Preston paused, considering how he could explain without too much lecture. "Because the Pygmy Puff was a transfigured creature, and not an actual one, it ceases to be. Your cupcake, while transfigured, retained some of it's cupcake-ness, so it was able to turn back. Nothing of the Pygmy Puff remains, except for the raw material used to create it."
Terribly vague, to be sure, Preston thought, though as good an answer as he could manage without a lecture. Quote:

After a few moments of dissapointment for the goblet not changing she looked down and then she looked back up to see her goblet slowly shrinking and transforming into a thimble..... "OH MERLIN!!!!! YOU'VE GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!!!" Rae really did it!!! Wow she was incredibly loud, hopefully no one heard that.... But now she couldn't supress that wide smile from her. His attention being captured by a loud voice, Preston raised an eyebrow. "Miss Quirregen! I appreciate your enthusiasm, but please, watch your volume. The concentration of your fellow students is key in this exercise." Preston paused, before softening. "But good work." Quote:

BREATHEEE. Reverto.
What did she have, now? One kitty!paw, one lion!paw -- and a tail that wasn't plastic. Gold frowned, and tried again. Concentrate, Shiny!Brain. Concentrate. On tiinyyy, plastic paws. A tail, yes, but one that was a bright yellow, and could not, for the life of it, wag itself that way. Gold focused on it, focused on it a HEAP, and gave the spell another shot -- Reverto!
The toy lion was back. No kitty!paws, no wriggly tail. Gold beamed at it, petted its head, and looked around for Professor Kingsley.
She was happy. Preston nodded at the Prefect from across the room. Quote:

"Sir, I am ready to have my things transfigured." He smiled at the Professor. Ah! Walking over, Preston gave the sandals a quick tap, changing one into a small boat. "We're only working on this a little longer, but don't worry if you can't manage." Quote:

It will become easier with practice. Eventually, a single reverto will do the job." Quote:

Okay, that wasn't what she expected. Shaking her head, she raised her wand again and focused a little bit more. Again, she tapped the pearls and swirled. Reverto!
This time half of the pearls were replaced with the silver links. It was a step in the right direction at least. She just needed to focus a bit more, she knew it.
Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes and thought of just how her bracelet once looked and kept that vision in her head. Opening her eyes, she exhaled and gave the pearls another tap and swirl. "Reverto!"
Now the bracelet looked like it had before. But was it exactly the same a before. Picking it up, she held it in her palm. It felt the same but she sensed it wasn't truly back to its original state. Preston continued his walk, taking note of the students' work. Quote:

Giving her a light smile, he turned back to his work. With a tap, the quill became a serving spoon. Quote:

Right, she didn't focus on the .. ehh what did the professor call them. The parameters of the change? or characteristics of it. Okay, she recalled the image of the button with her mind and tried again, swishing the wand with her hand she said "R-e-v-e-r-t-o" again and and and and it changed!! Into a smaller squishy ball? She raised a brow then squeeled! She made magic with her wand!!! It worked!! And and she made it turn into something else. Getting more excited she tried again in hopes of getting it right. "Keep at it," Professor Kingsley said encouraging as he continuedby. Quote:

He'd learned the unstrafiguring charm before but didn't perform it nonverbally so he was a bit doubtful whether he would do good in casting the spell without actually uttering its incantation. But yeah, he'd try to do the spell in the way Professor Kingley's wanted them to do and even he fails, he'd try again... and again. 'Cause that's what badgers are, they're supposed to be hardworking yet intelligent and significantly competent against the other houses. And he didn't have a question... yet.
He put out his 'valuable' item. It was a cupcake and it wasn't really valuable at all, like seriously, so he needn't worry if he make a mistake while casting it on the cupcake. And the cupcake didn't taste good at all, it had been mixed, prepared, and baked terribly by a terrible chef: Cedric himself.
He jotted down on a parchment regarding 'bout the cupcake. He hoped that the information he'd given in the parchment was rather good enough.
He started studying the cupcake curiously, thinking about its natural ingredients and such. And then he thought about flour... flour... interesting.
Cedric raised his hand reluctantly, a bit undecided whether he really had to ask his professor about the thing that bothered him a little. "Sir, what if you were to turn or well, transform my cupcake into a flour, how could I retrieve its original form? Knowing that I have to keep in mind or concentrate about the countless, probably thousands of bits of flour while doing the untransfiguring spell, I think I'll have a hard time retrieving its natural look." That truly did bother him, yes. And he'd like to know the answer, of course. Preston stopped to consider the boy's question. Another cupcake? And... flour? "A good question. I am going to use another example, because flour could be the result if you used reverto, emphasis on the VER, now to change it to a former state, instead of reverto, emphasis on the TO."
Preston picked up the cupcake. "If I were to transfigure this cupcake into, say, 15 puzzle pieces, yes, you would have to concentrate on those individual pieces changing back into the cupcake. But, because the cupcake never really goes away entirely-- the spell would wear off and the puzzle pieces return to a cupcake -- the pieces, remember, for lack of a better term, what happened to them, which aids in your untransfiguration."
Placing the cupcake down, he tapped it. A pile of puzzle pieces. Quote:

Spacial thinking was one of Cadence's worst learning styles, but she would have to try, wouldn't she. Looking at the giant friendship bracelet and trying to picture it smaller and actually, ya know, bracelet sized. She gave her wand a flourish and thought, "Reverto!"
The width of the bracelet shrunk to the right size, but it was still far too long. Cadence let out an exasperated sigh, feeling very near the point of giving up. This was supposed to be easy for her. Making his way back over to Miss Ballard, Preston touched the scarf/bracelet lightly. "You're making good progress. Nonverbals take a tremendous amount of concentration, but your handling of the snake before demonstrates that you are capable of this spell. You know what to do. Just keep at it." Quote:

Ehgad gasped and picked up the pieces. No trace of the drumstick was left, but boy was this different.
He didn't care that much though, he placed the quill on his desk. He overlapped the broken pieces so it didn't look broken and was pleased. He smiled and leaned back. "That was easy. I must be a genius or something." He boasted to some nearby students.
He leaned so far back in his chair that his chair tipped and Bang he crashed his head into the corner of the room. "Geeeeeeez!" He stood up, "That wall tried to pull me in!" Rubbing his head and pouting once more, he blinked his eyes to hide the tears of pain welling in his dark eyes. :: Preston turned to face the commotion in the back, with a bit of an exasperated sigh. "All feet on the floor, Mister Jarvey! Yours and the chairs."
ooc: in approx. 2 1/2 hours, we'll be moving on to another spell.
