"Ok," Preston said clapping his hands together and looking across the classroom. "If you are unsure about your item, allow me to clarify. I was mostly speaking to things that appear to be heirlooms, expensive jewelry, or prized possessions. Bracelets and scarves, unless you are particularly attached to them, should suffice."

He stepped away from the desk, scanning the class with his eyes. "Transfiguration is a subject, a field, that can be incredibly exciting and challenging. It is my hope that you will all come to appreciate it as I do." He stood with his hands clasped behind his back.

"I value respect. Respect yourselves. Respect each other. Respect the learning," respect the professor, "That is my number one rule."

"Putting your items aside for a moment, tell me. What do you know, or what you think you know, about how transfiguration works? Guesses are ok. Don't quote the textbook at me." He looked over the students, an eager smile on his face.
