Regardless of how you arrived at level 9, whether by lift or staircase, the first thing which greets you is a long corridor. You may or may not sense a change in temperature as you walk through the scarcely lit area as the air here is very still. Just about the only other moving thing in the space are the flames which eminate from the walls, but you might also find a wizard or two passing this way to a trial for there is a flight of stairs heading toward the Courtrooms to the left.
Strange that the Ministry's Courtrooms should ask that one travel through one of the most secretive Departments in all of the Ministry. It isn't particularly easy to get lost here, but whatever you do don't try to go through the black door unless you happen to be an Unspeakable.
OOC: Any character from any department, or even the general magical community may be RP'd here, but if he or she wishes to get into the Department of Mysteries proper they should wait for an Unspeakable to assist them. He or she could get lost or possibly in a fix with security.

Although he already knew Jasper and the older man already knew about his security presence and procedures from previous years before his promotion, Simon still felt he wanted to check on things with him first. Well after Paxton from Transportation. He did need to double check the progress of the trainee idea Mitterbill had discussed with him before the break, nothing having been mentioned to him by the other end, aka Emily.
So he here was, down in the main corridor of Level 9 and the guts of the Department of Mysteries debating which way to go. The auror might have been down here before for rounds but it still was a maze of places. And not only was it far more complicated then their temporary home aboard ship a few years back but he also had no Evelyn to assist him by chance. That left the security man wandering a little, checking up on wards and other spells along the way. Surely he would be noticed eventually.

Or maybe he was still adjusting to the idea of being responsible for an entire department and knowing that it rested on his skills to protect it and the secrets it held.
"Hello?" He called to the footsteps. Wand at the ready. "Are you lost?"

"No...not particularly," he answered, turning in the direction of the voice's origin. It was not as if he hadn't had experiences in the long dark corridors before. Continuing on his small journey it wasn't long before he noticed the department head he had wondered if it truly was when the older man had spoken. "Hello..." He returned, offering a small polite smile at the man despite noticing the readied wand.
"Just security making its appearance..." He mused.

Well if that wasn't the welcoming sound of someone into the department, Simon didn't know what was. It was a testament to people's personalities when one thoughts about their feelings to his presence in their departments. Jasper had never had a problem, nor his predecessor. "Jasper..." he said simply with a nod to acknowledge his greeting.
Lunch time? Had he really spent that much time above? "Sure," he agreed being polite, "Though I came also to check on things for the new year." Business with pleasure.

There was no such thing as heliopaths, right? Jasper was trusting, by design perhaps. So it made him no nevermind that Simon or anyone else from Security checked in every now and again. If anything it reassured him. Aside from that, he liked the young man. Enjoyed his company and found him intelligent. Thus, he considered him a friend as well.
He led them down the corridor to the black door and beyond it to the circular room which led to his office.

The tune of the lift heading down from the Offices of Level 1 to Level 9 is a bit too catchy today. Zach stepped out of the lift trying to remember which of these doors will take him into the Department Head's office, not the Brain Room, not the Hall of Prophecies the Department Head's Office..
He looked around and walked towards a stately looking door. Here goes nothing...
