"You'd better be." she smiled at him, but when he winced, she raised an eyebrow. "I don't usually step on your feet. What was that wince for?" she tilted her head at him. Also, she wasn't THAT heavy! It wasn't like she could do much damage to him.

"I will." he said with a soft smile as well. "No, you don't, not normally. I just know how painful heels can be on someone's toes. So just the thought of a heel...Not necessarily yours. Just the thought of one on a toe." UGH, okay that didn't sound good at all!

Her eyebrows raised and a small snicker escaped. "Who stepped on your toes in heels?" she asked with a grin. She was curious, but also trying to pass the time until the end of the dance. Hooooome. It was calling her.

"Tasha." he said pulling a face "Over in the entrance hall not long after I got here, she stepped back and right on my foot." Heh, a little painful, but that was the last time anyway. Before he was sure was the last time they'd had the orientation just after the last new year.

"You're such a baby." she pulled a face at him, obviously playing. "I can be really mean with heels, so just be glad it was her instead of me." she glanced around the room. Was it over yet?

Well that was a change from being 'old' was there like a medium between the two though? Something like AVERAGE age? "I know you can." he said with a smirk. "All I'm saying is those spikes can really hurt."

Rolling her eyes at his whining again, she moved closer and closed her eyes. She was tired, but refused to fall asleep like this. It was pretty much impossible, but hey, if you were tired enough...

His arm moved around her more as she moved closer and moved to the music, just happily dancing with her. He wasn't complaining, and could stay there all night but knew if he tried that she'd likely smack him or go home on her own or even both. So no, after the dance, he'd bow out nicely.

Relaxing, she swayed with him and tried to stifle her yawns, but a couple still managed to escape. Merlin, could they go now?

"Shall we go love?" he asked gently. She looked like she might just fall asleep right there on the dance floor! How would he explain that? 'Yes, uhh excuse us, mhmm I know it's not a slow dance anymore...but she's asleep'?

Nodding with her eyes closed, she yawned again. "I'd love to. We still need to eat." Yeah, she had to eat before bed. She kept forgetting and she was trying to make sure she ate three times a day.

"Okay love. Let's go." he said softly, stopping their dancing waiting so she could move so they could head for the exit. Yeah, he was feeling a little hungry, so that wasn't a bad idea!

Moving away from his shoulder, she kept hold of his hand and headed for the door. She wasn't going to apologise for being tired, it just came with having a new baby and probably everyone who was here knew that.

Keeping his hand in hers, he followed her towards the door. If he saw the minister he'd apologize for leaving, but he was taking his wife home. It was the least he could do. She needed sleep, and it was supposed to be a nice quiet night too!
His attention was still pretty much on Chelsea--because unlike Aspen, he wanted to make a few... acquaintances, at least. But his ears were also on his girlfriend and the MAN beside her, even though the chatter in the hall made it harder to listen to them.
He wanted to "Surpriseeeee!" Aspen, but he'd foolishly dismissed that chance by offering Chelsea to wander around. There was a MAN that could be injured would ruin the romance, though. WHY was there a MAN? He was left to hope that he would catch her alone without her seeing him first.
"Let's follow them," he said--his face betraying none of his annoyance--as he indicated to a woman walking to somewhere intently.
Follow who? Instinctively, Chelsea turned to look at whoever it was her new companion was talking about. Her gaze traveled with the woman walking away for a moment, before the brunette turned her head back toward Joăo. "Okay," because.. why not? Could be fun, people following. Plus, it beat standing around in the entrance to the ball, even if it was nice looking.
So with that, Chelsea followed in the direction of the complete stranger, glancing over to make sure she hadn't lost her fellow new employee maybe once or twice as she made her way through the semi-crowded place.
The room changed, and almost immediately, Chelsea lost sight of the woman. Possibly because she couldn't help but look up toward the ceiling, taking in the open night above, flakes of snow falling but not reaching any one of them in the ballroom.. which she did notice, that they had ended up in the ballroom, with the enchanted instruments, the shiny floor, and all the couples dancing.
"It's beautiful," Chelsea said under her breath, to no one in particular. The white and black room, and the ceiling, or night sky rather. She had heard from cousins that Hogwarts' Great Hall also had an enchanted ceiling, but never had she seen it for herself.

Joăo hadn't liked the sculpture at all, but he liked this hall a lot. It was like, they saved all the aesthetic sense to this hall. He even let himself smile, and wasn't surprised to see that Chelsea liked it too. He personally didn't like snow, obviously, but today even that looked beautiful. The music was alright too, but his face hardened at that. What if that MAN would dance with HIS girlfriend? Maybe he should be on guard here in case the man tried to touch her. Yeah.
"This promises to be entertaining." Hopefully. If the man kept his hands off his girlfriend.
"You said you are new as well? Which department are you in?"

Entertaining? Watching the mostily older people dancing on the shiny floor that looked as though they should be slipping any moment now, would be entertaining? Chelsea didn't doubt him, necessarily. She just wasn't sure.. oh look, wait.. what dance was THAT man doing?
Chelsea stifled a giggle, and turned green eyes toward the enchanted instruments which provided the music. Not bad, not bad at all.
"Yes," The brunette answered, attention shifting back toward Joăo along with her gaze. "Magical Creatures. What about you?"

Creatures? Blegh. Joăo hoped she would do her best to keep those away from him. Truly, WHO would love those? He really wondered whether some of them dealt with them to save others from the effort.
He didn't share his ideas with her, though. Wouldn't be too pleasant to talk so only after 10 minutes of meeting.
"I'm..." He hadn't shared his position with anyone yet. Chelsea didn't deserve to be the first. "...in Minister's Office." Pause. "So you like creatures?" Just checking, y'know.

Reason: Coding. Shame on me.
Vic expected the ballroom to be a little more crowded. There were only a few couples spinning on their spots. He led Emily to the dancing floor, and turned to assume the position. He instinctively looked at her shoes, "Are you a good a dancer? Will my toes be bleeding after one dance?" He seemed unable to wipe the grin off his face, and he wasn't doing it on purpose even. On the bright side, though, and even if she wasn't a good dancer, he was, and he knew perfectly well how to dodge a lady's shoe.

Emily followed Vic's lead to the ballroom, and while she wasn't the dancing type, it would have been rude to refuse the gesture. A sly smile turned up the corner of her lips at her companions question. "I am, actually, so no... no bleeding feet," or at least, it wouldn't be as a result of her incompetence on the dance floor.
Taking Vic's hand in hers, her other on his shoulder, she waited for his lead. "Do you, dance often?" she questioned, wondering if perhaps she ought to be the one leading.

She was? Phew. Vic didn't hide the relief washing over his face before he took her hand in his and placed the other one on her waist. It made sense after he gave it a little bit of thought, she was the only daughter to her mum, she'd probably want her to know dancing. At least when she was younger and didn't set a career path. Anyway his notions would be corrected or proved after this dance.
Vic took the lead, and kept light conversation. "In answer to your earlier question, yes, my sister. I don't know when our roles switched and she took the responsibility of taking care of me like that." His suit, his tie, and most importantly his date for the night. "I dance. Not often, but I make sure I stay good in case I have a ball to attend and a boss to dance with." He chuckled, took a back step and twirled her once.

The relief on Vic's face was both amusing and slightly offensive. As if she could be anything less than competent. She was by no means perfect, but perfection was an intrinsic goal of hers. Dancing though, had come reluctantly - not that it didn't have its uses.
Emily danced in step to Vic, the movement came naturally, without much thought, leaving her free to reflect on other things. "It's natural... to want to look after those that looked after you...She probably understands you well enough to point out what you can't see for yourself." It was one of those intricate psychological .. things. People could be blind to the most obvious things, even when it was right in front of them. Herself included.
Lifting her chin slightly, Emily took the twirl gracefully, her dress fanning out in the process, before reconnecting after a natural pause. She grinned. "Well, now I'm really sorry to see Wesley go..." dancing with the boss indeed, my my. Intriguing though, that he had accepted her promotion so readily, it still played on her mind. Naturally she appreciated people who asked questions, for the right reasons, Vic, asked none. "Do you not find me intimidating?" she asked, resisting the urge to pout.

Vic thought about what she said for a moment, his own moves coming natural and in sync with hers, it didn't hit him how easy it was to dance with Emily until much later. Of all the ladies he'd danced with, he was always in some kind of nervous state, either due to the fact that he wanted to escape or that he wanted to impress. Not that he didn't want to impress Emily, making a good impression was part of who he was and what he did in courtrooms, but it wasn't something... forced on him. "Your dancing apparently makes for great rationalization asset." Not that she wasn't rational when she was not dancing, but he didn't hear her rationalizing much yet. Besides, it was a compliment to her dancing technique. Ravenclaws flirting, how 'bout that. "I agree. We find ourselves blind to the most obvious things sometimes, it happens to me when I'm stuck in courtroom. I'd dwell into the evidence list and question the close and far witnesses missing a tiny details or words said by the defendant themselves that could make all the difference." See? Easy dancing and talking with someone who got his work! Vic was loving this.
He laughed out loud, pausing a bit in their dance, and took his hand off her waist to poke her nose just a bit. "Cheeky." Vic was the kind of person who'd take dancing with Wesley as a dare, though, and WOULD do it. But he didn't offer or let that show, that would be inappropriate in this sort of balls.
... oh. Huh. Vic's forehead furrowed as he forced out a single laugh. "Uhh, what's your definition of being intimidating?" He didn't want to answer that without elaborating on the question.

She then nodded at his question. "I'm pretty sure I am! I'm a bit nervous... but I think I'm ready." she admitted with a slow nod. She couldn't help but feel a teensy bit nervous, y'know. Ronnie was all about making very good first impressions. And she also just still couldn't believe she actually had a job now. At the ministry! Who would of known she'd get to her official job so quickly. "What about you?" she asked as they danced to the music.
Jory grinned broadly. "You're just saying that,'' he teased. He could hardly look away from her. Ronnie looked so beautiful. "But I have to admit, I was surprised. I guess I could have been worse.'' At least he had not stepped on her toes back then. And now? He was not worried one bit. Nope. Because Jory was very much confident about his dancing.
He was silent for a while before he answered. Jory knew how Ronnie was feeling because he was feeling the same way. "I'm nervous too,'' he admitted. But they must remain positive. "But we'll get through it. Just give me one of those pretty smile of yours and I'll do just fine.'' He winked.

Her dancing made for a great realisation asset? Well if that wasn't a compliment, then she didn't know what was. Smirking slighly, Emily made a small gesture of bowing her head. "So thrilled I could be of service," she mused with a silvery chuckle.
Emily agreed, again, they seemed to be doing a great deal of that. "I know exactly what you mean, it's similar in the field. You get too caught up on what you could expect or should expect, imagine the worst case scenario, try to make too much of the challenges you're presented with... only to find it's not always as complicated as it first seems. Sometimes, the answers, are those we've dismissed as being too easy and therefore not likely possibilities."
They seemed to have transitioned into the next song easily, adjusting their rhythm and timing to the slower tempo. Dancing, from memory, usually felt like work. There were impressions to make, social etiquette to practice, and the company was generally stiff and at the least, was little to be desired. Dancing with Vic though, was pleasant. Cheeky? Hardly. "You walked right into that one," she justified.
Vic's single laugh amused her. He required a definition of intimidating? ... how very curious. "Intimidating, to overawe, to evoke feelings of being inhibited..." were the standard definitions that she offered, but offered a clarifying point, "seeing as I'm your scary boss lady now." She used the terms he'd used earlier, they were actually starting to grow on her. Scary boss lady, Sir, had a nice ring to it.
