Mum wouldn't be happy if all Vashti brought home was candy.
It wasn't until she got closer to the gumball machines that she realized something was wrong. Gumballs were rolling everywhere on the ground and there was a boy - maybe a year or two older than her - who was trying to stifle the flow of gumballs in various, unsuccessful ways. Both eyebrows raised in surprise, she rushed over, pulling out her wand; not really for any reason, it was just a reflex reaction, something she was used to doing. No spell came to mind that would stop the falling gumballs.
"What on earth happened?!" she asked the boy, trying to use her hand to cover the opening and prevent any more gumballs from falling. It was working - for the moment.
There really were quite a few disadvanages to not being able to hear. Number one, the eyes were the most dependable resources, but most people only had 2 of those...and they couldn't really focus on everything at once.
Of course, Ani usually watched the ground, in case of tripping, but this time, this
one time, he had to have gone and changed his tactics, staring straight ahead of him instead. It would have been more beneficial to watch the ground. A LOT more beneficial...
Maybe then he would have noticed all the gumballs, and he wouldn't have landed on his back, staring up at a girl around his age and a boy maybe a few years older.
"Bloody hell." Wonderful, just wonderful.
