That was all. "Yes, we are all important. As are our views and opinions. Each of us can look at a certain point in history and view it slightly different than the next person." Quote:

Trix didn't exactly get what the professor was asking really. Did she mean choose a battle from where SHE lived? So a battle in Powys, or maybe Wales. There were a few of them, but it didn't exactly differ her opinion on anything. Trixie was born in Wales originally, the house she currently lives in. However her family had two homes whilst her father was playing Quidditch out in America, so her and her mother were back and forth between Wales and America until they moved permanently back to Wales, so to think of anything that effected her view would be kinda difficult.
But she had a question. "Professor? Are we focusing specifically on Wizarding battles or Muggle ones as well?" she asked. "I'm pretty certain there hasn't been a wizarding battle where I come from...." she stated. She could talk about one battle quite near her however. Quote:

Hmm. Battles that would affect your view because of where you came from? Iris raised her hand again, "Um..." In actual fact, Iris didn't know much about Wizarding Battles... "The world wars? Maybe..." Okay... they were Muggle.. and a LOT of battles as opposed to just one battle... but SURELY the Wizards had something to do with those, too?
Because... after all, if you were from England, you're views on the war both DURING the war and after would be WAAAY different to the views of ... like... the Russians. Possibly. Iris was just going to stop thinking. She was confusing herself. Quote:

"The battle of Hastings........?" She asked, elongating out her words. Eh, she wasn't 100% sure on her answer. And it didn't really matter if it WAS a muggle battle, it was still from where she came from, so it should be right, right? Quote:

History is history. But keep in mind, some battles fought in the muggle world share similaries with battles in the wizarding wars." she smiled. So many good examples and questions, she liked this bunch of students. Quote:

Neptune couldn't decide which side of her desk best suited her name card. So she spent a good while not paying any attention and rearranging her things. She finally settled for front and center, with herself slightly posed to it's right.
Now she could answer. Ahem. She raised her hand, "It's more important to know where famous people are from. People really care about that sort of thing. You know, for memoirs, biographies, museums," Neptune waved her hand carelessly around, "But I suppose on a smaller, more peasant level, it can be important, too. People that are born in dumb places, probably have to grow up to be dumb. Sad, really. For them, anyway." Not for HER, obviously. "Your origin is the starting line for your personal history."
Again, Neptune raised her hand, "Me and the Hunchback battle all the time at home. That directly affects how much Mother grounds me. Or how many pairs of shoes she lets me get. Or which dinners I get to attend. So, obviously, I view Hunchback battles as black marks on my life, but necessary marks." The Hunchback, Ola Bott, just NEEDED to be battled with sometimes. Blinking a bit, she listened to what Miss Bott was saying and nodded. "That is an interesting view, Miss Bott. Yes, famous people tend to be remembered and known, but even those that aren't famous can play a role in history as well. Think of it as a puzzle. Yes, you have the centre where all the pieces fit together and made the picture that you need, but you still have the pieces around it that play their part to make the puzzle whole. As you mentioned, you consider these battles a dark mark, but necessary." Quote:

If there were she sure as heck didn't know about them. "There is no need to think of an actual battle that has happened where you live," she smiled as she addressed the Head Girl. "You can think of any battle in general that could be view differently due to the location you are in. I recall someone mentioning the world wars." Quote:

O______o "I don't know of any Wizarding Wars in Dublin, but I think theoretically, if your regional history does have a war involved, it can change your opinion on whoever the war was against." She said, whilst raising her hand. Yeah, that didn't make much sense, but whatever. "That is a very good point as well, Miss O'Reilly. Those that have events like wars and battles are bound to view other similar events in the same light, when those that have no history in it view it in a different light." Quote:

It is said that those that don't know history are bound to repeat it. But then again, history does teach us the mistakes we are going to make again." Quote:

Rex raised his hand again. " Well, This is not exactly from whare I was born, but there was defiinitely a battle here " Rex told the Professor. In Texas, it was "The Alamo" Rex said to the Professor. "Another battle was between brothers and occurred in the United States and it was called "The Cvil War" Rex explained to the professor. " My family fought on the South " Rex told the professor. " The other side had been the North" Rex said to the professor. "Would you like to tell me why these
battles were fought?" Rex asked the professor. "Those are good examples as well. Brother against brother. That was a rather important turning point in the history of America was it not?" Blinking a bit, she raised an brow at the Gryffindor. Was he asking her, the professor to tell him about why such a battle was fought? Wasn't she the professor here. Shaking her head, she looked back to the boy and nodded. "Many would say the Civil War was fought over rights of one side over the other, but we are not here to speak of that history. Perhaps another lesson." Quote:

"Right, i don't know if there were any battles from where I am." she muttered, staring down at her name tag. "Though...I don't know. I think there was a muggle one. Like, the Germans invaded or something." Then again, she could be wrong. She should probably look up more history about where she was from. On the other hand though, that was like a million years ago! Why would she be effected by the battle? More importantly, why be effected by a muggle battle she knew nothing about?
Yeaa. "Yes, Miss Flores-Shepard. That is a good example as well. Do keep that battle in mind, for we will come back to that in another lesson." Quote:

"I know one battle that happened in here, with the survivor of the killing curse. As for the muggles' battle I believe there were many." She stopped. It's the first one most likely, we are in History of Magic for heaven's sake. Heehee. "Yes, Miss Carter. I do believe we will get back to the battle you are thinking of shortly. Yes, there are many muggle battles we could think of, but do keep them in mind as well for other lesson." Quote:

Glancing back to the map behind her, she pointed her wand at the bulk of the blue point. "Now, given that a majority of us are from the same region, we are all taught the same history. But as individuals, we are bound to understand them differently. For starters, let's talk about the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. Any thoughts?" |
