Aron gave Jade a nod of acknowledgement. Hopefully something could be learned from the creatures being held, but if that turned out not to be the case then they would find out what they needed another way. He still needed to check with Roxanne about those permits, so there may be a lead there.

"We're not sure exactly where it came from," Aron said while pinching the bridge of his nose. "The crups escaped from a cosmetic lab and showed up around the same time that Mutant X caused havoc in the laboratory." As Jade had just said in her rundown. "I have reason to believe that it came from the same place the crups did. I am hoping that Jade can retrieve some memories from both to help us figure out this puzzle a bit more, along with the results of some DNA testing." Aron shoved both hands into his jeans pockets while he began going over his mental check list of things he needed to get done in regards to this particular case.

Like that paperwork he needed to get sorted out.

"Afraid this is where I have to take my leave for now. Paperwork waits. I'll see you in a bit then, Jade."

And then the Department Head began to make his way back towards his office.

Armand thought about it a bit, then sighed. It didn't fall into his job description, so he had nothing he could officially do. "Well, Ms. Gemstone, let me know if there's anything I can do. I do have some skill in divination, if that might be an option. Otherwise if you could get a blood sample, I could see what I can do to help out."

He looked over at Derek. The man was likely the type to hold a grudge. "Mr. Meriwether, I do apologize. I was not warned ahead of time. However, I was attempting to make access to the supplies more efficient."

Not only did he have to deal with a new ~~nosy~~ 'supervisor', but now they wanted to talk about the destruction of his lab? Great. Just great. Could this morning get any better?

Derek huffed and kept watching the others, not adding anything to the conversation. All he could still think of was the fact he needed to find a way to keep all those people - one in particular - AWAY from his things. Supervisor.... pfft. Derek did not need a supervisor! How dare they!? He took very good care of HIS LAB. His. Hm.

'Ms. Gemstone, a sincere pleasure to meet you.'

Could he be sick right there? Derek gave the Erikson person a nasty look before crossing his arms over his chest and looking at Aron and rolling his eyes at the 'supervisor''s next question. The former Gryffindor couldn't help but to look back at the Erikson person and give him a 'oh please' stare. Did he really think they knew who had brought that thing in? ACTUALLY, did he REALLY think Derek would have let anyone with such a thing into HIS lab??

Oh, of course he'd think that. That Erikson person probably thought Derek was some sort of irresponsible child, who couldn't maintain a lab by himself.

Bitterness all around. Bitter looks at you, Erikson person. BITTER. LOOKS.

Then the man started talking to Jade again, saying how he'd love to help and blah blah blah. 'I do have some skill in divination... yadda yadda.' Urgh.

His boss was leaving, that meant he could leave too, yes? Yes. But not before shooting A LOT of other nasty looks at that silly 'supervisor' first.

Supervisor..... pfffft.

Wait a second..... Erikson was talking to him now? He was apologising?? As if Derek would believe that. Hah, right. 'I was attempting to make access to the supplies more efficient.' WHAT now? Derek narrowed his eyes and pursed his lips at this comment. How DARE he say that his lab was disorganized??

Fuming and without saying a word to either one of them, Derek walked off and stomped his way back to his lab to reorganize everything.

Jade nodded her thanks to Armand, "Thanks." She thought about what he had said a bit before continuing, "actually, the blood sample doesn't sound like a bad idea. If I can get a hold of one or better yet of the deadly pink goo that Mutant X seems to be leaving all over the place. Maybe more testing would reveal what we are up against."

She frowned as Derek turned from the two of them and stomped off.

She apologized to Armand with a shrug. "You'll get used to him, but if I were you I'd follow him. Most likely he is headed off to the lab. Maybe there you will be able to talk to him. Word of advice though, treat him as an animal that is shy and wary at least at first." She wasn't going to tell Armand that the best policy of dealing with Derek is just to be up in his face all the time. That is how she got to befriend him anyhow.

"Pink goo... well, either shall do. Both would likely be better. Please let me know whatever I can do." He watched as the other man stomped off and shook his head. "I've had to deal will all manner of man and creature before; I know territorialism when I see it. It will be a fight, that is for certain, before a true working relationship would be fostered." Isn't that right, Little Kin? With a sigh he bowed to her. "I think I shall do as I say and follow him... and perhaps get into the lab before he tries to lock me out." With that, he took his leave and made his way to the lab. If things didn't work out well, he would be forced to take his work home with him... which didn't do well when it came to working as a team.

Sometime after, Armand led the way to their work areas. Once the warding was up, he looked at his supervisor, more to acknowledge him than anything and his need to be here, before turning to Derek. "I apologize for the methodology, but I hope my message appropriately got through. Supervisor or not, I am not fully briefed on the situation, so I would appreciate, Mr. Meriwether, your idea on our actions at this junction."

Flopping down in the seat nearest him - this particular employee was out on assignment so they wouldn't be missing their seat anyway - he leaned back and listened as Armand spoke before turning his gaze to Derek. Sounded like there was still some tension going on between the two, which he had expected. At least neither one of them had tried to kill the other, so that was something.

"If I may," Aron interjected. "One thing at a time starting with the equipment. I believe the machines are fixable, but we also have it within budget to buy new ones if you would rather." He would leave that up to Derek since, well, equipment in there were like his babies. One didn't just throw out a baby because it had a poopy diaper. "Those samples are, unfortunately, rubbish and will have to be tossed." He kicked his feet up on the empty desk in front of him.

So, now that that was taken care of...on to the cause.

"I took a glance at one of the machines before I left the lab and saw bite marks all over the back of it and severed wiring, similar to what was found on other levels. Now that those things have been contained, things seemed to be slowly returning back to normal. All fingers point to those blasted mutants, unless either of you have another theory."

Derek was still very disturbed at what had just happened and was quite mad at the state his lab was in again. Bloody things - whatever they were - destroying his stuff every time! He kept giving the Erikson person suspicious looks every now and then because... well, because that man was just odd.

Aron replied to the 'supervisor' before he did, which Derek appreciated, yet he was still frowning. Another thing Derek quite liked was the fact his boss looked at him when the equipment was mentioned. "They can be fixed." The 28 year-old said quietly, giving Aron a nod as a sort of... 'thank you'. He also believed the machines were fixable, so there was no need in buying new ones, in Derek's opinion. People/things/whatever should just stop destroying them, for Merlin's SAKE.

Like they had done to the samples that were now going to be thrown away. "The records are secure, by the way." Derek told his boss ~~and not his supervisor~~. "I--- Um... we..." >_____> "...weren't done testing them, though." Which was irritating and made him even angrier at whatever had messed up his lab AGAIN.

Mutants, exactly. Derek had never discarded the idea of those stupid creatures still being a pain. In fact, he still had a very strong urge to strangle all of them the next time he saw them. The former Gryffindor pursed his lips and stared blankly at the desk in front of them.

Those bloody creatures had better not show up in his lab while he's in there...

Armand frowned. At this point, he had turned all business. This left an impression of emotionlessness, which made him seem a little less human. "How did those bloody creatures get past us?" He shook his head. "I could try warding the lab, but with those samples destroyed, unless we get more, I don't really know what I'm warding against. I have no way of developing one for this creature. They obviously can seem to slip past checkpoints. I originally thought maybe an internal saboteur. I'm not all to certain that possibility had been eliminated, however. Nor can I track them. My divination is rather restricted to finding the fate lines of those who I can see, or at least know. And it sounds like we're dealing with multiple mutants at this point. Tracking one, even if it has a fate line, would do no good."

He looked to Derek. "Do you think there's anything in the records that could help develop a ward against them? Some power you've seen them use, or... well, anything?" To be honest, he'd never had to deal with warding against an unknown entity. Learning how to ward against a known entity was hard enough.

He looked to Aron again. "What are the chances that someone intentionally introduced these things to the Ministry? Either they have enough intelligence to counteract our responses against them, or they're getting orders somehow."

Aron gave Derek a quick nod. "I'll leave the repairs to you then. Let me know if you require other personnel to help you with that." Some of the spell researchers perhaps. It had been a while since he had seen any paperwork on the development of anything new from them. And Armand's suggestion seemed like something right up their alley as well. "You may want to see what you and Natasha can come up with, once we know more about what exactly happened here. Just had all sorts of preventive enchantments placed on the place and new security measure installed...so clearly we are missing something," he grumbled while pinching the bridge of his nose.

Something small...something they weren't seeing.

And then Derek dropped a bomb. The testing hadn't been finished and now they had lost all their samples. "Well, thank Merlin for that at least," he said with regards to the research being safe. "All of those things are back in captivity, so we can always get more DNA samples if needed. But...is there anything conclusive with what you found? Anything?" Even the make up of the drool would be useful.

His eyes were back on Armand now. "Can't rule that out entirely, I suppose. There may be a small chance of that, but there is more reason to believe that these creatures just fled here from the laboratory explosion about a year ago. All evidence, including the report from Law Enforcement, points to that." He was pretty skeptical about these things having that level of...intelligence. They just seemed to drool everywhere.

Aron probably had no idea how much Derek appreciated what he had just said. The fact his boss let Derek himself repair the equipment was a great relief and it even made the 28 year-old think better, oddly enough. He gave Aron another 'thank you' nod and was already planning on starting asap. Like, that very day even.

The 'supervisor' was saying something about developing a ward against the intruders and Derek actually really liked that idea. Though he wouldn't say so, obviously. Especially because it was Erikson. Nevertheless, Derek would be helpful because they would be protecting his lab in a way he would never be able to. "The mutants were once regular magical creatures." He suddenly said, his voice sounding louder than he wished, as if often did. But maybe this was just because he didn't usually speak, so it was just weird whenever he did. "Um, one was a simple kneazle, for instance." Derek added, lowering the tone of his voice as he tried to remember the things he had written on the reports. "There was also a former clabbert, a jarvey... a murtlap and a niffler." Was that all? He thought so. "They were probably being used to test newly developed products, since there was some chemicals like Erythrosine and Tartrazine in some of their DNA tests, so I suspect they were being used as guinea pigs in some sort of... odd bakery or cosmetics lab." He could be wrong, though, but those synthetic dyes were used mainly in food or cosmetics that needed colouring. "But then again, something very powerful happened for them to transform like that. Either something went badly wrong with the mixtures or maybe a magical incident." Derek shurgged and... decided he had done enough talking. That was loads of information for them to work with, yeah? Derek felt drained from talking so much already, but if those bits of information could help them protect his precious lab from those bloody beasts, he would talk as much as needed ~~within his limitations~~.

What? Wait, what? Aron wasn't saying that those creatures had popped out of his lab, was he? Derek turned so fast to look at his boss that his neck hurt a bit. Aron wasn't implying that those creatures had come out of his lab, had he? What what what? There were no random creatures like a flipping kneazle in his lab! What was this madness?

...

Or was it just that odd supervisor messing with his brain again? UGH. Derek did NOT appreciate that at all. .....Ugh, he had probably done too much talking.................. Could he go back to his lab and start fixing his equipment yet?

He decided not to correct his supervisor in the death of his first wife.

"Kneazles are highly intelligent, as much as I hate to admit it." He shook his head. The idea of one of them being a kneazle made him internally shudder. "And they have great magical sense. If that turned, it might be able to interpret some things as being dangerous, both to itself and the other mutants. If they weren't purposefully introduced, whichever original creature is the most intelligent has a high chance of feeling that they somehow need to protect ourselves from us. After all, of all the equipment in the laboratory... They had ample chance to make a mess of the entire place. Why only the equipment that could potentially preserve their samples?"

He thought a bit about what Derek said, then looked to him. "Perhaps we should experiment with the use of synthetics in potions. Slade used them more often than I, but I've had my hand in it myself. But synthetics are usually not used in many potions due to their unpredictable nature." He and Slade had caused a number of explosions in their experiments. Though naturally, Slade was able to predict synthetic use in potions better than he. "Our best option right now is to ward against the chemicals within the creatures, and see if it keeps them from entering our floor. Though it has just as great a possibility to trap them here if they are already hiding somewhere. This will keep anyone out who uses products that contain the same chemicals from entering or leaving, but I think it's our best chance for now. Warding every entryway; doors, windows, ventilation, and so forth, would also keep them contained within a particular area if they're already here. If it works, we may be able to modify a devil's trap ward to capture the creatures. If we have even one, I could attempt divination on it."
