He'd tell him he was only up for a glass of water if he should ask what he was doing out of his workstation, but actually he felt like caffeine would've been more useful. He'd recently discovered a disquieting drawing in his prophecy journal which made it difficult to sleep at night, and he was unwilling to take sleep-aiding potions.

Jasper poked his head out of an archway and saw a lone Auror traveling. Was he...lost? Looking for someone or something? Why Mysteries? He stepped out of the archway completely revealing his quite tired-looking appearance and broke the silence, "Does Mr. Summers know you're here?". The Unspeakable's tone somewhere between curious and territorial. They had secrets to protect.
Simon was about to enter one of the deeper spindles of the web of identical corridors from the more open visitor's area when he heard movement not his own. He turned around at the question that was voiced aloud, spotting an older, tired looking man stepping out from one of the nearby blackened pathways. "No...I don't suppose he does," the auror answered truthfully. Had the leader of the department still been Izzy his former boss and Wes her husband still Law, perhaps the connection between the departments would still be as solid as the once were. But alas they were not.

"But then checking in with department heads wasn't part of the assignment...meerly investigating." Was he going to be interfered with? He had a job to do and Simon wasn't sure having to get permission from everyone he passed along the way was going to make things any easier. Besides...at this point anyone could be in suspicion.

A little bell somewhere in the back of Jasper's mind went off when the Auror had told him that he hadn't been granted permission from Mr. Summers'. Such little bells often went off in Jasper's mind, nearly as often as he ignored them. This was about to be one of those times that he ignored them. For there was, directly in front of him, one of those legendary purveyors of magical justice known as The Auror. And the elder wizard remembered a time when he had gotten to work alongside them. It made him feel like a hero. Happy times they were then.

It was really too bad he'd signed a confidentiality contract, the one with the clause about ...oh yes, imminent danger. "Maybe I can be of some assistance. Would you say that your investigation prevents or may aid in the prevention of a situation which carries the potential to do the most harm or lead to imminent danger, Mr....?"

Simon watched carefully to see what type of reaction he might have chance to get for his response. There was the hauling him off to the new level 9 department head...the insisting he leave or the giving into his presence in the area of the ministry as secure or even more secure than Law enforcement's areas themselves. At least in the case of its employees keeping secrets. The conversations between Josh and Evelyn about their respective days had to be quite interesting.

"Bennett," he supplied as the older man broke off after the title he had been given. "And it would possibly lead to preventing a situation that endangers others." After all, the more time deTalone and her ilk was the more time and chances the time thief had to cause more trouble and chaos to the people of who knows where. "And I guess you may help as long as you don't cause trouble or interfere." SImon would just keep an eye on him as well...no really big deal...for now. And it would allow for another set of eyes that he didn't have with no fellow security officers to assist.

If it were that dire, Jasper reasoned the Mr. Bennett had gotten clearance from the Minister himself and that it would've over-ridden the objection of any Department Head's. So with that in mind...

"Know your way around the Department of Mysteries, Mr. Bennett? It's very easy to get lost, you know. I've done it." But hardly anymore as he'd familiarized himself with the in's and out's of Mysteries since he'd started working there. Mr. Bennett's comment sealed the suspicion that what he'd come there to do was of the utmost weightiness. And, it further fortified Jasper's intention to be only of use.

"What exactly are you hoping to investigate?" The seer asked, more curiously than guarded.

So far so good, there was neither negative nor overly positive remarks sent his way. Just simple questions that seemed harmless enough. "Well its not the first time I've had to go on a search within its depths and made it out alive," he mused, thinking again of the previous incident. And while it was bound to be known more by an actual employee of the level, that didn't ensure it was hopeless for anyone else...right?

At the man's final question Simon was caught on what to say exactly. No doubt the news was spread by word of mouth and the Daily Prophet by now so it was not entirely a secret. "Anything that can assist in more awareness on deTalone's disappearance, Mr...." the auror finally remarked. "Level 10 was since been cleared and now is the matter to work the way up. "

Or down in this matter.

"Oh? You look quite young, Mr. Bennett. What did you do while you were in the Department of Mysteries, if you don't mind me asking? And, it's Mitterbill. Jasper Mitterbill." His smile was a little on the worn side, but nonetheless sincere and he started slowly down the corridor. Just because they were exchanging information did not mean that they couldn't put a little road behind them. Time was essential, afterall. Never more so than in a case like this.

"Yes." Jasper answered Mr. Bennett almost disbelieving. "I've heard about that. Read about it in the Prophet as a matter of fact. She sounds incredibly unstable." And for Jasper Mitterbill to say that about anyone, really, this chick HAD to be out-her-mind. "Dangerous, really. I'm afraid of her." He shamelessly admitted. Briefly, when the case first broke he thought he could understand where she was coming from. We could all use a little more time, even if she went about it the wrong way. But then he'd heard about the victims. That poor Hollingberry girl in particular. Her life would NEVER be the same and it was all because that de Talone witch took something from her that could never have been recovered. "But, not so afraid that I would idle whilst she did more harm. How did she even come by getting a portkey to work inside the courtrooms? I thought they were meant to be secure against such methods of exits and entries? Could she have used her...I hesitate to use the word, but talents... of time taking to have stolen just the right moment when the protective spells would've went up that morning?" Curious, curious, curious. Jasper could feel his mind starting to race and wander about the possibilities. He was not really a practical wizard, but he could be very creative.

The young comment gained a slightly raised eyebrow in response. Granted his next birthday only marked the first quarter century of his life but Simon didn't consider that 'quite young'. "A rather innocent training search a few years ago, interestingly enough, started much like this. Heading out from the courtrooms and going level by level on." He hoped the unspeakable hadn't thought that it had been anything more significant including working on Level 9 himself and not just knowing of people who did.

"Simon..." he added, rebooting his movements as he supplied his first name since Mitterbill...Jasper had given his in exchange. He himself wouldn't be quick to forget his companion's name as it was his brother's. He nodded as he walked and listened to the older man speak about what he had heard, making himself aware of what Jasper might not have been privy too. His ears on his companion and his eyes aware of his surroundings splitting his attention to complete his task and the assisting conversation as well.

"Fortunately neither of us are in the greatest danger from her, for she much prefers school kids as her ultimate targets." The ones who were innocent and less likely to keep themselves safe from the likes of deTalone. "And that's one of the mysteries we're looking into. All of it points to having inside help but no one yet has stood out as a possibility. Not with the added measures already put into place. " The morning routine had changed since the wand weighers were checking wands for added traces. At least it made the auror sure Jasper had passed suspicion.

"That's despicable. That's despicable!" It was despicable. Clearly, Jasper thought so as he took in Simon's point about kids being the ultimate target of de Talone. It wasn't the first time he was privy to evil, but it nonetheless disturbed him.

Jasper listened very carefully to what Simon (was that his last name or his first name?) had been telling him. And inside job? The thought amplified her capacity for evil in Jasper's mind as he pictured de Talone to be quite appealing physically and able to seduce anyone at all. Would she have needed to resort to using her feminine wiles? What if she...

"Could she have used unforgivable magic? Perhaps, that's why no one is standing out?" He didn't really think about what he had said, but he hoped it had made sense. Wizards least likely to commit atrocities were quite capable of doing so if under the Imperius curse.

Yes, de Talone was indeed quite a scary witch. And Jasper wanted very much to see her locked away where she couldn't hurt another man, woman or child for the rest of her days. He'd be willing to do just about anything to see this outcome.

Midstep Jasper froze, a thought having occurred to him. "Simon, what did you mean about added measures being put into place?"

Simon had to agree there, it was despicable. Crime was bad to begin with but when it was done upon certain groups like children and perhaps the elderly or disabled, then it had an even deeper hit to the gut. It didn't help either when it effected people he had been close to like Kurumi and Vindictus.

"Possibly..." he answered not entirely denying it as an option. "But not likely unless she's extremely good with wandless magic since she's been without a wand since her imprisonment." It did make the auror try to remember if her lawyer was allowed his when they were together. But that lead to dangerous territory since it made Simon think the possible imperioed person was law enforcement since they would have been the ones around.

"Edgeworth could have..." he mused aloud, trying to put the idea into the path of possibility. He of course was unavailable to see what his wand had dealt with. "Though it would still show up in any checks because whoever it was created unauthorized portkeys which leaves a trail in the magic." That would have been an peculiar case...getting a red flag and the person having no clue, even doublechecking with legitmacy or veritserum, that it had been done.

And all law had been cleared. Hadn't they?

Jasper stopped in place and Simon reacted to lack of presence beside him and stopped himself a couple of steps ahead. "The additional scans being run during the wand weighing procedure each day," he said as he turned around, wondering if perhaps the other man hadn't registered the additional time taken. Or they weren't being done all the time because he had been aware regardless of prior knowledge. "The best way to assure those coming to the ministry haven't completed the spells needed to assist deTalone with the portkeys. Though those in Transportation are tricky of course."

The older wizards face seemed to almost blush as he realized that the wand weighing procedures hadn't been standard. "Oh. I'm sorry, I hadn't realized that they were being done on her account. I'm new to the Ministry." True, it hadn't been a constant, but it was enough the Jasper had thought it might have been a precaution on behalf of having hired so many new people, any number of which could've been a potential vessel for seedy infiltration. Especially within Simon's own department, he imagined.

"Only just started, but I am not new to my line of work and I think I have found something recently which may be of use to this particular case. Would you like to see it, Simon?" He said unsure of whether or not to use the man's first or last name.

Simon could see that the other man was ashamed for not registering the change in proceedure and the auror waved off the appology. "No need. I guess I've gotten so used to things myself that I forget sometimes that not everyone has." He noticed the occasional new face around the ministry as due course and he supposed it might become more common given his new joint position since they dealt more with each individual within the walls. But the most noticable were within his own department. Those he would likely have to work with at one point or another and be welcoming in anyway he could.

The auror perked up upon hearing what Jasper had to say further. He had found something that may be of use? "Certainly," he said not about to turn down a possible lead. "Anything that could possibly help would be of interest."

Jasper was a little more than surprised to see what he interpreted as an eagerness, or even more-than-vague interest in the prophecy. That man he'd run into in the Atrium with the ginger witch, Ludovicus Bones, had a reaction Jasper thought might be typical of the Law Enforcement department. That was to say rather hard-nosed. So when Simon perked up at Jasper's offer to show him something it caught the seer by surprise. There again, Jasper hadn't mentioned that it was a prophecy. Better do that now. "It is a prophecy. And I'm afraid a vague one at best. But if there is even the remotest possibility that it might be useful in this case, I'd consider it my duty to show it to you."

"Wait here a moment, Simon while I go and fetch it." Quickly, he dismissed himself practically disappearing into the severe darkness of one the corridor's many archways. A moment later, he was back and he had a small parchment card in his hand which he was handing over to Simon.

SPOILER!!: Mysterious Lil Prophecy

A bird of prey, under the cover of darkness, she belies the ages.

Faster than an owl's hand, yet of an owl's hand. She has gone.

Until one who is one with the enemy of time seeks her out.

"I consider myself quite experienced at deciphering these things, but this one has proven extremely difficult. It was however found amongst others concerning de Talone and so I believe it to be also concerning her." He explained before clearing his throat.

SPOILER!!: Jasper

Okay so perhaps Simon should have expected it. The fact that the information he was being offered was in fact a prophecy. He was standing in the middle of a hallway in the middle of the Department of Mysteries which was quite known for its secrets and such. Including prophecies. But he had not fully limited the possibilities to that genre of thinking. Not that it made the possible clues any less reputable to the auror. On the contrary he was well aware that seers could be entirely trustworthy and useful. The history was there not to mention he himself knew at least one that he wouldn't doubt.

About to comment and assure Jasper that it was alright with him, Simon was silenced as the unspeakable went and excused himself to retrieve it. The auror was left to simply nod in acceptance as he was once more left alone in the darkened stone corridor. It wasn't long however before the older man returned to his side with a parchment in hand that was obviously what he was being offered.

One prophecy...however vague.

He accepted it while listening intently as Jasper explained about his dealings with the field and Simon wasn't about to challenge it. The words made no sense to him either though he wasn't the ones trained in deciphering the things. Criminal codes...maybe...but not this. " Well she's certainly something that seeks out prey. And deals with time or ages." he mused, trying to compare with what he was reading and what he himself knew about the case.

"Wait...others pertaining to deTalone?" he added with slightly raised eyebrow turning back to Jasper.

Jasper inhaled, and words were meant to come out upon the exhale, however all that manifested were a few breathy sounds that mimicked vowel noises here and again. He did this when he was nervous, which was often. He had said others, hadn't he? Damn. He hadn't meant to give away all of that, but it seemed to come quite naturally in speaking to the Auror. Sharing a printed copy of one prophecy that might help spare magical children a truly awful fate was one thing. Opening the flood gates to a wealth of other related and secure information was quite another.

But, perhaps they had been previously shared with Law Enforcement? It was before Jasper's time. He had simply been checking over their relevance. And, of course there was also the possibility that they would prove useful. They were quite old and, "Most of the information found in them seems to have already come to pass. But, if you'd like to see them, I can of course create copies of them as I did this one." The words finally came and he indicated the Ng prophecy which Simon now held in his hand. "And like this one they seem vague. At first. Very symbolically rich. Nearly all of Didi Ng's prophecies are like that I'm afraid. It makes them a bit tricky to interpret, but the line about the ages...that's probably why it was thought to be about de Talone."

Judging by the change in the level of comfortableness in the corridor and his companion's seemingly inability to respond right away, Simon might just be pushing his luck. And the auror was one who was well aware of the need for some semblance of protocol at times. Unspeakables were called that for a reason as their tasks were often not something shared much outside the department. Maybe it wasn't something he really needed to know especially when the other prophecies had already been met...or so Jasper said. They weren't important at this point in time.

"No...that's fine," he said making the decision about them. "If anything further is needed I'm sure Miss Browne could speak with Mr. Summers to inquire about it." AKA if what was deciphered proved to need what came before the department heads could argue over the details of sharing the information and neither employee had to betray their own area's rules. "But it does make things rather interesting." Simon was already sure he was going to be delving further into the woman's file when he had the chance back at the office.

Maybe just maybe there was something he had missed himself.

With one final quick glance at the prophecy in his hold, Simon folded it carefully and placed it within a secure inner pocket. "And perhaps I've taken up enough of your time."

"A good course of action." Jasper agreed and smiled realizing he must have given himself away with his uncertainty about sharing the rest of the information.
"Not at all, Simon." It had been overall exciting for Jasper and a recluse his age didn't get very many chances at that. Thus, when he would reflect upon this moment later on in his life it would be with genuine favour. "Although, maybe I have yours. It playing such an important role in this case." He turned to walk the Auror at least part of the way out of the long, dark corridor and when they reached the end of it, the seer said one last thing, "Best of luck! I really hope your efforts lead to her capture." Targeted prey or not, he still found de Talone frightening and would've rested better knowing she were well and put away.

They were in agreement with the best course of action and that put some of the pressure at ease. No point in burning any bridges which was critical when there was a chance further assistance might be needed at one moment or another. If not this case...certainly at some time down the line. And given that they had pretty much traversed the entirety of the area of Level 9 that weren't locked up tight, the job was complete regardless of them taking too much of each other's time or not. Simon followed Jasper back the way the lobby was, taking the older man's word for the direction they were to be going.

"Thank you Jasper," he returned with a nod at the wish of luck and for his assistance as well. They needed all they could get with the happenings and the scrutiny the department was under. The pressure to fix their misdeeds that let deTalone get away. "Good day," the auror finished, taking his leave with the level now complete, heading back to the lifts to continue his journey back.

Hope no one planned to go to work today in the Department of Mysteries. One of the most heavily protected areas in the building, Level 9 typically only allows those with sufficient permission access to the chambers beyond the entrance. Today, however, the protection spells seem to be misfiring. The door doesn't appear, and when it finally does, it leads to wrong rooms and long hallways that bring you right back to the entrance.

Ashby usually flooed into work, but today he wanted to check some things out, so was actually needing to come in through the main entrance. Carrying his brief case Ashby hummed to himself, heading down the corridor. He frowned though staring at the wall where the entrance should have been. Now... that was very odd.

When in merlin's beard was the door?

It started with a small patient chuckle at what Jasper perceived as his own forgetfulness. But after multiple attempts to find the proper entrance door, it had worked it's way into a paranoid sort of breathy laugh. Great Circe! He was going to be late!

He knew deep, down inside that he knew where he was going, but the reality of the situation seemed to crush this notion for him. He stood there for a moment, trying to think of exactly where he'd gone wrong. When nothing manifested, he tried again and it felt like forever before Jasper, having sat down in the hopes that someone would find him, had finally found the door. Oh, thank Merlin! Though, he would still likely have to explain himself to Mr. Summers.

Jasper passed through the door. Just as he was about to feel dismay at seeing that he was right back where he'd started, his hope caught him in a strangle hold by the sound of someone's echo-phoniqued foot steps up ahead. Oh, thank Merlin! Another Unspeakable! The sinking feeling that this was going to be one of those days began to set in as Jasper realized it was none other than the Department Head. And he would probably want an explanation as to why Jasper was late sooner rather than later.

"Mr. Summers?" He called to his boss. "I can explain everything!" But he couldn't, really. He just thought it sounded better than not trying to explain the unexplainable, even to another Unspeakable. Hehehee. Ravenclaws.

Ahh. Someone else was here. Ashby still wasn't able to get into the department. That was kind of annoying. As if he didn't have enough work that he needed to do. He was almost tempted to go home, and floo in. But that would be kind of anti productive.

Okay. He turned around, and nodded at Jasper. He could explain? "You can...explain why the door isn't appearing?" Because if he could then Ashby would be rather surprised.

He had taken a few nervous breaths before he had tried to speak. When words at last did form, they went something like this...

"Yes, well you see I had actually planned on arriving early, but...Wait...wot?!" Jasper stopped his over-eager blurting, and lucky for him it was before he'd gone and said too much, in order to stand there and look a gargantuan amount of puzzled. So convinced of his tendency toward folly that Jasper hadn't considered that this fluid and instantaneous labyrinth could be happening to others in his department. At least, not until Mr. Summers had mentioned it.

Part of him was thanking Merlin that he was not the last one in, but the other half slowly began to fret at the surmounting workload that would slowly accumulate in the mean-whiled downtime. "Oh. I thought you might've been wondering why I hadn't yet reported to work. The door did appear for me after some time, Mr. Summers, but it won't take you where you want to go. It brought me back here, which is where I started." Jasper thought about what he'd just said and wondered if he could've chosen other words in which to say it all. He came to a firm decision that no matter how he'd said it, it wouldn't have made very much more or any less sense than it was likely to now.

"Oh. Don't you worry about that." Ashby smiled at the man. He could hardly tell one of his employees off when he wasn't even able to get into the department himself. It was kind of annoying. He was a very busy man. So not getting into his department was rather annoying. He frowned, feeling half tempted to kick the wall. But that wasn't very professional, and as a department head he really needed to act professional.

"Ahh... so seems that we are not going to get much work done today..." Which was kind of annoying. He frowned, trying to think about how they could figure this out. "I suppose we could send a memo to Maintenance to see if they can fix this."

Oh. Oh, thank Merlin! Mr. Summers was not overly cross about the matter. He looked a bit...puzzled, though. Or possibly frustrated as Jasper thought understandable given the circumstances and the fact that he was the new Department head. Things go wrong and people are sometimes tempted to blame others even when they are not to blame. They just want to direct their emotions during such times.

When the door at last did appear, Jasper found his way into it.
