird music blasting all around them. "Ivy," he tried to inject some patience into his tone a few moments later, "just think about what you know about me. You said you wanted to work with me despite what you do or do not know." Though now she also didn't have much choice any more...not his fault. "Was that true?"

...and now she was clamming up. Fine. He inhaled slowly and said nothing further, though at least he was still dancing with her. Just very quietly dancing.

He was getting impatient, Ivy could tell. And that definitely wasn't winning him any points in her book. He was getting further away from that answer he wanted. "That was true," she replied calmly and quietly. "Things have changed, Erik. I need something to go off of. We're supposed to be working together. I'm not just going to follow you around like a lost puppy and do everything you ask like a petty ball boy."

Ivy kept her eyes on him as the danced. She wasn't done. "You obviously know who I am and what I do. I have answers if you're willing to cooperate and play nicely." Was that so hard?

Things had changed? Now that was something Erik didn't want to hear...unless it benefited him somehow. Some changes could be good. He exhaled at the words 'lost puppy,' a breath that became a shallow laugh.

"All right, Ivy," he dipped her down and let her hang there for a bit while his blue eyes pierced her pretty face. "I might have answers too...if you phrase your questions right. Be mindful that I can't just have a tell all session with you in the middle of the British Ministry of Magic."

And just what had he asked her to do, hmm? One thing. One tiny thing. So far.

Ivy was mildly surprised when Erik sent her into a dip, but she actually couldn't help but show the tiniest of smiles on her lips. And it was even geniune, too. But it soon faded as she stared into his blue eyes... Good. That was a good start. "I wouldn't expect you to," she replied.

Her smirk returned. "Why, yes, Erik. I would love to go on a date with you, how kind of you to ask." 'Tell all' session, date, same thing. "Name the place and time and I'll be there." Ivy shot him a subtle wink, obviously in a better mood now that things had gone her way... a little.

Well at least one of them was smiling. Erik could have smacked himself in the forehead for walking straight into that one. Women.

"I never thought I'd hear you say the L word, darling," he countered, a slow smirk spreading to his face finally. He swung her back up from the dip. "But I knew it was only a matter of time before you realized your true feelings for me." Speaking of which, Erik had a feeling he was going to be 'kneed' soon, so he released Ivy from their dance hold, keeping one of her hands in his. He led her to the edge of the floor where they had started and brought the hand carefully to his lips for a kiss, keeping both blue eyes on her.

Alvays keep your eyes on the target. "Thank you for the dance."
