The fact that Gavin saw her looking, and opted to turn away, didn't improve her mood any. At this stage she was ready to cut her losses, leave the pretty people to admire themselves in the warped mirrors, and escape to some form of solitude in this Circe forsaken place. Or just leave the Gala in its entirety... she'd come and seen, and so she could go.
After that display of blatant and unnecessary courtship, Stephen continued to dig his grave, or so it seemed. Stiff? Love? "Don't like me for who I am, I couldn't care less." Stiff or not, she liked who she was, and she wasn't changing for anyone. "But sure... apology accepted," she mused, in an attempt to play nice. It didn't dismiss his behaviour that day, nor did it dismiss his behaviour now, but in the end, for the sake of civil progress, she could comply. He wasn't someone she had to see frequently, and for Gavin's sake if nothing else, she could pretend she didn't hear him and simply smile and nod. And so she did, smile and nod.
As for the family thing, she couldn't agree with that, at all. On the one hand, she could no longer say she didn't have a family, she had Zeke, and he was about the closest thing to family she had since leaving Hogwarts. "That's a stretch," she commented, robbing him of that point. Family was not something she picked up freely, especially not when it was based on something as fruitless as a friendship with her her boyfriend.
She was done here. A survey of the exit told her the path was clear and she could escape, but what she heard next held her back. Say what Stephen? Emily turned to gauge Gavin's reaction to his 'mates' relationship advice. The man had a way with women, coercing them so to speak, but as it was, he did actually give some sound advice. Her brows were arched with interest and something more, respect. Did Gavin hear it? She waited, but was prepared to leave him to his reflection if it was too much for him to comprehend. She had better things to do than waste her time.

If there was one thing Gavin couldn't stand about his bestmate it was how his mouth ran a mile a minute. Much too fast for his brain to catch up and much too fast for him to accurately guage anything and not muddle up a conversation. Gavin had only been listening so much to the exchange between the two, convinced that if Stephen wanted to shove his foot in his mouth that was all him and had no effect on the Senior Undersecretary but then the conversation changed to him and the grimace that followed only served to create frown lines. This just wasn't his night.
Gavin pried his eyes away from the mirror once more, giving the man an unimpressed look before realizing another set of eyes on him. The arched brows probably didn't mean anything good for him. "You," he said, looking to Stephen again, "talk too much." Truly and it was unhealthy. Gavin looked to Emily again to say something but was stopped by what he did finally notice.
"How long've you been wearing a dress?" This was NEWS to him.

"A way to always keep your lady happy is by giving her all you attention, no matter how tempting anything else maybe. In this case it would be staring at his reflection, which was a lesson Stephen had to learn the hard way.
Tiffany widened her eyes as she felt Stephen caressing her knuckles? She locked her legs, so that she wouldn't completely buckle under his touch. When he spoke she let out a small giggle, this guy was so smooth. As he turned his attention onto another woman, Tiffany noticed a sudden repulsion in the woman's eyes.
Hmph. What's got her knickers in a twist.
She walked over and smiled at the grumpy woman. "I don't believe we've met," she said with a cheery tone. Maybe that would counteract the woman's "stiff" behavior, as Stephen had put it. "I'm Tiffany," she held out her hand.

In her panicked state Tiffany hadn't even realized that she had company. "OH!" she let out a small squeal. "Ahem, like wow, I didn't even see you there," oops. Real mirrors? What is this chick talking about? "Real mirrors?" she questioned? Uh yeah no, these mirrors were working REAL fine actually. Except for the fact that they seemed to reveal (and accentuate) the flaws that Tiffany's full body mirror at home, didn't show her.
Gabi chuckled. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you," she said, taking note of the girl and the way she was looking at her hips in the mirror. Girlllllll, she did NOT need to tell Gabi about feeling self-conscious about her hips. She could totally relate. But did she not even realize that all these mirrors were a little, erm...messed up?
"Well, I mean real as in - not all distorted and such. Didn't you notice your head looks like a balloon?" she asked. Gabi's did too, and her forehead was bigger than her entire body!

Of all the places she had to find herself, it had to be a hall of mirrors, from this day forward, she would avoid such places like the plague. A broom closet would make for a nicer way to spend the night. Clearly.
She was set to leave now. Her stomach was demanding something sweet, and even though there were people in the main function room, she was confident in her ability to ignore them in favour of food. Stephen did talk too much, that much she could agree with as Gavin finally managed to pry himself from the glorified glass that had captured his attention. His question that followed however...

How long? ...
"Long enough," she mused, still unimpressed. Motivation to repeat this behaviour was dropping, drastically. Dresses... were a waste of effort.
...
So, cake? custard? pastries? There had to be something to tickle her fancy in the other room.
Emily took a step in that direction only to be confronted with the peppy blondie that Stephen had attempted to court. "No, I don't believe we have," she replied trying to ignore the Circe forsaken cheer in the woman's voice. It was too early and late for that sort of thing. Only children sounded that carefree, and they didn't know any better. "Emily Browne," she replied, going through the motions, accepting the woman's hand and shaking briefly before retracting her hand. This wasn't going to be an attempt at chit chat was it? Hadn't she endured enough tonight?
