Hermione stopped to stare at the picture of the young boy, an early photograph taken by the authoress recording her first impression of the boy as he first entered the great oak doors of Hogwarts castle.

He was a striking young man, this she could tell from the look on his face. There was no smile there. His long black hair fell over his bare shoulders, cascaded really, and his body wore the signs of someone not accustomed to an easy life. In his hair were feathers, and he wore leather pants. An American Indian* from the look of him. What tribe or from where Hermione could not tell simply by his dress, but she was curious to know.

Everything about the book Ottery had given her was fascinating. A Secret History of Hogwarts with asides and entries from some of her less than famous, or stellar or popular--and even a few infamous--former students and would be world dictators by Herodotus Prime. The book contained much information that they did not cover in Hogwarts a History, most likely because it was subversive and there had been a lot of communists in the school staff in previous years.

She closed the book, and took a sip of the tea sitting on the table next to her. Hermione wondered what the boys were up to.

The summer would be over soon, and she had heard nothing about what was going on in the magical world except for what the newspapers carried and they had been censored; she could tell as much from reading them. Voldemort had returned and now the magical world knew it and she wondered what was going to happen.

Her books were some comfort, as were Ron's and Harry's letters but ... since Snuffles death Harry had seemed more distant and well everything had changed hadn't it? The world was at war ... and she knew nothing. Nothing at all about what was going on or what part she would play in it.

*=As my girlfriend, who is part NATIVE AMERICAN quaintly pointed out, American Indian is not an approppriate word to use. It is highly incorrect and not a little unPC, hence the fact that she BOLDED IT when she typed the correction. Since it recalls terminology used by the oppressers/conquistadores/ slaughterers whatever you wish to call the invading Europeans. However, it is used here, because the story warrants it, and with no intention to offend. It is intended as irony, to show how one cannot always necessarily escape racist ways despite ones choice not to be racist. Seriously, would you consider Hermione racist? It is not the intent of the author of this story to malign anyone or propogate any racist views.
