Flower Arranging Station

http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/...rarranging.jpg

If you think the flowers around the garden are gorgeous you'll be thrilled to know you can arrange your own to take home with you. There are tables set up as well as hired help to get you arranging your own bouquets in no time. Flowers of all species line the tables in a bright array leaving this whole area eye catching.

Plant lovers aren't the only ones welcome here. Anyone can stop by, grab a few flowers and strike up a conversation with a co-worker you might not have chatted with throughout the holiday.

Some of these are a lot more delicate than others and we dare say you'd offend the workers assisting you if you hurt the plants (even unintentionally) so be mindful of how you handle the plants at this table.

for anyone ^_^

Harmony couldn't help but grin as she made her way over to the flower arranging station. The setting of this party not only touched her heart, but also her soul, causing her pale yellow aura to pulsate. How lovely it was to be out and enjoying nature on such a beautiful day as this!

Pausing at a particularly lovely pink azalea, the red head picked it up and took a sniff. She then commented to no one in particular, "Flowers do so much to help brighten one's mood."

Ember skipped her way over to the floooooowers. FLOWERS. She had been SOOO excited that the ministry had picked such a LOVELY and PRETTY place to have its employees congregate at. MERLIN it was so preeeetty. Ember's face broke out into a VERY wide grin, though, when she saw that they could MAKE THEIR OWN BOUQUETS YAAHHH! She was SOOO going to do this. GAH.

"BOSSSS!" Ember suddenly cried, seeing Harmony--and she ran up to greet her with a HUG and a bow of her head and lots of...excitable noises similar to that of little puppies. HEH. "How's your break going?! I hope you're not as bored as I am--MERLIN, Harmony--" she said as she looked very dramatically BORED. "Will you be making an arrangement?! OH HOW CUTE IS ALL OF THIS!" She couldn't TAKE IT.

She was going to EXPLODE from excitement.

Jumping Jobberknoll, someone was excited to see her! The red head smiled serenely, hugging her enthusiastic employee back before taking note of her very vibrant outfit. So colorful, just like the woman's personality. Harmony approved.

"Break was a wonderful time to reflect and prepare for another exciting year at the ministry," the ever-positive department head said with a smile. Her brow furrowed when Ember shared that she was bored but as quickly as she'd mentioned it, they moved on to the next topic.

"It's lovely, this setup. Lets us get in touch with nature as we enjoy its beauty." Harmony held out the azalea to Ember as if sharing proof of her statement. "I can't help but wonder if they'd let me make a flower crown instead." She didn't see why it'd be an issue. "What about you?"

Ember was just glad to see her coworkers again because it meant ALMOST WORK TIME WHOOH. She looooved it, HEH. BUt it had been fun going to visit some of her Uni friends in Ireland. They were all kind of just...going their ways right now. It was good to catch up. Ember was one of the few of her group that lived in London. All the rest of them lived either in Ireland or nearby. Not that London was a stupendous distance, but still.

"I suppose. It is nice to be refreeeeshed so we don't get all burnt out--" she chuckled, though, as though this was the SILLIEST idea ever. Honestly, it was to Ember. She just...FELT SO MUCH ENERGY A LOT. "I hope it's just as exciting as my first year here--WOW. I've already been here a YEAR. But then again, it feels like so much longer--" she mused aloud. Hmm. "How long have you been here, again?" She was sure that Harmony had once told her, but Ember couldn't quite remember right now.

Ooooh NATURE. Ember smiled at the table with ALL kinds of flowers--SO PREEEETTY. Ember didn't think she'd ever quit thinking that, either-PRETTTTY! "I keep a garden at my parents' house. Not very many flowers...more...exotic and magical plants..but still." She shrugged. A garden was a garden. But her flat had a good bit of greenery in it, too. "A flower CROWN? Harmony--YOU'RE SUCH A GENIUS!" She cried suddenly and picked up one flower. "Only--I doubt they want us hurting these dears--is there a way to make a crown without...breaking their little stems?" she asked, her eyes wide. She thought there probably was. Her gardening SKILLLLZ weren't with flowers, unfortunately. But. She did LOVE them just the same!

For Ali ^_^ Mentions of you two ^

Cassie did think all the flowers looked absolutely gorgeous. She wandered over to the arranging station just to see what it was like. There weren't many people around so far, and she hoped the two already there wouldn't mind her stopping to watch them for just a minute. Maybe she could try arranging her own flowers. Later, perhaps. She was content with just observing for the moment. Cassie lifted her camera to her eye and snapped a picture of the scene in front of her. She made sure to get a bunch of flowers in various colors in the picture, and the two women considering their arrangements. She let the camera fall back and hang around her neck as she approached the table again to view the flowers. As she did, she couldn't help but overhear snippets of the women's conversation.

"A flower crown sounds lovely," she spoke up. She hoped they wouldn't think she had been eavesdropping. It had been hard not to hear bits and pieces of their conversation, considering they were the only ones around. She kept her focus mainly on the table instead of the women. Her comment hadn't been meant to draw their attention to her. She didn't want to interrupt her conversation, she'd just wanted to give her opinion. A flower crown did sound absolutely lovely.

continuing from the entrance

Emmalee smiled, and visibly relaxed as she saw the table of flowers. It wasn't as if she was stressed before, but something about being able to work with plants, even if it was something as simple as arranging, removed even the littlest bit of tension.

"Are your children going to be of Hogwarts age soon," Emmalee inquired of Daphne. Resting her hands on the table, she no longer looked at the women she walked over with, instead focusing her gaze on the options before her.

Selecting a star-gazer lily, Emmalee turned it over in her hand, briefly considering whether it was a hybrid. Satisfied that it had not come from her greenhouse, she set about picking other blooms to accompany the vibrant pink.

"What do you think," she said, turning to the other women and holding up two options. "Daisies or clematis?" Ooo.. was that moly? Emmalee set down the two she was holding and reached for the distinct black stem and white flowers.

After eating and having some social time with her best friend, Victoria made her way around the event. Even though she thought it was a bit different she figured she'd at least look around and mingle. Finding a flower area she couldn't help but walk further in. Looking it over it was just too tempting to not making a nice arrangement to take home. Now that she was a married woman again and her husband was going back and forth from home to work, she thought maybe making it look nice for his time at home would be a nice treat.

Walking over to a table she looked around, "These are very pretty." She said to the woman that was standing now next to her. "I'm wondering if environmental had a lot to do with this years planning." She knew that the department heads usually came together to do this, but this event really screamed DERP. "Making anything special?" She figured she could ask while she began making her own little floral piece.

Cassie heard the words of the woman come from somewhere near her. She glanced up from the table to see exactly where. The woman must have been talking to her, considering their distance. Even if she wasn't, she probably wouldn't mind if Cassie answered anyway. She was eager to meet some people, and hopefully get to know some people she might be working with.

"They are lovely," Cassie agreed. Again, she couldn't help but notice how her accent was obviously American. It didn't really bother her, it was just a fact that she couldn't get out of her mind. Instead, she focused on what the woman was saying. "I'm sure they did; it looks like something right up their alley." Who else could be responsible for such an event? "I'm not sure yet. Emmalee didn't really even have to turn around to know who had called her name. Stopping her stride, she turned, smiling. "Hello, Alex," she laughed. "And yes, it's good to be back. I'm anxious to get back to my plants." Emmalee also looked around. Yes, it did seem as if their greenhouses were the inspiration. "I just hope they didn't actually use anything from them!" She laughed, but was only partially joking. "I'd been working on a cross between a lily and a flutterby-bush and the results were... not exactly safe." She pulled a faux-concerned face. Certainly whoever had set this up wouldn't have taken anything out of the experimental greenhouse. Would they?

Emmalee stood by as the two women got acquainted. "Daphne was just saying she saw a flower arranging station," Emmalee interjected. "What do you say we all give that a shot before getting something to eat?"

She looked first to Alex and then to Daphne. Bonding? Or.. something?

Oh good, she hadn't interrupted anything. Not that she expected she would have. This was an open affair, meaning mingling with anyone and everyone was encouraged, yes? She did happen to catch Daphne speaking about children going to Hogwarts and if the Ministry always went all out like this. "Well goodness, of course they do! It's the British Ministry of Magic. It's a coveted place of employment, so we don't expect less than grandiose around here for parties!" Was it bad to have high expectations for the Ministry parties, probably. But Alex didn't really care either.

"Nice to meet you, Daphne and welcome! Where will you be working?" And like, how old was she if she had children? Because Alex was pretty sure she didn't look that much older than herself and goodness, she felt old all of a sudden and she didn't even have any children. "I doubt they'd use hybrid plants, but you never know... I'll keep my eyes peeled for unexpected occurrences though." Alex mused to Emmalee.

She let out a long sigh ... glancing between the two women. "Alright, alright. I mean you know I only come to these shindigs for the food, but you twisted my arm. Flowering arranging station it is." She nodded and waited to follow them ....

Daphne sort of tuned out as her two companions discussed their plants. She enjoyed a plant here and there but only as a household decoration or gift from her husband. Things like that. She'd never spent her days combining the different types and experimenting with the results. "No plants for me, but I did help restrain a loose Swedish Short-Snout here recently," she chimed in. She was pretty proud of that one. It was also a good conversation starter.

She nodded as Alex answered her question about the Ministry always going all out for things like this. "...and we have one every year? An orientation like this?" she asked. Maybe it'd be a luau or something next time! This was yet another reason why this move back to Great Britain was proving to be an excellent decision. "I'm on level four. Just not with Environment. I'm the Senior Dragon Researcher in Creatures," she replied.

Soon the small talk was cut short as their walk to the flower arranging station was done. They were here, and surprisingly, it wasn't packed like she imagined it'd be. She sat down next to Emmalee and stared at the flowers before her. Suddenly, she felt very inadequate. She loved flowers, and her husband gave her bouquets of them all the time, sometimes not even just for special occasions. Making a bouquet of them herself, though? She looked at the choices Emmalee held out then finally pointed to the daisy. "I like that one," she said. Then, as an afterthought, she added, "Well, my oldest will be at Hogwarts next year, but my youngest is only a few weeks old." She'd had Ryland on December 10.

The ministry was bigger and Victoria even though she knew many, she didn't know everyone. "I'm Victoria Culloden by the way." Should introduce herself at least.

Glancing around again it really did scream DERP, so she was sure it was them that had planned it. "Well either way it is a lovely evening." Though she'd rather be home snuggled up next to her husband, but work was work. Even the fun parts like orientation. Glancing up she watched the other woman make a crown, "So she is." It was pretty, but she thought maybe her daughters would like that more than her. "I think I'm going to just make an arrangement for my table at home." Something small and simple.

Though the more she thought about it the more she was considering the crowns for her girls. "What department do you work in?" That could help her know if the lady was new or not.

How long had Harmony been at the ministry? The red head tapped her chin thoughtfully, not having considered the time as the place felt too much like home to focus on such a thing. "Few years now, I s'pose." She smiled then, shrugging her shoulders. "I find that time goes by so quickly there that it's hard to keep track. Time flies when you're having fun and all." And the department was having fun. So much.

"Gardening is great for the mind! Did you know there have been studies of its benefits on mental health?" Fascinating stuff. Perhaps she could get her hands on some of this information and share it with her employee!

Brow furrowed, Harmony picked up another flower and toyed with the stem, gently testing its ability to bend. Her eyes flicked over to the new arrival to the table and smiled at the woman, then back to Ember. "I think they'll add some color to everyone's lovely outfits and perhaps braiding them together by the stems will help keep them unharmed but still work for the task!"

"Cassie White," she said with a friendly smile. She was glad that she was meeting new people at the event. There hadn't been any doubt in her mind that she would, but it was still nice to be in the process of meeting new people. The evening was extremely lovely, and so far all of the people she had met were lovely as well. Working at the ministry didn't seem like it would be bad at all.

"No matter what you do, it will be lovely." How couldn't it? Cassie couldn't imagine a single arrangement of flowers that wouldn't be absolutely beautiful. She forced herself to turn her attention away from the aesthetics and focus on Victoria's question. "International Magical Cooperation. I just got hired. And you?" So far she hadn't met anybody from her own department, which would have been nice, but it was also great to meet so many different people.

TeafortheSoul 10-14-2014 02:11 AM

Well.

This place was pretty daggy wasn't it? The whole thing? Swan boat rides, flower arranging, croquet... well at least there was food. So you'd think Rusty would go to the food and stay there but actually why not make a little something for his little someone at home? He was sure his daughter would like if he brought her some flowers, it'd make up for the fact that she hadn't been able to come as his date. If Lolly was here she'd be wanting to have a bash at the croquet though, probably literally. Probabably bash at the swans with the croquet mallets for that matter.

Flowers were safer.

And hell, he even matched given his floral shirt (worn under a leather jacket because while he was in touch with his feminine side it was important to balance these things). Alright. Okay.

Err...

So how exactly did one go about arranging flowers anyway?

Bhuvana was here again, for her second Ministry orientation, just as snobbish and just as lonesome as the first one. She ran her hands through some flower stems, then kept walking. How did flower arrangements even work? It wasn't like people were going to actually look at and judge the arrangements anyway, were they?

"Well Cassie it is very lovely to meet you." That's what this event was all about wasn't it? Bringing the ministry together and getting to know everyone whether they were in your department or not? She at least hoped that's what it as about, because she'd hate to be wrong all these years. Picking up some flowers she began looking at what she could possibly do. Was it going to be the crowns for the girls or maybe just the piece she was thinking of doing for the table.

"Yes, well I'm still leaning towards a nice center piece for my table. I think I will do that." She picked up some different assortments and started placing them together to see if she liked it or not. Not being the key word she set them aside and picked up a few other ones.

International she wasn't sure she'd ever met someone from that department, so this was a nice surprise. Vic liked to get to know everyone she could and liked to know about all the departments. "Wow that sounds interesting. Do you know exactly what you will do there yet?" It really could get exciting. "I am the Quidditch Division Manager in Magical Sports and Games." Yes she loved saying her full title, because she had an amazing team and they had done so much last season and even more through the off season. It was the best department really in her eyes.

"I'm so fancy, you already knoow. In tha fast lane...." Of course, she was singing the song sarcastically. Because whomever had planned this party had gone overboard with the fancy-smancy and underboard with the fun stuff. Seriously, she was trying to give it a chance, but where was the dance floor? The DJ? Anything whatsoever that made a party fun?

Anyway, she had made her way over to the flower-arranging station. While Sky could appreciate a good flower arrangement, she just didn't think that it was something one did at a party. But, she would try. Just so that she wasn't being a Debbie Downer. And luckily for her, there were two people here who seemed to be having as good a time as she was. "Hello!" she said to both, taking a sip of her strawberry lemonade (that she wished was something stronger).

Eh? Rusty looked up and then smiled at the young lady who had greeted him... and the other woman there? Apparently. Both of them. Both of them looking lost and useless when it came to this flower stuff. Maybe he should have gone over to the food after all.

"Hello." He said back, because that was what you DID in these situations. Also a smile and an inclusive one at that. Both of them got Rusty smiles, which was to say smiles from Rusty, not smiles that were rusty.

"Do either of you know how to... err... arrange?" Gesture gesture, at the flowers.

How did flower arrangements even work? It wasn't like people were going to actually look at and judge the arrangements anyway, were they?

Ember began to pick at some of the flowers that were options. No blues--her hair was already pretty blue, and she wanted MORE colors. She wanted lots of Pinks and GREEEENS. But it was hard to find...GREEEN flowers, wasn't it? Maybe some whites--OH AND REDS?! Ember was flailing--

"Oh? I see-it IS fun--I LOVE IT SO MUCH." And to think Ember hadn't known if the ministry was the place for her--SHE LOVED IT. She had a few other better-paying options, too--but something about the ministry had just DRAWN her in! Hehehe.

OH OH! Ember HAD heard of that--"Actually--yes--" she said with a nod. "I read about it in an article a few years back--at Uni--" she thought for a moment. "I'm very--I like having my headspace positive at all most times. Gardening was on the list--meditation, yoga, spiritual cleansing--" she said as she watched Harmony's hands, trying to see if she had started making a crown yet..."Great idea--" she said as she began to braid a few of them together--a white, red, and pink one--she needed a PURPLE, too! HEH.

She saw a bloke[RUSTY] who looked very confused--and she shot a look at Harmony before stepping towards him. "HELLO THERE!" she said with a VERY big wave and smile. "Do you need help?! I can help!" she said very...energetically. She was practically bouncing, too. She was bouncing. A lot. Her headpeice was jangling as she did, too, and continued braiding her flowers. HEH.

AND ANOTHER CONFUSED PERSON?!?! Ember watched this woman[BHUVANA], too, and BEAMED at her. "HI THERE!" she waved. "Do you need help too, ma'am?!" she WAS SO INTO HELPING. She wanted to help! "You look lovely, by the way--" and she touched the woman's hair, not thinking about how some people were WEIRD about being touched.

As Alex had made her way after the other two towards the flowering arranging area, she caught a glimpse of a girl wobbling in heels and was half tempted to go back and help her but then noticed her receiving help from someone else. Probably best to just let her stumble on her own; that's how one learned, yes?

So many flowers! It actually made Alex smile quite a bit being here and she was pretty sure that Emmalee felt the same; she nearly missed Daphne's responses about the Ministry and where she worked. "Ah, so we'll practically be neighbors! Creatures and Environment Departments work together quite a bit; we share a break room and conference room even, but of course we have our own specialized work areas. But yes, orientation every year for those new employees - a sort of fresh start to the new year." Alex nodded, picking through the flowers as she glanced over at Emmalee.

"Clematis. Definitely. Daisies are too common." Besides, that purple was super pretty. So Daphne was the mother of two - ten years apart? Which meant, she was probably around her age and that just made Alex slightly self-conscious, for about a minute. "Boys or girls?" she asked casually. "Do you have photos?" Mothers always carried photographs of their children, didn't they?

"I'm definitely going for some of these" Alex said aloud, as she selected a few of the golden pagodas

There was something odd about level 4 employees and it didn't even matter which department they were from. Not that it was any skin off Rusty's nose, just an observation. He couldn't help smiling a little bit though.

"Is it that obvious? I have no idea how to... bouquet." He sort of gestured at it all. Helplessly. This was a bad idea. Merlin.

"I dated a guy in University who ended up working with dragons," she said as she separated the flower stems. "He, uh, got a little too close a few years ago and.." Emmalee dragged a finger across her throat. A moment passed, and it occurred to her that it was probably not the most sensitive thing to say to the new woman.

Dropping the flowers, Emmalee turned, her expression obviously apologetic. "That.. was insensitive? I only meant to say that you must be very good at what you do to be able to restrain a loose one like that and, uh, still have all your pieces."

Pursing her lips, because THAT hadn't come out any better, really, Emmalee turned back to her flowers. Daphne suggested daises, Alex selected clematis, Emmalee had also pulled over some moly - though she was skeptical of putting something she considered rather valuable in a bouquet that Charley would clearly knock over that night. Setting the moly aside to at least grab a stalk to store away, she selected an assortment of both daisies and clematis to bundle with the stargazers.

She looked over at the other women and smiled as Daphne discussed her children and Alex followed up. She'd just be over here, adding some decorative greens, not putting her foot in her mouth.

Mention of Emmalee and Alex!

Jasmine was just exploring the Garden party and came over to the floral arrangements. She was hoping to see some familiar faces and soon enough she saw Alex and Emmalee. She smiled and thought to go see her old friends. She tapped Alex on the shoulder and greeted her with, "Hey girl long time no see.." with a simple hug. Then after the hugging happened she noticed Emmalee was there. She smiled and remember working with her. She nodded towards her and said, "Hello Emmalee nice to see you again." Using her proper manners her mother only taught her so well.

Willyyyyy.

Well, this was very... floral. A nice change of scenery than the slightly dull surroundings of the building they worked in. Props to the department heads for being creative, January thought as she wandered through the gardens, sipping on her drink.

Vic was around somewhere, she was sure. She had spotted Willy earlier, but he had been talking to a woman she didn't recognize, so she decided not to bother him. Now she was nosing in the flowers, contemplating setting up a bouquet of her own to take home, or maybe spruce up her desk at work...

So the flowers were free for the taking and arranging, but not the food? What about the edible arrangements that had been shaped to look like flowers? Could they take those home?

N'aww Willy wasn't even hungry anymore. He'd filled up on food and conversation already but here he was, still at this event because he'd thought he'd seen a certain redhead walk this way.... Sure enough, January was among the flowers.

"I think it's all a big publicity stunt set up by DERP," he commented quietly, following her down a row of flowers. He didn't know what they were. "Who throws a garden party in....shoot, I forget, what month is it again?" Speaking of.... hehe. Geddit?
